I first saw them in the Cart n Horses, then followed them to the Bridge house in Canning Town. They were friends with another group called RDB. I remember when they did a gig outside London they used to stop in Bow and pick us up in their old red transit van with the three aeroplane seats in the back. Great times and great memories.
This song used to make my spine tingle and still does. It should have been a huge success but never got enough exposure. It was much more difficult to record demos and live gigs properly then. I used to see Slowbone whenever I could, from their early days at The Royal Fort in Bermondsey, at the Greyhound, Cart & Horses and Bridge House (Roll Ups). I was in a band at the time and we were gigging as well, so I missed a lot. One Saturday they were playing in Hammersmith Odeon and we were in Hammersmith Town Hall. I remember standing with the drummer from my band, the late Clive Burr, who joined Iron Maiden, watching Slowbone each week at the Cart & Horses and going to an early gig at East Ham Town Hall, where they were supporting Skid Row, which had something to do with Thin Lizzy. The audience was really well-behaved and we were shocked when police with dogs came into the hall at the end of the show. Spoilt it. We, and many other musicians at the time really rated their playing and original music. Their cover versions were always excellent and done their own way. Memories of brilliant times and fantastic music that rocked, - Devil's Nightmare, Burning Sensation, Rat Faced Woman and the classic, Hand Shandy! I am so pleased the net has given them the exposure they should have had then!
I've heard of this band before as being a band that iron maiden used to go see play, but now listening to the band for the first time I can see how they definitely influenced madien for sure.
Every copy of Melody Maker I bought in '70's had an ad for (at least ) one of these guys gigs. FINALLY I get to hear what they sound like. Definately not dissapointed, they kick ass!
You can buy the Slowbone CD and album on line...I was sound engineer (roadie) for nearly 7 years...Line up was Barry (Lea) Hart /Keith Shepperd / Jeff Peters/Jim Hunter later repaced by Paul Airey...Played the Cart & Horses / Bridge House / Western Counties on a regular basis...Toured Holland in the 70s staying in Zaltbommel..The song with Lousiana in was called Rat Face Woman...A mixture of a lot of blues songs....Finders Keepers was a Chairman of the Board song....Memories ......Alan
They became a semi permanent fixture at the old Bridge House, Canning Time. Great times! Lea Hart sang on a some Bad Co. stuff, I believe! It must be time for a Slowbone & The Wonder Boys reunion gig?
Hi used to see Slowbone all the time in the early 70’s at the Bridgehouse and the Greyhound I remember Alan Osbourne too. He was friends with Harry Samsun Harry lives in the Canary Islands now with his partner. We often sat in the back of the van and had a smoke lol Good times. Am 68 now so a long time ago 👍😀🎼
@TrollaTralla dude you live in like the absolute golden years for lovers of music. we have the internet to find aaalll this great shit from the past century and then some. i understand what youre saying but theres still alot of really great stuff being made today, plus unlimited access to the past. much love my brother, from another 90s kid.
I used to see a band called Slowbone in a pub in Strratford E london called the Cart & Horses in mid 70's. They were really good. They did a song called "Finders Keepers"we all loved it. Is this the same band and what happened to them?
Hi, I'm from Portugal. From 1975 to 1977 I lived in London and I used to go to a pub in Paddington (I think it was "Western Countries") to watch a group called Slowbone. Is this the same Slowbone? I remember I loved their music. They were four as far as I can remember (Guitar/vocal, Keys, Bass & drums) and the only thing I remember they used to play a song "I'm going to Louisiana..." Good old days, I was 20. Are these the same Slowbone? Can anybody tell me? Does anybody know?
Very much a pleasure to hear this again. I last heard it nearly 40 years ago in the Cart & Horses at Maryland Point, Stratford; the band having a regular weekend slot there after a finishing a long residency at the Bridgehouse, Canning Town. A very good band with great songwriting and arrangement skills. Have you got a recording of their 'I'm a Liar' by any chance? I'd love to hear that again. Cheers TSY
Danava covers this song on Hemisphere of Shadows, it's freaking awesome. I tried to post a link but it won't let me. Just search the UA-cams for "Danava Last Goodbye"
I saw this band loads of times at the Cart and Horses in Stratford (every Wednesday and Saturday night - basically becausae there wasn't much else to do in the early to mid 1970s). We all thought they were pretty good (but not brilliant) and were gutted when their first single was an awful cover of 'Happy Birthday, Sweet Sixteen' (the B-side was better).
Ahh...fcking....mazing! I found this because one of my favorite bands Danava covered it for their latest album!! If you have a chance check out their version!
it is a excellent cover. but they have two guitars in harmony and switch to organ for the solo. The organ played the harmony to Barry ( Lea) Harts guitar on their live gigs.
We have organize some tours with SLOWBONE THE WONDERBOYS in Holland. We even played at the Paradiso at Amsterdam. Good band. We had a lot of fun. What are they doing at the moment> Who know something about them.? Let us know: info@firstclassentertainment.nl of facebook.com/firstclassentertainment
I contacted the singer once on facebook to see if he wanted to share the lyrics with me, but sadly he did not remember them. Here is what I make of it, perhaps it helps you, and if others have corrections please let me know. As a young man I wasted my time With a picture of you in my mind I am just an old man who paints from the rules That you left me, I can't seem to loose From the window I await your return One more time for this candle will burn out Hear me crying and hold back the tears With al the memories from so long-a-years Don't let me make this Don't let me make this The last goodbye Read the news of your death in the paper The car was burning but no one would save her But this girl was the part of my soul That you left when you suddenly go From the window I await your return One more time for this candle will burn out Hear me crying and hold back the tears With al the memories from so long-a-years Don't let me make this Don't let me make this The last goodbye

I am absolutely obsessed with this song

Heard Danava's cover of this song. Both are killers. Thanks for uploading for everyone to enjoy.
Great tune. We used to go and watch them play at the cart and horses, good days xx
I found it...finally...so many years I couldnt ever really attach myself to a rock band with this type of kickin sound....Slowbone is epic.
First time hearing this song and is great

Always used to see their Melody maker adverts and loved the name and logo...lived thousands of miles away so never heard them 'til now. Great stuff.
Danava sent me here. They do a killer cover of this tune.

I just wish this song was longer. It builds up to this wild climax and then just ends. I wish they'd have sustained it.
They became a semi permanent fixture at the old Bridge House, Canning Time. Great times! Lea Hart sang on a some Bad Co. stuff, I believe! It must be time for a Slowbone & The Wonder Boys reunion gig?

As a young man I wasted my time
With a picture of you in my mind
I am just an old man who paints from the rules
That you left me, I can't seem to loose
From the window I await your return
One more time for this candle will burn out
Hear me crying and hold back the tears
With al the memories from so long-a-years
Don't let me make this
Don't let me make this
The last goodbye
Read the news of your death in the paper
The car was burning but no one would save her
But this girl was the part of my soul
That you left when you suddenly go
From the window I await your return
One more time for this candle will burn out
Hear me crying and hold back the tears
With al the memories from so long-a-years
Don't let me make this
Don't let me make this
The last goodbye
The animals midsection
The singer from Wolfmother was obviously heavily influenced by this singer. And this whole band.
@TrollaTralla go listen to Witchcraft and Graveyard
AAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Just kidding!
