    Part 1 and part 2 are one of the best videos you made on how to set your bike suspension. Because you break down ever part and explain everything. Pls make more videos like these where u go step by step on everything you set.

    Your videos are amazing. Reading the manual is good, sure.....but your videos explaining the "why" behind it all REALLY helps and I definitely feel more confident doing these adjustments.

    Followed all this today on my gsxr 600 k9 (and put the tried and tested 42psi in the back rather than the recomended 36) and it's a different bike! corner confidence is up 30%! Thanks for sharing Dave!

    Excellent these video's have really opened my eyes to the importance of the suspension settings! I will show these to my brother and dad to ensure the bikes are set up TO THEM not to the show room

    Thank you very much for your time and excellent explanations! I just bought a '13 GSX-R750 and being a newer rider, I wasn't quite aware why it was handling so odd around un-even corners and normal roads. After all of this, she's feeling fantastic.

    @rsscoyote with engine oil, you can run either a regular, "blend" of synthetic and regular or straight synthetic, all of which come pre-bottled for ease of use.
    In my race bikes I run synthetic oil. My track/teaching bike (09 R1) uses Mobil 1, and my street bike uses regular oil (Castrol).
    most important part is stay within the viscosity range recommended.

    I set sag first and don't worry about compression or rebound. I need the bike in a known ball park area of 25-35mm rear including free sag, and 30-40mm front. I'll set compression all 2 turns out for forks and shock (high and low) and let the rider ride. Their skill level will determine final compression and preload settings. Rebound can only be done when the suspension oil is hot and on that bike it is normally around 1.5 turns out for the forks and 2-2.5 out for the shock.

    @stevesvids with the BMW you need to reposition the forks to line # 2 or 3 from the top depending on your braking technique. We also do a fix for the front works for under $500 with revalve and heavier oil. The brakes are so good on that bike that the weakness of the brake dive problem is very exaggerated.

    Set sag at 35mm minimum, 5 turns out on compression and 3.5 turns out on rebound. Rear sag 30mm rider and 35mm with free sag. Set high and low speed compression at 2 turns out and rebound at 2.5 turns out. This should make a difference in over all compliance and better comfort. Don't forget to set all your ergonomics to complete the baseline. If all this was helpful, consider making a donation to the cause via my homepage at feelthetrackdotcom

    @ShamanWS6 I believe it....what's worse is that most people think their bike is setup perfectly for them because it came from the manufacturer that way. We're trying to show people that your bike has adjustment and it's okay to use it.

    forks flush with upper triples, rebound at 1.5 turns out, compression at 1-2 turns out. Shock preload at ramp #6, compression at 2 turns out, rebound at 1.5 turns out. For settings info I ask for a $20 donation via the tip jar at my home page of feelthetrackdotcom so I can keep doing this for people like yourself.

    Ok so, for preload you're looking for an exact measurement. Cool.
    Then for rebound you want to make sure the bike comes back up and doesn't bounce around. Got it.
    But then for compression, what exactly are you looking for? Can you 'feel' anything when the bike is static, or do you have to ride it and see how the bike feels during hard braking/acceleration?

    @Kyu1LL video respsonse coming via Face Book/Dave Moss. In essence if the ride is under 30 miles, yes for the forks but no for the rear shock as ti is immediately bathed in heat from the engine.

    Brian - all the settings make sense. If you run zreo preload, does the zip tie reach mechanical bottom on the forks? If so, I would work the zip tie position with preload so it is 15mm above mechanical bottom and call it good (if not, go to a softer spring). SAG is just a starting point to know where you are and then move on from there.

    Dave I've watch a lot your videos. I have a problem with my 2005 ZX-10 that it feels that the springs in front are to stiff. I weight 160lbs and tried to get the sag in the ballpark but, no luck. The springs are stock and fork oil recently changed also. 9 comp,6 reb. I went back to stock preload (14mm) for a starting point after reading a lot and from you. The rear is real close to 35mm sag,1.5 reb,3.5 comp. I hope I'm in the ballpark with my settings. Mainly a lot of twisty's and commuting.

    Dave, I have been watching many of your tutorials in suspension setting. Fantastic stuff! I notice that most of the times you are testing the bikes while the bike is free if the front chock. I’m this
    Case you tested rebound while the bike was in the chock.
    Does the chock affect the readings you are making?

    Hi Dave, I'm curious about something with this video. When you put Chris on the the bike, you said his increased weight would decrease available travel, the front dive more under brakes and the rear squat more under acceleration. I thought setting the sag for the heavier rider would decrease the travel just as much. Also, a linear spring should behave the same with regards to accelerating and braking regardless of where it is in the stroke yes? Also, I thought the rear topped out under power

    When adjusting the low stroke speed damping the manual state the two punch mark must be aligned. So does this mean every time I adjust it I'm only allowed to do 1 full turn so the marks are aligned or can make small adjustments.

    Hello Dave I did not understand and hope you can help me. In the video you went about half way in the compression in the forks but in the rear shock you only went two turns on the low speed. Was that half way or did you come up with the two turns in another way? I have a 2011 Gsxr 750 that I only ride on street canyons and freeway. If you can give me any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.

    How do soften the rear shock if the bike has dog bones on the back? In other words the rear end is lowered already. If I soften the rear the bike is just going to go farther down with me on it?

    Hello M Moss,
    What are you thoughts on lowering the front end 2-3 mm through the triple clamp for the 2008 Gsxr750? Can it improve turn in at the track? I weight 200lb and have Ktech shock and valving.

    if you do relatively short rides, should you setup for more "cold" setup like in your videos or should you always try to adjust to a fully "warmed" bike?

  • @1tokeover
    @1tokeover 10 років тому

    Dave, how did you know to turn the rebound out a half turn on the front and a full turn on the shock? What if you did a full turn on the front and a half turn on the shock? In other words, How do I know how fast to set my rebound? What if it is too fast and I don't realize it?

    • @1tokeover
      @1tokeover 10 років тому

      The service manual for the bike says 1 -3/4 turns out for rebound on the front fork and two turns out for the shock. You did a half turn out for the fork and one turn out for the shock. Why so?
