Can you do the setup and make various changes without using the phone app, or does it become pretty much useless if the app becomes unsupported or unavailable in the future?
Yes you can. I have the predecessor to the KRAD from X-vision, the XAN500 (I believe is the name) Pretty much the same exact scope, just with more buttons. The more buttons made it harder to get used to, but I actually never bothered with the app. I mean I tried it, and didn't care for it, strictly because I didn't give a crap about videos. No question the app makes everything easier, but if you like old school and are stubborn like me, then you can just use the buttons for everything. You can also pick up a second IR illuminator and add it to the little pic rail on the side to drastically increase how far and how well you can see. X-vision kinda gets the rep of a power end product, but their night vision tech is great. I also have the NV Mono which I use to scan and come off the scope for a bit. Really is a great product line.
