Nick, FANTASTIC job on the video, my fellow Eugenian - you really captured the adventure, frustration and elation of getting to the summit! Enjoyed the climb to the roof of Indonesia with you, and cracking open our share of Bintang’s waiting for the weather Gods to clear the clouds. Here’s to the first of your Seven Summits and look forward to sharing another adventure to another of the Seven with you! Terima casi, Kevin

Most likely cause of delay in your Helicopter journey: Indonesia has rainy season around November to March. Heard hiking Puncak Jaya is not cheap, need various permits which may be abruptly cancelled or not accepted. And this hike is very demanding/technical I heard, so congratulations on summiting :-)

I lived in Hong Kong for 3 years plus, and dreamed of climbing this Mountain, but... never got around to it. I went to Hawaii Islands for a visit instead. Great little video - I can see what I missed.

Funny how i ask myself the same question as i do a summit. The why... but then i realize the why doesnt matter as i am enjoying myself. Just as to the question why are we alive doesnt matter its what you do at the moment and enjoy it. The why question is rather a negative perspective. If you look back at those days waiting you know after its worth it.

Right on man, that place looks awesome. congrats. My wife is from East Borneo, I live in Illinois, hope to go to West Papua with my family someday. Just got back from a trip to Bali and Borneo myself. I also want to climb Mt. Kinabalu. I keep praying for these unjust coca leaf laws to change, because that would have been a major plus for you up there.

It's a huge shame that the helicopter has become almost the only way to reach the base camp because of some idiots with too much authority. But it was still amazing to watch, this mountain is on my bucket list as well, but I hope I will be able to hike through the jungle safely at that time. :) By the way do you plan to climb Aconcagua?

@@reivl3453 Normally you find - 6.5 degrees /1000 m in the atmosphere. So + 2 degrees would be 300 m altitude increase in snow-boundary , or glacier boundary.
So glaciers start 300 m higher in future.

@@louisvanrijn3964 There are some Glaciers at 8:20 to 8:31 but it's located in another peaks. There are so many peaks in Jayawijaya Mountains, not only Carstensz Pyramid. There also a Snow Fall in 10:49. Jayawijaya Mountains also has Snow Storm but that condition is too dangerous for mountaineers and helicopter
. The snow cover thickness is maybe depends on in what season you come to Jayawijaya Mountains. You can search on Google to see some photos when the snow covers in Jayawijaya Mountains are so thick.

    Nice video man!
Question for you: Is there a way to summit this mountain without using the fixed wire bridge? I can hardly believe that mountaineering greats like Reinhold Messner would walk over this bridge. What did they do? (Not being sarcastic, just curious. If I ever go, I’ll use the bridge of course)

No not really if you have a strong base. 4000m isn’t really that high as far as mountaineering goes
