Great to see this - my first car was a 1953 Anglia in which I passed my test. My dad and I bought it on hire purchase for around £350 in May 1961. I part exchanged it for a 1956 MKII Zephyr convertible in December 1962. During the short time that I had the Anglia I had the big ends re-metalled (no shells) and renewed the piston rings. I also had to replace the clutch plate. We did some long trips in it, and since it was my first car I was thrilled to bits with it but the Zephyr was much more to my liking - hydraulic operated clutch and brakes, a heater and blinkers instead to semaphore signals - luxury!

Bakelite dash! The height of luxury in a rapidly changing world. My first car was a 1953 Popular. Wooden floors, kingpins, cable brakes and transverse suspension. I don't recall mine going as fast as yours!😊

This one has the larger Prefect motor, though still uses the carb and inlet manifold of the smaller one. So perhaps a little more oomph yet to come if I can source parts!

@@bike_runs 1172? rather than the 933, the later 1172cc engine (100E) had a water pump rather than thermo siphon, yours being a 1953 it must be one of the last before the 'New' 100E Anglia was launched

@@nickb5391Yep, its a 1172cc engine from a prefect I expect. Not the later 100E one

Ah! That takes me back. Had a couple of these back in the seventies. Both black the green was a rare beast. By the look of it you have a very good one especially starting. They were a nightmare at times. As for the speed they were never that fast, but yours rides and runs well even the steering looks tight. Just keep checking the oil level, they all burn oil even with a recon engine. Listening to first gear.. they all did that. Enjoy.😀
