Holy smokers! Wild weather but not the end for fruitopia.Keep on keepin on. Beautiful yard you have.
Thanks 👍
you're welcome.@@RealLifeFruitopia
Flipping heck! Wow George that was a crazy storm. Sorry you lost your Ice cream bean 😢
We can do all the things in our gardens to look after our trees, but when the weather does that, we’re helpless!
Thankfully it looks must of your trees have survived 🙌🏾
I remember the storm that smashed your greenhouse Joe. I'm thankful were ok and the house wasn't damaged. Storms can happen anywhere at anytime, life moves on.
@@RealLifeFruitopia defo George, glad you and Kim are ok which is the most important thing. Everything else is secondary.
I think that your fallen Inga would still have a lot of root intact, so maybe hope is not lost. As some others have mentioned: you could always attempt to re-position the tree (maybe this would be easier if you cut off some of the trunk) and mound soil around the roots for extra stability. Stake it and anchor it with guy ropes. New shoots will eventually form woody upright trunks (think of coppicing).
I've cut it clean at around 5 feet but it's heavy as a boulder to lift, no winch or helping hands available.
I had to pull my ice cream bean back up this summer from one of our storms, they are pretty tough. Last video I thought you said Melbourne was the perfect place to live, must have jinxed yourself!
This was a once in my life event!
Oh wow, that storm was intense, George! Shame about your ice cream bean tree 😢. Hopefully, most of your other trees are ok other than that 🤞
Fortunately only a few bananas and half a persimmon tree were lost. Also, grateful that were ok and no property damage.
That was horrific George, my sympathies. That gust that blew the ice cream bean down was way over 100km/h, I'd say more like 120 to 130. I don't know if you looked back at your video but you actually filmed it falling over at about 1:30
Hopefully you can salvage some of the trunk. Those winds are very rare in your area, hopefully everything else can be saved 🤞
The highest recorded wind gust in Melbourne metro was 106km/h, so I assume something close to that hit here. I did notice the tree falling in the clip, very observant of you Brett! I've cut the trunk clean at 5 feet but it's heavy as a boulder to lift and straighten.
Yeah, I saw that. It must have been stomach-churning to witness.
Wow!! The trees with the white netting seem to be doing better in the wind. I’m surprised the wind didn’t blow the net off
The netting used is fruit fly exclusion which hugs to the tree tightly, also, the trees netted cling to anything that touches, so much that it's a pain removing at the end of the season.
It's time to play Niel Diamond- What a beautiful noise. WOW: I agree.. Regards 🇿🇦.
wow oh my gosh thats incredible. im so so sorry for your loss. maybe it will grow back from the roots?
It's out now.
Gosh that was crazy! Your poor ice cream bean tree! I saw it go over in the background when you first start talking about your tamarind tree 😢 lucky you have some backups growing in pots I think? I bet the rain was welcomed but the storms can be so destructive 😮 bugger.
I have 30 young seedlings, hesitant to plant one again.
@@RealLifeFruitopia yes I can understand why 😢 I guess now you have room to plant something else too. I hope your Jiro persimmon is ok!
Maybe Inga is naturally shallow-rooted, and your tree might have been top-heavy?
As the saying goes: take the rough with the smooth. While it is sad to lose a sizeable and multiple years-old tree, a new opportunity now arises. What could be planted in its place? How would the loss of the shading provided by the tall Inga tree affect the other plants and trees, now that they'll get more direct sun?
I have a few rescue bananas that can help shade initially. Thinking of replacing the inga with a fast growing mulberry.
Cut the ice cream bean to a size you can wench it up mound up dirt around it ..stake it water good and wait.....hopefully she lives...im in Florida we do this alot and works a good petcent of the times ..love your chanel..learned alot ..ty
I've cut it clean at around 5 feet but it's heavy as a boulder to lift, no winch or helpers available. Thanks for sharing.
Dang very crazy storm, unfortunate about the ice cream bean tree.
Looks like that soil is real wet which was the main cause of the tree falling but it seems like the wind did also catch it the wrong way, they do well with regular pruning and will actually grow more
Lesson learnt. Not planting tall trees.
Your garden looks beautiful even after a big storm
Thanks! You're seeing many years of dedicated work!
I don't think I've ever seen winds like these !
It's sad for the ice cream bean, but I feel like it could've been worse... Maybe it will resprout from the base of the tree ?
I do remember thinking watching a previous video months ago that the ice cream bean's trunk wasn't very large for such a large tree, and that it might eventually collapse... I should've commented back then
Good luck on the cleanup !
Today is a new day, got a good rest after clearing most of the damage last night. I've cut the tree clean at around 5 feet but it's heavy as a boulder to lift and straighten, no winch or helping hands available.
Holy shit! It's bad down there! Here in the Greensborough area we didn't even get much rain nor wind. I'm so so sorry for your loss. I feel a dull heartache just imagining losing a 13-year old tree.
You were spared! Grateful that were ok and no property damage.
The wind came in all directions but no much rain for the north-eastern suburbs. It didn't bring down the trees, but brought down the outdoor umbrella used to protect chickens from the sun and scared the shits out of all the chickens.
We got a ton more rain this morning! Ground is now saturated, so at least one wish came true👍
There was a guy on Fruitful Trees that was super elderly but he had mentioned how when he was younger he would put the trees back up and they always recovered, please dont give up
That guy must've had more resources. I've cut the tree clean at 5 feet but don't have a helper or a winch to pull and straighten it.
@@RealLifeFruitopia so sorry man.. im glad the tamarind is okay, I assumed that was the one that fell before I clicked. One day she will fruit
Such a shame about the ice cream bean tree have you got your power back? We are still having issues with power my way and lost water due to a huge tree coming downing and bringing up the water line aswell
We lost power for a few hours, cable internet went down too, but had mobile net, water was unaffected. I hope your power and water come back soon.
Oh no! It is so surprising because we got that 4 days ago! In Botswana Africa ( Soutern part oc Africa
Scary like the Tornado we had in Jimboomba QLD Fruiopia survived thank goodness love your garden
It was my first tornado experience, my partner saw around 50 back in her home state in the US.
did the Icecreme Bean tree retain its root system & just rip out of the ground? Maybe its worth saving?
The root system was intact, but the trunk at its lowest point was sideways, I didn't have a winch or anyones help to straighten so I cut from the roots and pulled it out completely with chainsaw.
Crikey, what a storm. But that is some awesome footage you got! Rip ice cream bean tree.
Never a boring moment in a storm.
Gosh that was CRAZY .. hope you guys are ok! 🙏💚
We were shook up, but ok now. Thanks for watching!
Oh dear. George I cannot even imagine the pain you must be in losing the ice cream bean tree😢 very sad luckily I didn’t have any damage on my trees wild weather metal sheets were flying in my area rapid rain. Tropical Melbourne cyclone ?😅guess the young tropicals must require shade clothes now. Will you plant another inga or no ?. I feel like it’s a good decision to replant and maybe prune regularly and have bungees on trunk to stakes and protect against these problems.
I was extremely lucky with past storms, so in a way there's a relief that it's over. I wish the next major storm is over 20 years away!
Last summer here in northern Italy there was a huge storm, with hail with a diameter of 7-8 centimeters. A disaster 😥
Oh no!
Ice cream bean will now be wonderful nitrogen rich mulch. Sad losing an old friend though. But now you can buy a new tree to replace it. 😀
Very true! I have a dozen contenders waiting in pots to replace it with. Decisions aren't my forte, more of a wingman.
@@RealLifeFruitopia I can relate. I have many trees to go in but I have trouble deciding where. Your garden with such high density has helped me worry less about location.
@@MsPeacelove01 I'm glad to help.
Looks like you were right in the middle of this weird downpour.
We got the winds, lights out but only a small portion of the rains.
Sad to see your beautiful ice cream bean tree down - it’s a real shame.
Perhaps plant again as you so enjoyed the fruit of this tree.
Hesitant to regrow it after this. Scary, but were ok and no property damage.
Yeah, things could’ve been worse.
Turns out a dry wattle tree hidden deep in the corner of the backyard came down last night.
It fell onto the fence and the neighbour was kind enough to cut it down for safety.
He showed me the photos of it strewn across the fence and I’ve got all the logs in a pile.
I had gone to sleep without knowing it fell over - got to check the condition of all the trees now.
It's scary to imagine these big trees falling, but mine fell quietly, glad I was filming and not in bed 🛌
In Florida we get storms like this all summer long (but no hail). They only usually last for less than 30 minutes. My bananas do just fine. Remember, bananas are from tropical regions, they are used to strong tropical storms.
It's the main reason I've been hesistant to relocate to the tropics. Never seen it this bad here.
Thats sad! Living in South Florida, I know its a matter of time until my fruit forest gets hammered
Crazy weather.hope not to much damage.here in Perth the heat is distroying our trees
I was extremely lucky with past storms until this, a lesson learnt for the future. Every city has its pluses and minuses.
That’s sad, haven’t had time to check our garden yet. Fingers crossed
I hope everything's ok with your garden.
Sorry to see this. Lucky you have still have some replacement ice cream bean trees in pots?
Hesitant to regrow one after this.
@@RealLifeFruitopia just don't let it get so tall?
Sad to see the inga down. George cut the stump and restand the Inga trunk. It should grow stronger in no time.
It's out and dusted. Might plant another.
we had an ice storm in 2021 over 10 thousand in damages over 30 trees down was such a nightmare , no electricity for 5 days, our gardens change now and then
An ice storm we'll never have, instead our area gets wild fires and strong winds.
Oh no this is such a frightening experience I pray the damage is kept to a minimum 😮
It was scary as it happened so fast. Grateful that were ok and no property damage.
Thank Goodness
Woah! Crazy storm
Once in a lifetime event, mate! If the tree was propped, it would've stood up to that wind, but we're not used to cyclones!
At least you grew plenty spare ones@@RealLifeFruitopia
Can you cut the ice cream been of at about 1,5meters and stand it up
Good idea - worth a try perhaps.
I've cut it clean at around 5 feet but it's heavy as a boulder. Will see what I can do tomorrow.
Oh no. Sorry for the damage. A lot of Asian countries have this kind of storm several times a year. That’s why they keep their fruits trees trimmed or bent short to protect from the typhoons etc. Maybe we should get bungee cords for all our fruit trees instead!😂
Good advice. Thanks.
At least now youve a lifetime supply of wood for the bbq and room to plant more trees 😅
Yes the wood will provide many uses, and mulch from the leaves.
@@RealLifeFruitopia those were some crazy winds. We havent had any storms so far in northern NZ this summer, touch wood. Unlike last summer which was non storm rain and storms.
It's like you moved to Florida.
I legit feel like I was in a FL hurricane!
holy shit
Ураган..😮
Sorry dude..
Oh noooo you are being battered
Oh deary me.! Hope you all are ok down there
WE are ok, just shook up.
