More and more public land hunters are realizing that saddle hunting is not the be-all, end-all of mobile hunting. There are times when you want more comfort and simplicity, or when hunting elevated just isn't the right choice due to terrain and vegetation. For situations like this, you need to "up your ground game" and start hunting eye-to-eye with whitetails. To do this, you need the most comfortable hunting chair I've found on the market: The Waldrop Pac Seat.
In this video I go over the features of the Pac Seat and weigh-in on my thoughts on it after a full season of using it weekly.

Thought about getting out of the tree. That seat look comfortable
It's supremely comfortable.
I never seen this much honesty speaking about saddles.
I since have bought one of these and I think a seat cushion is a must have, but they are high quality, extremely lightweight, and comfortable. It’s worth the money.
I have one and modified the seat for my skinny butt. I love hunting from the ground and this seat is great. Some folk scoff at the price, but will drop $300-$500 on a climber or they will buy multiple ladder stands at similar prices. With this you only have to buy one. A great piece of equipment that keeps you comfortable is worth a little more. It's 100% American made not some chinese crap. I think you'll like it.
Hey Nut.... Thanks for the video. As an older man, I'm not too keen on climbing trees anymore. I've been ground hunting and just squatting on the ground which tends to not allow me a great viewing scope thru brush and thickets. I do believe this Pac-Seat could be the ticket for me. Again, thanks for enlightening me for next season.
As a traditional archer looking for a better way to set up on the ground after trying lots of budget seats and professional made hunting seats, I was turned onto the pac site last year. I didn’t get it in time to hunt out of it before season closed so I am looking forward to trying it out this year.
However I have practice shooting my bow out of it and just generally getting a feel for it since it arrived.
I can confirm that it is comfortable and very well made. I am 6’3” 340lbs and have had no issues.
I can also see it being very versatile as you mentioned in vid which was a selling point for me.
More importantly and the reason I will be buying another is Mr David Waldrop is a true gentleman. His service was excellent, the transaction was painless. I was treated like an old friend through the entire process.
The sit isn’t cheap but well worth the cost. I highly recommend the pac seat.
Mr. David is definitely a great guy who makes a great chair!
I have owned one for a couple of years. It is a game changer for sure. It is comfortable which equates to remaining still. I use a ghillie suit and have had deer at 10 yards that had no clue I was there.....until I shot them lol. Yes it isn't "cheap" but, you get what you pay for. I own a saddle, Lone Wolf hand climber and XOP lock on stands. The Waldtop Pacseat is the most comfortable system out there. I shoot a Black Widow recurve, Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt and a Henry Big Boy from my Pacseat. I use it in Big Timber, swampy areas, thickets, edges you name it. It works!
Just got my Waldrop Pac seat yesterday here in Tennessee. Think I may try it Monday when I go hunting again.
I live in the Mobile area too. What you sold me on is the year round versatility if you’re an outdoorsman.
I’ve saddle hunted for a couple years now, and other than practice, I don’t use it outside of hunting season. Even with DIY’ing most of my saddle gear, I’m still way over what this chair costs.
I had the same knee jerk reaction, but I’ve used the cheap chairs and sat on the ground, this looks like it could be a winner. Thanks for reviewing
Thanks! I've been hunting out of my black out turkey chair for a few years and have enjoyed it. Pretty much just like if I was chasing a turkey, however I like this chair and may consider it. New Sub, north Baldwin County here also.
Just and update to your comment about lead time on ordering one. It has been much better recently. I wanted to thank you for your video on this seat. I ordered mine a few months back and it has been a game changer for me. Some guys frown at the price BUT it is of high quality for sure.
Great review!! Currently waiting on mine...
Good review bud! I had a blast hunting deer from the ground this year. It's definitely a tool that every deer hunter needs to use!
Hey Walt. When you going to get ol' Nutter to be a guest on your podcast.
Awesome Nick!
I used a hunters seat for late season this year (that’s the name) and I loved it. I have been using a strap on orange plastic seat that I have had for 15+ years when I ground hunt or a fold out type deal and found the hunters seat and ordered it last year. I just came across this seat which is a lot bigger of a seat and looks way more comfortable than the old orange plastic seat I did have. If I would have seen this prior to the hunter seat buy I would have probably give this a try it looks very nice and usable.
I agree! Saddle is not for all day sit, but it does have its advantages.
Great review. Thank you
I bought a saddle setup last year and find that I have to carry too much stuff to make it enjoyable. I ended up hunting from my climber more at the end of the season and then hunted off the ground a bit as well. I ordered a Waldrop before Christmas so I’ll be getting one soon myself. I may keep the saddle setup for some places that have crappy trees, but I am finding I can see a lot of deer hunting from the ground and I can honestly carry less stuff and be about as quiet on my summit open shot.
Great videos keep grinding 💪
Saw these a few years ago on SH. Think dave or another Texas hunter had some pics of it. I will have me one before next season. The fact that it can be used as a pack frame is just a bonus. He may have designed the perfect ground hunting chair!
I think he did. :)
Liked and subscribed big dog! Exactly what I been looking for!
I've had one of those for 6 or 8 years probably. Best chair height seat I've found. I 2nd that saddles ain't perfect for everything. "It's dirt simple" 😆
Yep. It gets you just high enough that you can see over the grass and little bushes. And if you manage to break it or use it wrong, you just need to stay home. Simple. :)
I have a couple bucket seats and do alot of ground hunting. It's the way to go alot of times. Alot of times I have a saddle and a LW hand climber top and I end up sitting at ground level on one of those, or slightly elevated to gain height but not skyline myself.
Good Stuff!
Great info! I was waiting for another pack mod to be displayed, I guess you didn’t have luck finding on that would slide over.
Yeah, the alice pack didn't pan out.
Great review. - Thanks!
You're welcome!
Dude, everything you said is absolutely true!
really good review

Great seat.
Nice,I just got the dimensions off your channel to make one, materials ain't cheap no more
Hey, the audio is much improved.
Thanks
Yall spoke, I listened! Video and audio gear isn't cheap but thanks to the subscribers and a side gig with Eastern Woods outdoors inwas finally able to pony up and do it right!
You should use a dryad drey saddle. Or at least the hammock part of it. It's the only saddle I can sit any amount of time longer than an hour. It was a game changer for me being tall and heavy. Plus you can just get the hammock part and hook it onto the saddle you already have.
This is exactly what I was thinking a hunting seat should look like
I can see that being a great dove hunting chair. I hate carrying those tripod chairs on one shoulder flopping around. Things I see about the chair that I don’t like is the price but that’s to expect from a small business. 2nd is the front legs. I can see them sinking in the ground easily. If they were connected together like the back leg support, it will work a lot better but don’t know if that will affect how it closes and rides in your back. And 3rd, if you are gonna be packing out a deer or carrying a loaded backpack, I’d like to see some padded shoulder straps. And 4th, I’d paint over that black seat.
Yep, price is high but worth it in my book. The front legs are actually the way they are to allow the chair to straddle roots at the base of big trees. A lot of guys put tennis balls on them to help with sinkage, but for me it was only ever an issue in really soft mud. It will sink low, but I was never unable to hunt with it. You could always leave the back legs folded down and lean against the tree if roots weren't a factor. That would give you more surface are but you'd need a tree. Or, I imagine you could fab up a detachable front leg bar. I agree 100% about the straps though and will probably add some for next year. As far as the paint, I can take it or leave it. If it had bottomlands printed fabric that was as heavy-duty as what it currently has, it'd be rockin. But I don't think deer care. The only times I got busted was if I moved or they smelled me.
I have wanted this seat since I first discovered it years ago but have never been able to spend the money. I hunt on the ground a lot and have many different ground seats and tree seats. My go to ground seat the past few years has been the Beard Buster Ground’n Pound System and favorite tree seat is the Millennium M300 This chair looks great, good points on using it other than hunting. Do you ever have any issues with squeaking with the metal and fabric (like those cheap doves stools do)? Thanks for sharing.
The only squeaking I have had is at the hinges. A quick squirt of silicone lubricant fixed that right up and since then it is deadly quiet.
One of the features I love about my JX3 is ground seat mode. I use it all during turkey season and as a fishing seat. The Pac Seat is 8lbs lighter, so the question for me becomes is 8lb worth $250. Probably... LOL
If you have a JX3, you have the only other thing on the market that I think competes with the pac seat. I like the waldrop slightly better as a chair, but obviously the JX3 wins points for being usable in the trees. They're both top of the class.
You didnt lied Nick, you did add a few COVID lbs!! -with love
I added them and then multiplied them! Living the High Life! ;)
Looks great have you tried hunters seat? Leans up against tree? Just wondering if you tried them
I ordered one back in February, after Dave told me he was swamped with orders, but I was not worried as I would not be needing it until fall.
So I sent in the full $350, but now I cannot get Dave to respond to my emails or VM.
Don't know if he is not well or if there is some kind of other crisis in his life or business, but I may have lost my money.
What saddle do you use. I usually ground hunt in late season when there is no cover in the air.
So one question
What keeps the seat from going side to side when leaned against the tree ? For instance if you were to lean left or right or fell asleep which I do a lot lol
What's the seat and tubing made from. Awesome video
The tubing is aluminum, and the fabric is almost like trampoline material
Very nice review. Man if the guy can add wheels to it, you can use it as a game cart too.
I like where your head's at! I did use it just this weekend to haul a 95lb pig on my back
2 week lead time Nov/Dec 2023
Are you stuck leaning back while sitting?
I'm more of a dragger, dragging my ass out of the woods after the hunt 😂
I like it but $250 for a chair is outrageous
Why? People charge the same amount for loc-ons, climbers, and saddles. Both accomplish the same goal. Just giving you a comfortable place to sit while you wait for deer. I'm sure the price would go down if they were being mass-produced, but it wouldn't go down much. 6061 aluminum isn't cheap and neither is welding, riveting, and sewing work.
250$ for a chair you that you can't even adjust height, lmao. Definetly equal to or better options out there for hell of a lot less money. Mine fits inside my backpack and only sticks up about 6" weighs less than this too.
I'm always happy to review new gear. Got a link? As far as height, I've never seen a lock on or ladder stand where you adjusted hight. My kitchen tables and rocking chair don't adjust height. 5lbs for a 400lb rated chair that you can sit in for the whole day comfortably, and that is hand made by one guy in his garage seems reasonable to me.
Um, adjustable height is pretty useful for different types of vegetation you're sitting in or time of year determining how high the vegetation is. No point in hunting if you can shoot over whatever is in your way. Or if you're going to stick out like a sore thumb.
Adjustment isn't needed on a treestand why? Well because your climbing method is your adjustability.
A cheap non adjusting 3 leg folding tripod chair with a backband is a way better buy than this chair.
I don't know what to tell ya. It obviously ain't for you I reckon. Lack of adjustable height didn't seem to matter for me. 7 deer dead without it. I respectfully disagree with you on the 3 legged stool with a back rest. I've never sat in one of those little dove stool things that wasn't a torture device after a few hours.
What's that chair you were mentioning earlier? I'll check it out.
I don't mind paying for quality but 250 for that, no way, should have lead with that.
Weird that he's backordered several months on them and stays that way
@@nickwilliamsoutdoors people pay 100k plus for cars and 1000 plus for phones , doesn't make them smart. That thing has maybe 20 dollars worth of materials. Very overpriced , youbwanna pay 250 for a folding lawn chair be my guest , I won't do it , literally thought watching the video , "yeah I'd pay 50 bucks maybe 100 but at 100 I'd have to be pretty desperate" then you chime in that it's 250 and was done . If you don't like comments then turn them off , what did you early think you were gonna get when reviewing folding chair that costs 250 ?
@@nonetheless01 my feelings aren't hurt, and the chair isn't overpriced if supply can't keep up with demand. Econ 101. If you can make one for $50-100 bucks, I'll take 2. Otherwise hush
@@nickwilliamsoutdoors I can make them for less I have a tubing bender and my wife has an industrial sewing setup . I however will not hush . Overpriced is overpriced ,I don't need you to quote me me about "Econ 101" . This is the internet and I will say what I want , just like you do . Now I'm off to see what for aluminum tube they have at the metal shop and see where I can but some mesh netting but no I won't sell you any as you can make it yourself just like I'm gonna do , one more thing , that design isn't anything new either just in case you didn't know .
I somehow doubt you're going to build a chair, but just on the off chance...Do me a favor and when you get done building the chair let us know what you have in materials and time. We'll overlook the cost of an industrial sewing machine, tubing bender, and MIG welder into the cost of your build. Prove me wrong. Build it for yourself, with no profit margin and assuming you already own the manufacturing equipment, at your $50-$100 price point. Count the aluminum, fabric, rivets, pins, thread, welding consumables; and how many hours you have in obtaining materials, designing, and fabrication.
Look forward to seeing your chair!
A folding tripod stool weighs a pound and cost $11
You're not wrong
Hey, this is Tommy from The Waldrop Company. I would like to send you a free chair for a new video idea.
Hey Tommy, that sounds fun! I think Mr. David should have my number.
I stopped listening when you said saddle hunting isn’t perfect......
Saddle hunting is obviously perfect. Ask the Facebook horde. ;)
I’ll pass, on FB. Thx for the free car maintenance advice & another great video !
