New Zealand is focusing on the well-being of its people, not just economic growth

  • In 2019 New Zealand focused public spending on improving citizens quality of life and devoting record funds to tackling poor mental health and domestic violence. As well as reducing child poverty and inequality.
    According to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, just reporting on economic growth doesn’t show the full picture. Like many countries, New Zealand uses GDP to measure the health of its economy, but it’s a limited measure of social progress. While GDP measures many things of economic value, it excludes many more. GDP is still a key measure of New Zealand’s economic success, it’s just not the only one.
