  • This video demonstrates 20 minutes of additional restored scenes and gameplay from the game's penultimate quest Tedd Deireadh, The Final Age. In the final game Yennefer come out of nowhere and portals Geralt away after he defeats Eredin. In this cut version he is instead knocked out and wakes up in a hospital starting off the new section of gameplay.
    Notes and Breakdown:
    General
While I was able to find the cutscenes, dialog, lipsync, text, and character models, all the actual map placement data for these scenes are missing. As result all the location for these scene were my best guess based on context. There are also no objectives present for this extended section however it is rather easy to infer what they are.
    See here for more details

I just wanted to clear up some misinformation.
    1. Cerys is not dead. The Nilfgaardian soldier is speaking about a random female Skellige warrior. Cerys shows up at the funeral if Hjalmar is King while Hjalmar shows up if Cerys is queen(this was CDPRs intention). Donar an Hindar shows up if Svanrige is King.
    2. Yen always saves Triss. Doesn't matter who you romance. However your romance choice does change up the dialog a bit.
    3. The animation data for the actual arrest part and the Triss escape is missing. The brooch that Yen gives Triss at the funeral is supposed to be what helps her escape. That's why she is all sus about it.
    4. I personally think CDPR cut this for 3 reasons. The first is pacing as mentioned by many (I personally would've kept it since I still think the final ending is rushed). The second is that I think they really tried to hide the fact that final battle is really Skellige and Nilfgaard fighting with the Wild Hunt somewhere in the midst of it. The final game gives off the impression that Skellige and Nilfgaard are teaming up to fight the Wild Hunt. The last reason is I think then really toned down the Yen doing evil shit to save Ciri stuff. This is honestly not even close to the worst thing that CDPR originally had her doing in the game. I'll leave the last part for the fans to debate as with everything.
I'm working on getting out some kind of video with xLetalis to showcase all the options and variations of this sequence so hopefully that should clear some misconceptions.

I like the fact that Emhyr is breaking his agreement with the Lodge because he thinks strategically as getting rid of a dangerous enemy. Very fitting. I also like how far Yen would go. I imagine that the brooch for Triss was also maybe a way for Triss to save the Lodge. I would not ignore this option imho

      @@macgarnicle Exactly.
I don't think Yen would hesitate to sacrifice Philippa if she felt like it's the only way to save Ciri, but Margarita is one of her closest friends, and she kinda owes Fringilla one for helping her escape from the Lodge in the books. I don't think she would let either of them get killed.
And I agree with your second point as well. I guess Fringilla could reasonably be considered traitor to the Empire, as she is Nilfgaardian citizen, and we know that all Nilfgaardian mages must put Empire above all else. Joining a secret organization meant to put interests of magic and mages above anything else can easily count as treason. But you can't betray your oath to Empire if you have never sworn it, as is the case for the Norther mages.
Getting Margarita and Philippa to serve the Empire (which is basically their only option if Radovid is still in power) makes much more sense than having them executed for what amounts to 'having made plans that were tangentially contrary to imperial interests, that didn't get realized anyway'

Also, this cut content had me thinking back on the many times I played the game and realize that:
Geralt never mentioned to the An Craites that he is working with Nilfgaard to look for Ciri. Now I see the shock in Hjalmars' statement and feeling of betrayal that Geralt, considered a friend- and maybe family- of Skellige is working with the enemy.
When Geralt asked Emhyr in the ship, about the Lodge, "Truly willing to forgive them? Amnesty in exchange for their help?" And Emhyr gives a vague response "I'm prepared to abide by the agreement I made with Yennefer". Geralt follows it up with "Didn't answer my question". And Emhyr quipped, "Nor must I". Meaning, no amnesty was included in that agreement, so Yennefer lied about it to the Lodge's face to get them to help her.
    That is deep!

@@kaloryfer99999 Basically instead of Skjall, Astrid's brother was a mentally disabled albino boy named Hvitr. Yennefer suspects that he may be a source kinda like Alvin was in W1. Astrid is in a coma so only Hvitr saw what happened to Ciri in the Wild Hunt attack. Yennefer wants to do some ritual on him to extract the info and Geralt and Mousesack are vehemently opposed to it(idk if it was a player choice). In order to get Geralt out of the way she imprisons on him on an island with some tribe of undead people that paint themselves white called the Thralls. There was this whole entire quest were you have to get off the island and all that. Geralt come back only to find the ritual is complete. Hvitr says that Astrid is actually alive and in a coma. Then you can go to Freyas garden to try and heal her. She wakes up and then shares what happened to Ciri and the flashback in Lofoten plays out. However since there is no Skjall you instead get to do the Ice Skating tutorial with Ciri(a mechanic I restored in one of my mods) and then the Wild Hunt attacks.
This stuff was removed in the 2014 rewrite so that Yen would be more likable to new players who hadn't read the books. That same rewrite also replaced False Ciri with Cerys and downgraded the whole Skellige Ruler quest line to a sidequest as it was part of the main quest before among many other things.
She was also doing some strange medical experiments on herself(maybe to have a child?) with the Nilfgaardians in Vizima but I'm still piecing that one together.

This cut content is way better than the actual official ending that is clearly rushed and a bit nonsensical because of the fact that the lodge and the rivalries between Nilfgaard and Skellige simply vanish just like that. This content was just perfect in my opinion and I sincerely hope someone will turn it into a REDkit creation (I would do that myself if I had the skills to do it). Also I would at the very least add Eskel and Lambert in the final battle against the Hunt (cameos at least) and Keira if still alive.
This game is great but it suffers a lot at certain points due to plot holes caused by all of this cut content. They probably removed it because they had pushed forward the release date for 2 times already, they couldn't push it forward for the 3rd just to add this part.
There's a lot of good characters missing like Iorveth, Yaevinn, Vincent, Siegfried...also Letho mentioning 2 more witchers that never made any appearance.

The Crach funeral was cool, but honestly I'm glad they cut this. The tension from the final battle going into the search for Ciri would've been completely ruined if everything was suddenly slowed down like this. • @uselessmug755
      @uselessmug755 3 місяці тому +15

I think the placement is good, but the pacing is bad. 1) Cut out all the unnecessary dialogues with the soldiers asking where Ciri is. 2) Keep in the funeral bit and the lodge scene, maybe even the Triss-Yen moment before the tower scene and you have a really nice 'calm before the storm' moment. 3) If they boosted up the dialogues and got a little bit more urgency in the scenes direction wise.. 4) And just as a joke maybe put in a 'Why don't we settle this in a round of Gwent?' dialogue option with Emhyr. I think this is very good content for character closures.

On one hand, I think adding a sequence like this between the Eredin fight and the Avallach confrontation would have been pretty good, but on the other hand, I am glad this did not make the final cut. It's so... crude? I don't know how to call it. But the dialogue lines are not very good, and the whole sequence just feels off.
I don't doubt that Yen would sacrifice a lot to save Ciri, but Margarita? She's her close friend, probably closer than Triss. If Ciri and Rita both had knives to their throats and Yen had to choose who lives, she would choose Ciri for sure, but in any less extreme situation she would definitely try to save them both.
The dialogue lines the sorceresses have in the arrest scene are also not that good. Fringilla begs for mercy? Margarita has nothing to say about Yen betraying her? Philippa's lines are okay at least, but that's not enough.
Emhyr's problem with the Lodge is also a bit weird. In the books the Lodge and Nilfgaard had conflicting interests, but they never got into any direct confrontation, and in the games Emhyr played the Lodge like a fiddle. They never did anything that would warrant interrogation, tortures and executions (with exception for Fringilla, who - as an Imperial subject - committed treason when she gave her allegiance to the Lodge). Sure, he might want to have them assassinated just to remove some potentially powerful political players, but the game frames it like they all committed treason against the Empire, for which Emhyr previously promised them amnesty, and now wants to punish them.
Geralt's exit with "kiss my ass, Emhyr" is also beyond unbelievable. Emhyr would absolutely have him punished for this, not because he'd take it personally, but because you won't be an Emperor for much longer if you ever show your subjects that a random guy can just insult you and walk away scot-free. Geralt is risking getting imprisoned or killed, when he knows he absolutely needs to go and find Ciri as fast as possible. The logical consequence of such dialogue line should be "You died. Load last save?" screen.

    • @Tomcat_Centauri

Hard agree on the latter part. Every single interaction Geralt and Emhyr have up until then is tense, and Geralt is clearly abusing the fact that he's needed to be as impertinent as he can, but within reason.
This is just crossing the line, and there's dozens of soldiers all around, the Sorceresses have just been removed, Geralt can't take them all and there's just no time.
I'm a bit sad that they removed the possibility to die in dialogues like in The Witcher 2. This would've absolutely warranted a "You Died" screen.

I think you might be forgetting that the Empire has an extremely negative view of magic and magic users. There are not a lot of details available in the books, but definitely enough to see that magic users in the Empire don't have even the 10th of the freedoms sorceresses have enjoyed in the Northern kingdoms before the events of the games (with Kovir and Poviss being the current exception). Secondly, the Lodge of Sorceress has conspired to prevent Nilfgaard from taking over the North, and while I'm not sure if Emhyr is fully aware of the extent of their manipulations, I think he knows at least that basic fact that they have opposed him and his conquering. I mean, a lot of sorceresses have fought in The Battle of Sodden Hill - a direct confrontation with Nilfgaard, albeit not exactly from the Lodge, but it showed that the magical society stood with the people of the North at that time.

    • @Tomcat_Centauri
      @Tomcat_Centauri 3 місяці тому

@@AliveIsAll_I_am I think nobody outside the Lodge is fully aware of how far the Lodge has conspired to manipulate the Events unfolding on the Continent, but by the time of The Witcher 3, i figure it's practically common knowledge that they're responsible for manipulating several Kingdoms to further their own agendas and being responsible for the "unfortunate demise" of a few problematic Rulers. And after having orchestrated the King slayings in The Witcher 2, i don't think Emhyr is the kind of man who would give anyone the opportunity to pull a Reverse Uno on him. Once the Lodge has served its purpose, the Sorceresses become lose ends in the very best of cases, like Letho and the Vipers.
Not to mention, it would be both in-character and fairly understandable for Emhyr to despise Mages, if just because some assisted the Usurper in overthrowing and torturing his Father to death and afflicting him with a Curse that took over a decade to break.

@@AliveIsAll_I_am @Tomcat_Centauri My point is not that Emhyr has no reason to kill them, I agree that Emhyr would want the Lodge dead. I just find it weird how it is framed as them getting punished for a crime. Like when Rita says they were promised amnesty - not asylum or residence or anything, specifically amnesty. Which is granted by the government to it's subjects, who are accused of crimes.
Filippa, Triss and Margarita are not imperial subjects. It does not constitute a crime for them to have fought at Sodden, Nilfgaard hardly has the authority or reason to formally prosecute them for killing Demawend and Foltest, and they can't commit treason against the Empire if they were never supposed to be loyal to it in the first place.
Again, that doesn't mean that they can't be killed by Emhyr, it just means that he's reasoning should be something like 'it's just reason of state' not 'no amnesty for you - answer for your crimes'

Maaan I missed the option to hand over Philippa in this game. I'd prefer to just hand her over to Radovid, but hey at least there was an option to punish her for the whole intrigue in witcher 2. I hate it that in the end she was just free and happy, like bruh you were one of the main witcher 2's antagonist, why would I ever side with you? And she wasn't like Letho, she was just selfish and brought every misery to herself.
I'd even respect Emhyr for that move. It's more in character for him to betray the lodge, and it's soo satisfying to see Philippa arrested.
And Crach's proper burial is a neat touch. Real nice to see Hjalmar/Cerys again right before the end.
Honestly I would've prefered if that whole thing was left in the game. I guess they cut it in order to have more dramatic ending without any breaks, but this would've worked as well. After defeating the wild hunt we have a moment of peace just before the "second conjunction". This would also imply that it took Avalach and Ciri longer to open the tower, which is also more realistic than how quickly they manage to bring the conjunction in the finale.

So he did it for his own selfish reasons, same as Philippa. He killed Demavend, Foltest and planned killing Henselt and Thyssen. His actions brought death and slavery upon millions of people. But he clearly doesn't care about innocents dying or even about killing them, unlike Geralt.
["Besides, he used to be Geralt's ally in finding and taking care of Yen."] I guess that's why you have these weird double standards. Just because someone is your friend you think his crimes are less terrible? And btw, Philippa also helped Geralt a number of times (to save Ciri in the books or look for Triss in W2).

@@mrlucky9157 Dunno why there was no notification that you responded, but better late than never.
Just wow bruh, I don't think I've ever seen such a thumbled criticism of Letho...
Firstly, he never said they were gonna keep making viper witchers. All he said is that the school will be rebuilt so that other viper witchers (his friends) will have a home to go back to and they'll no longer be outcasts in Nilfgaard (as most witchers are). Those are literally not just selfish reasons, he explicitly states that other witchers will have a restored home, he doesn't even mention that HE will have a home to go back to.
Secondly, his actions brought death, sure. But seeing the situation he was in, he didn't have much of a choice. He was captured by nilfgaardian agents, offered a deal by the emperor himself and a chance to help other viper witchers. Sure the consequences for the north are collosal but he doesn't care about that. However, unlike Philippa, his ultimate goal is not "power and right to rule over the world" but a simple restoration of a place he once called home.
And finally, Letho helped Geralt with rescuing and taking care of Yen despite the fact that he gained absolutely nothing from it. It was an honorable thing to do, Geralt saved his life once, he felt like he had a debt to pay. And later when Geralt helps him again in witcher 3, Letho has no problem with returning the favor even when it means risking his life, which will not benefit him at all.
Philippa on the other hand is selfish, only thing she cares about is her self-interest. Even when she helps others, the reasons are not virtuous, it's always about what can she gain from it, power, status, reputation, it's always about her. And remember that in tearms of causing trouble in the north she's just as bad, as Letho, if not worse. But unlike him, she has no good redeeming qualities.
You call this double standards? You are literally wrong, those are two different characters with different backgrounds and motivations, therefore they can be judged differently. That's some key aspects of morality😆

In the books Yen is forced to attend a meeting of the Lodge where they plan what to do with Ciri. She very much wants to get away, and make sure she finds Ciri before them, but Philippa has some teleportation-preventing barriers around they meeting place.
During a lunch break at that meeting Fringilla points out that the oysters served there are from someplace far away and there is a very risky form of teleportation that uses an object from distant place as a beacon, that would not be stopped by the barrier.
So Yen escapes, and almost drowns since she teleported into open sea somewhere near Skellige.
Here the trinket is mentioned to be something made in Kovir, so this is presumably a very similar situation- she can escape to Kovir using this trinket as a beacon.

Yeah, i feel like despite the Games are set from a Northern perspective, CDPR did a good job at showing that every side has its good and bad, and at the end of the day every side is bad for its own reasons.
So it makes me wonder, since most of the Nilfgaardian content was cut from the game, whether it would've been the same, or if the whole Arc was supposed to really show Nilfgaardians are mean and evil, while the North plays victim but jump at every chance they get to commit genocides.
I think Emhyr was criminally underused in the Game. Witcher 1 and 2 really build the character as that ruthless overarching antagonist, they got the most perfect Actor to voice him, his character design is fantastic, and you only see him a few times.

  • @DaveEvert
    @DaveEvert 3 місяці тому +37

I wish they had kept this for several reasons.
    1. Gives closure to the Lodge characters. You can see some of remaining dialogue from this cut content in the final game.
    BEFORE THE CUT SEQUENCE
When Geralt confronts Emhyr asking him if he is ready to forgive the Lodge he says he is ready to abide by the agreement he made with Yennefer. If this piece of content is cut, we never really find out what that agreement was.
    AFTER THE CUT SEQUENCE
If you choose to romance Triss at the end of the game Geralt tells Emhyr that somebody is waiting for him. Emhyr replies by saying 'Triss Merigold? Don't worry I don't intend to pursue her." Which is a strange thing to say since with this content being cut, there is no mention of Emhyr ever wanting to punish Triss (because she escaped) or the other sorceresses.
    2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this cut content contains the ONLY conversation between Yen and Triss in the ENTIRE GAME (besides that 3some scene if you romance them both of course). This alone for me is the reason it should have stayed in.
YENEFFER AND TRISS LITERALLY DONT HAVE A SINGLE SCENE TOGETHER IN THE ENTIRE GAME BESIDES THIS ONE AND IT GOT CUT! WHAT THE HELL CDPR?!

Here Geralt seems to be injured, assumed killed by those Nilfgaardians in final fight with Eredin. Also, no, there is no indication that actually Nilfgaard was fighting the clans at the same time, that is kind of stupid idea in context of setting a trap for the Naglfar. So, who knows what final fight that precedes this video was supposed to be, so that this is its outcome.
