Hi Doctor. I have a claim in for SSI (NOT SSDI). Most of my disabilities are conditions I was born with, physical and psychological, with a few being quite degenerative. How does Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome affect eligibility? My hypermobility from EDS is very severe (all my fingers bend ALL the way back to my hand, completely, no resistence), and I have extreme chronic pain in basically every joint. I also have POTS, Brady-Tachy Arrhythmia, beginning of an Aortic Aneurysm, High Functioning Autism, ADHD, Gender Dsyphoria (Im trans and have been on HRT for years), severe documented PTSD, and 6 hospitalizations for Pneumothoraxs in my left lung. I'm only 29, but it seems many of these diagnoses I mentioned compound on each other, making things like extreme chronic fatigue much worse, chronic pain worse and harder to deal with, etc. I rarely get more than 3 hours of sleep a day due to either physical pain in my back/ joints or throughout my body if I was too physical that day, OR... when my body isn't acting up so much, the PTSD or Autism/ Adhd will give me insomnia. It's.... draining. I attempted to work as a teen, but lasted less than 2 months even with a not-too physical job, due to my body just crashing and refusing to function. Standing, sitting, walking, BREATHING... all basic things that I frequently struggle tremendously with. I am very underweight as well. I spent the last 10 years locked up after an awful fight with my abusive father when I was 19 (It was a him-or-me type fight, so you can imagine how awful of an event that was), and I came home 4 months ago. While in prison, I was officially "medically unassigned" from all work and programs due to my medical issues, but I also was not given very much in the way of medical care for all those years. Will Social Security understand this, or will this 10 year gap in specialist care be an issue? I was diagnosed with almost everything I mentioned BEFORE I got locked up, when I was a teen. Sorry if this is a bit long. I am really praying you respond, because I am very new to "being an adult" in the world and I am not capable of working any "normal" job and I am worried because I hear Social Security can be very hard to get. I have my physical and psychological doctors' appointments for Social Security in one month. Again, this is for SSI, not SS "D" I. I know you do not speak for them, and this would just be your opinion, but I would really value and appreciate your thoughts. I have not even mentioned my social or mental struggles in this message. I want to know your thoughts on my physical issues, and how all my diagnoses combined TOGETHER might be viewed (physical and mental). Thank you so much if you've read this far, and if you spare a moment to answer. And regardless, thank you for these videos.
SSI and SSDI have the same medical criteria for disability, and I examine patients for both. What is different are the economic issues, not the medical issues. With your multiple physical and psychological conditions, I would go through the work-related abilities Social Security considers important: the ability to see, hear, sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, speak, travel, understand, remember, concentrate, persist, interact socially, and adapt, and list which abilities your conditions impair and how they impair them. That is what counts in terms of approval. Good luck with your exams!

Question for you doc i got hit head on by a esclade on my motor cycle broke both hips pelvis femur i have a bunch of metal they reconstructed my lower body blood clot in leg also i can not walk very good or for long distances. Pushing a shopping cart really hurts still need knee surgery and pt does this type of injury qualify for disability?
It may. The important thing is, disability depends on your condition NOW, not what you have been through. Also, metal implants usually do not cause any disabling problems. Focus on what is limited now in your ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, or handle objects. I've seen quite a few patients like you, who've been through serious accidents with multiple surgeries. Some of them have made good recoveries, with minimal residual disability - they will be denied by Social Security. Some of them haven't been so lucky - they are left with permanent seriously disabling problems and will be approved for disability.
@DisabilityExams thank you for taking time to reply. Unfortunately there is something wrong with me still the neurologist is working on it. I may have aps as well a blood condition. This weekend I am getting a thing glued on my head from neurologist. I go to doctors full time. I hope this qualifys back to orthopedic doctor as well I can't walk with out being on steroids, pain meds nerve meds, muscle relaxers. I am lucky to be walking as long as it will last I think soon I may be back in chair. Hope this nerve pain thing gets figured out I spend most days in bed laying flat gives the most relief. My pelvis was shattered along with left hip 30 plus pieces of metal holding me together. Again thank you for the information.
Re: the kidney transplant... I was born with only one kidney. If I'm waiting for a transplant because the only kidney I have is failing, wouldn't that qualify?
Hello Dr.Foster could you please answer a few questions about scoliosis? My daughter has severe scoliosis 60deg's S curve with a twist, will be getting a complete spinal fusion, and was denied disability once(under 2nd adjudication now). She misses a lot of school(9th grade) but has maintained a 4.0 GPA. The majority of her assignments are done online regardless if she is in the classroom or at home. Adjustments have been made at school such as one set of books kept at school and another for home, bus stop moved to the front of our house instead of down the street, and much more. I have been asked more questions about behavioral problems or IEP's than the physical limitations and once her grades come up it is as if she's totally fine?? Her whole focus is keeping up school work and frequently says despite the problems from scoliosis one thing it will never do is stop her from pursuing a higher education, the kid has lofty goals I'm positive she'll reach. Have you experienced similar circumstances and what is your opinion on severe scoliosis rarely being approved? Thank you kindly and your videos have helped us understand the tedious application process. Have a wonderful day 😊
Scoliosis is hard to get approved unless one of the following coniditons is met: 1. there is evidence of it causing nerve problems 2. the scoliosis is impairing the function of the lungs and/or heart 3. the person needs two canes, two crutches, a walker, or a wheelchair. Link to Pediatric Listing of Impairments for problems related to the spine (scroll down to section 101.15): www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/101.00-Musculoskeletal-Childhood.htm#101_15 If you haven't already, I would consider engaging a Social Security Disability attorney. Good luck.
@@DisabilityExams Thank you very much for responding. We started the process through the recommendation of her general physician but I am realizing it is easier for an adult with arthritis to be approved vs a child in Annie's situation. I will ask at her next appt if her pain is nerve related and I did use a SSID attorney for the appeal. Overall I think it might be a fruitless endeavor unless the surgery/recovery process(at least 1yr and she will have less mobility afterwards)is considered. Again I honestly appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions and thank you for these videos. It is incredibly helpful during a stressful and frustrating process. Have a wonderful day and please give that adorable pup a boop from Annie.
If someone was diagnosed with distant metastasis of their breast cancer (actually one place being to the spine just as you mentioned) but they continued to work for several months to a year after diagnosis before it became dangerous and impossible to continue, would the fact that they worked for a time hurt their ability to get SSDI approval? FYI doctors are strongly recommending stopping work (and this person can't work and largely sleeps or stays in bed now due to pain and lack of mobility) and the doctors are and willing to fill out whatever paperwork is needed.

I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, polyarthritis, restless leg syndrome, chronic fatigue and coccydynia. Have medical records since 2008, have had several surgeries, will I qualify?
I have applied 4 times for a friend of mine for disability she can not work she has no income no health insurance and forget about a Dr helping you with disability her dr said he dose not do disability her only way to see a Dr is through the ER now
Stop lying. No income will get you free Obamacare. Go to federal government website of affordable care plans and pick one. It's time people start taking care of themselves instead of sitting around waiting for others. I knew you weren't being honest because no income people get free medical insurance....your friend obviously doesn't care enough to get it.
@@Italianwatcher IMO She is just unaware of the coverage she can use and will cover ER visits also. With the mass immigration though I bet the system is failing. Urgency care clinics or the ER may be her only option.
Deafness will qualify, but it has to be deafness, not hard of hearing. Generally means you can't hear or understand another person's speech even if they yell. Tinnitus will not qualify.
I been applying for 10 years now I have Fibromyalgia and I'm sure other conditions I been to disability doctors in the past they were all bias Disability want acknowledge my condition or my medications I take i don't know what to do they want me to see another Disability Doctor for my current Claim I don't know if I should take the appointment or not!! I feel like I'm cursed I been telling the truth about my condition for 10 years how my illness has completely Disabled me They still want acknowledge me!!
I’ve been applying since 2020 been denied all three times , I have a severe condition called RSD . It’s chronic progressive and I have access to NOTHING which is unfortunately making the condition much worse . I look fine and healthy , all of my tests are normal, RSD doesn’t show on scans unless they are very specific like a bone scan or nerve conduction study . Even though my drs have all gone to bat for me … it’s not enough . I’m on a slew of meds , my life is PT or dr appointments , I use mobility devices and am mainly bed bound . I can’t function in the winter hardly at all as cold or hot weather amps the issues up . Still being denied . My attorney is asking my Dr to fill out functionality forms , the guy has written literal books about my condition and I’m still not qualifying . I would thrive if I had a wheelchair and desperately needed benefits . But I’m locked away in bed slowly dying .
I am on disability and have fibromyalgia, but mine is so severe that I cannot walk independently. I am aware that it's very difficult to get disability with only fibro. (I have about 10 other diagnoses.) My best advice is to assure your pain doctor gets involved with very detailed information and sends it to SSA.
My husband has a traumatic brain injury (multiple concussions) and his last 2 leave him with persistent dizziness (he often has to use a cane), tremors, speech and processing issues as well as migraine and insomnia. His allergies keep him from taking most pain medications.
He applied several months ago and we are waiting for a decision. His occupation was as a construction. He has received medical care and been followed and seen at a TBI clinic.
I am not sure what to expect. But it’s been 7 months (they asked for more details about a month ago).
The disability application process is very frustratingly slow. Average time is 18 months.

This is exactly where I’m at as well. 😕
What about having a stroke?
Is it possible to find the significant medical reasons why SSDI approved my disability?
Does being a paraplegic qualify you?
What about Mysthenia Gravis
Myasthenia Gravis is one of the conditions in Social Security's Listing of Impairments. Here is a link to the listing: www.ssa.gov/disability/professionals/bluebook/11.00-Neurological-Adult.htm#11_12
Does ms qualify ?
What About CVID ? Common Variable Immune Diseases?
I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, polyarthritis, restless leg syndrome, chronic fatigue and coccydynia. Have medical records since 2008, have had several surgeries, will I qualify?
I have applied 4 times for a friend of mine for disability she can not work she has no income no health insurance and forget about a Dr helping you with disability her dr said he dose not do disability her only way to see a Dr is through the ER now
Does your state have a basic health insurance? I know it won't cover much and it might be 6 months to get an appointment. Medication may be covered.
No
Stop lying. No income will get you free Obamacare. Go to federal government website of affordable care plans and pick one.
It's time people start taking care of themselves instead of sitting around waiting for others.
I knew you weren't being honest because no income people get free medical insurance....your friend obviously doesn't care enough to get it.
@nomadiavan6560 she is lying. People with no income qualify for Affordable Care Act
@@Italianwatcher IMO She is just unaware of the coverage she can use and will cover ER visits also. With the mass immigration though I bet the system is failing. Urgency care clinics or the ER may be her only option.
Deaf or hard od hearing with tinus both ears yes or no aprov
@@Christinesobsevations I'm so sorry for what you're going through but I do understand all I can do is fight and pray!!
I would go get one of those lawyers that don’t collect until you win. They usually can get it for you
I am on disability and have fibromyalgia, but mine is so severe that I cannot walk independently. I am aware that it's very difficult to get disability with only fibro. (I have about 10 other diagnoses.) My best advice is to assure your pain doctor gets involved with very detailed information and sends it to SSA.
You have to have other then just fibromyalgia
Yeah because people on life support get up and cook dinner all the time. Damn these bastards are brutal.
I had two strokes😊
You should just make videos trolling
You are hilarious
