Did you know that in the movie they used a 347-powered Mustang for all the driving scenes? The RB26-powered one didn't have enough torque, plus the 347-powered Mustang was quicker in a straight line anyways. It mentions it in the "Behind-The-Scenes" of the DVD of the movie.

No, it's an RB26DETT and it came from a Skyline GTR. The S15 Silvia had the SR20DET engine, but in the movie, the "Mona Lisa" S15 had an RB26 Swap.
I'm considering doing something like this. Not the exact same thing, but I want to find an old nova or something and try for a newer vet or camaro engine.
Guy's, look at 0:32 it says RB26 on the engine which is the engine out of a Skyline. In the movie they ripped the engine out of a wrecked S15 Silvia but that doesn't mean it's a Silvia engine. I have an S13 Silvia myself and i know that these swaps happen commonly. Btw: '67 Mustang with RB26 is my dreamcar :D (if the suspension is worked out)

IF you looked it up that S15 actually used the stock SR20 engine and not the RB26. The Mustang does use the R34 engine, but the "Mona Lisa" didn't behind the scenes.

@matthewgleason75 The engine's "only" making 370hp from a 2.6L inline 6 engine and a single turbo versus a 5L V8. That engine is good for 500hp without major mods to the engine.

People are like "OMG NOO!!" about this. I am a muscle car guy all day, everyday. BUT, like this video says, people do what is needed for the story. HOWEVER, another piece of info from this movie made me very happy: they never used the RB26-engined Mustang in the film besides the closeup shots.
They also built a Ford Racing-engined Mustang (347 I believe). And, it was quite a bit faster. They used the 347 Mustang for all driving scenes, ESPECIALLY the drifting ones, due to a ton more torque. ;D
RB26 is a 2.6L double over head cam inline six that factory original was rated at 276hp but in reality was closer to 330hp. Skyline tuner shops built 600hp motors that are reliable and some hit over 1000hp. IIRC engine in that car would be a RB26DET.
@prostreet7068 That engine is not originally from the Nissan Silvia, it's from a Skyline.
That's still like 50-70 horsepower per liter. That's roughly the same ratio as a Golf Mk1 1.1L from 1975.

In Tokyo drift, they take Hans old Silvia which had a sr20 motor in it, and dropped it into the mustang. Silvias came with a sr20. And skylines came with rb25, rb26, rb30... That isn't a skyline motor they put in the mustang. Correct me if I'm wrong

I don't really know the sound of the skyline and silvia engine, but at 0:33, it definitely says rb26.

@prostreet7068 Actually its a skyline engine. In the movie they had changed already skyline engine to the silvia. Then they put it in to the mustang.

If you understand the tuner scene then you'll know that a lot of people swap a RB25 or RB26 (with diffrent turbo setups) into a Silvia for drifting. Just like this single turbo RB26 setup

@prostreet7068 Nope, wrong, the S15 in the movie had the engine swapped with an RB26 (the Skyline engine). So the 'stang uses an RB26.
Only difference is that they switched it to a bigger SIngle turbo instead of the usual twin turbo's

NO PEOPLE THE RB26DET ENGINE ISN'T A FACTORY STANDARD ENGINE FOR THE NISSAN SILVIA S15 SPEC-R, ITS THE SR20DET.

ca18 only came in very early s13's. sr20 came in s15's and some s14's i think.

im the owner of a 1991 honda legend coupe (ka8, 3.2L) with 327.000km on the clock and a 1989 honda accord sedan (cb7, 2.2L) with 271.000km on the clock. normal service done + changed the oil every 10.000km.

yeah becouse it used to have a 390ci 2bbl v8 and that nissan v6 is turbocharged, the turbocharge part makes a huge diffrence. i'd still stick with the v8
ahhh but when they went to shoot the scenes with the 67 mustang and the 350z the actual stunt car had a v8 in it.

I can't believe how slow some of you people are. Its a rb26dett - A skyline engine.....IT IS A 6 CYLINDER. S15 Silvias never came with a 6 cylinder. They came with a SR20DET- A 4 CYLINDER. Stop saying its a Silvia engine damn it.
@Excoriar I believe it can handle 500 hp, but cannot make it without major mods and it will still have lame torque even then
@matthewgleason75 That's not one hundred percent accurate. A lot of engines would need re-inforced internals in order to pull 600 horsepower. I think you missed my point, one could drive an RB26 off the lot and as soon as they get home hook up the boost controller and it's an instant 500-600 horsepower, where are most cars would need re-inforced internals in order to handle the pressure.
@matthewgleason75 Your opposition towards six cylinder engines led me to a comparative analysis to the most comparable genre of cars. And about drivetrains, an awd will always have an advantage over rwd or fwd cars, no matter the driver's skill level. The video is about both the engine, the car it's in, and the swap, however, our discussion is about the engine, which I'll remind you, comes in a car. And by the way, I don't use my xbox. @matthewgleason75 If by price you mean picking up a four hundred dollar HKS boost controller from the local auto-parts store, plugging it into the dash, and turning the knob to 25 psi, then yes. That's the price.

The weight of the car was too much for a silvia's engine specially considering that that mustang is a '67 which had the 390 engine (about 6.3L) with an insane torque

for all the cars built including this (I believe 6 or 7) as the NISMO Mustang they used a variation of '67 and '68 Mustangs. all the other cars beside this one has 403 V8s
This car is so different. It fit perfect for the movie though. Its wierd heaving an old classic mustang sound like that, but hey it 240sx and rx-7 can have American V8s I suppose a turbocharged incline six can go in an old mustang.

Patryk Zigi no I feel you. I prefer a rx-7 with a rotary engine. That's what makes it unique to start out with. Just like I prefer American muscle with a v8.
@prostreet7068 No, it isn't. They never offered a silvia with a rb26 from the factory. It was a swap in the movie. In reality it was never built, the movie silvia's used sr20's.
well at least it makes a good drift car (sacrificing top speed for better acceliration) but its definately one of a kind (well when it was made) can't say that very often with mustangs, better than leaving it in a japanese shed to rot lol

But a V8 makes a ton more torque (usually). 300 more torque EASILY makes up for 300 more pounds. Like Enzo Ferrari once said: "Horsepower sells cars, but Torque wins races."
