Halal Muslim food is very popular in every where we have visited and no discrimination is seen! People are free to follow their believes & they do it without any issues/obstacles. Rules are applicable for all people and not to a specific race/group/believe/society! Restriction that western people indicates or says, aren't really a restriction to common Chinese people. Rather it's their way of doing things.
One will notice in China, as I have, that there's a heavier police presence in very popular mosques, and not so in other places of worship. The reason is more about prevention of sabotage of mosques by extremist groups than that of monitoring Muslims.
I was born in Beijing and when I was little my family and friends regularly visited the local Halal restaurants owned by the Hui minority for good Muslim food, even though none of us was Muslim! There was even one right next to my primary school, and many of my classmates ate their breakfast there before coming to school. Now I miss the food so much!
My high school is in a very small county in Tianjin, China. In school canteen, there is a window dedicated for muslin students (or Hui Chinese) that provides halal food. I believe it is so for most Chinese high schools and universities. As a Han Chinese, I (and we) respect their requirement for halal food and I personally find halal food very very tasty.
China is a multi-ethnic country with far more than 56 ethnic groups. We live in harmony and respect each other. Although I am not a Muslim, I prefer halal food, such as Lanzhou noodles. I am in Guangdong, and there is a restaurant with the best taste of Lanzhou noodles here, but unfortunately, the owner has left Guangdong, and I will never be able to eat the best Lanzhou noodles again.😮💨
Most people in China believe that places with surveillance cameras are safe because they can retain any criminal evidence and allow any illegal behavior to be quickly punished.
It must be admitted that Muslim groups (not all, many Muslims have no different with others and never flaunt their faith) such as the Hui ethnic group are generally considered to be relatively xenophobic and conservative in China. Compared with followers of Christianity, Buddhism, and Taoism, Muslim are indeed more conservative and xenophobic, especially in terms of marriage, education of offspring, and freedom of religious belief. In addition, Muslims' unique requirements for diet also make it more difficult for them to get along with other groups. Chinese people generally stress equality and respect for each other and non-interference, but this principle occasionally encounters difficulties when dealing with Muslim groups. These problems lead to prejudice between ordinary people from Muslim and non-Muslim groups, but this prejudice is rooted by mutual ignorance, friction between conservatives and liberals, and differences in customs, rather than racist ideas or historical discrimination. Prejudice is common in China and can easily be eliminated through deepened communication and exchanges. I assure you, there are no issues in China that can be labeled as "discrimination". At the same time, at the national policy level, Muslim groups enjoy the same rights as other ethnic groups and other groups, and even more. The most known is the addition of points in the college entrance examination. I trully understand and agreed these policies, but such policy tilting inevitably deepens prejudice to some extent: Many Han people often ridicule themselves as inferiors. So, say Muslim are not free or safe? Ha, that is completely nonsense. I can cite a example that can be found in the recent news. In the earthquake in Gansu, many local Hui people were affected. All over the country, people sent supplies to the disaster area. Some of the food was not clearly labeled as halal food, such as bread, milk, oil, etc, which caused some local Hui people's dissatisfaction and reject. This incident caused a lot of criticism on the Internet. Many people don't understand the behavior of being picky when facing disasters and lack of food and clothing, but the government did not ignore this issue. The subsequent food was guaranteed to be halal food. In terms of equal treatment of various groups and ethnic groups, the Chinese government has really made the greatest efforts. I want to say a few more. Several years ago, I dating with a man who was born in a Muslim family. He came from a Muslim community town in Yunnan. But he fled from his hometown, working in big city, and completed his university studies. Apart from not eat pork, he has no different from me. He refuse being a Muslim, hated the oppression and conservatism of his family, hates his father's extreme machismo, and sympathizes with his mother and sister at home. He hatred of Muslims so deep, so that I still remember some of his words when he talked about it. Later, I traveled to Turkey for one month. I have been to Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Gaziantep and some other cities and attractions. Although the degree of Muslim openness varies in different regions, the secularized Islam did surprise me. It shines brilliantly in modern art, culture, commerce and other fields, and people are also very open and enthusiastic. Many of the restrictions and requirements I see in domestic Muslim groups are rare in Türkiye, and it is more inclined to self choose. Although mosques are everywhere, the religious atmosphere is not very strong. If have a place similar to Turkey, it may be Xinjiang, where Uighurs who believe in Islam but also very open, but not all Muslim communities in China like this. I have always believed that secularization is a path that Muslims must accept, Good for others and for themselves. Everything needs constant self transformation, Nothing is immutable. impermanence is the norm.
I do think respecting another person's diet and lifestyle is also part of being open and respectful as well....I don't think that having different diets would be an obstacle to form friendships with the other side....sometimes your fears and prejudices might be what really stops that and not the other way around.... obviously they have some restrictions when it comes to marriage and such but I don't think that would matter, people can just be neighbors, friends and other kinds of relationships....as long as both sides respect each other there won't be any issue and these differences and variety of people is what actually makes a nation attractive, culturally rich and good with time
Muslims aren´t xenophobic at all, that´s absolutely wrong. In fact islam is the most ethnically diverse and inclusive religion in the world and very welcoming. Everytime I see foodvlogs of non-muslims in muslim countries they are always treated very kindly and with respect and often they invite them into their homes.
I am not good at reading Chinese, but I can recognize some kanjis from what I know from Japanese. And there were actually several municipal halal signs at restaurants in Beijing when I were there in 2016. I didn't expect to see that, TBH. ...And possibly controversial opinion incoming: The Great Mosque and the surrounding neighborhood in XIan is more interesting than the halls with the terracotta warriors. There; now I said it :-) For a better terracotta experience, go to the City Museum in Xian. Less crowded, and you get to see the statues up close.
I am not a Muslim, but the Hui people are very good at cooking, I'm very like it. Actually one of the most famous "Snack Streets" (小吃街) in Beijing is Niujie which is the biggest Muslim area in Beijing (UA-cam also have many videos about Niujie)
I just came back from Lanzhou with a Muslim and he was shocked to have Halal meals for 3 days at different restuarants. He as a Muslim says its totally different from the main stream media!
Having security cameras in public places is great for all law-abiding citizens. I wish my city had many more in public so that I don't have to be afraid of getting mugged even in public.
RIght , But western media will spin the story and accuse the Chinese government of spying on its citizens and infringing on peoples privacy. When in reality it's a very good tool to combat, deter and solve crime. Maybe the US wouldn't have so many cold cases if they were to install cameras everywhere, and no I'm not talking about to 1980 quality cctv cams 😂
The continuous history of Islam in China is way older than the history of America by some 1000 years There are Mosques still operating in China that date back to early 700AD Some of the largest Mosques are found in China many built recently to accommodate a growing Muslim population. China's Islam is progressive, it was the first country to pioneer female only Mosques and female imams. The legacy of Islam in China is unlike the West where there is always antagonism with Proselytizing Christianty. In China it has always been viewed as a largely peaceful and clean religion. Contrast what's happening in Gaza right now and the enablers of slaughter the US, it's so hypocritical and ironic not to mention downright idiotic for West to still believe in Xinjiang nonsense speed by their media. But they are mostly a monolithic block in the West. They like to believe they are different and open but many there are blind and close minded. Hopefully this new Gen will cut the bullshit.

The lady from Morocco pointed out she was happy to be in China. China has also sent a lot of Medical aid & doctors to Morocco. It is a privilege to be a Muslim in China, they love the Muslim veil!
There is no difference between Muslims and other people in China (except not eating pork and some other small principles). When I was young, I had a neighbor who was a Muslim. I often went to his house to play and eat, and I never asked. What does the sign on his door mean? I didn't even know what a Muslim was at that time. In fact, it was not until my first trip to a Western country that I felt that Muslims were not as perfectly integrated in other countries as in China, which surprised me
Great video. Muslims have lived peacefully in China for thousands of years. There are many famous generals and admirals in China's history of Muslim faith.
My hometown province (Henan) might be the most Chinese place in the world cuz it is central China and tons of Chinese culture originated from the place. And in my hometown there were tons of Muslism people living freely. One of my best friends is Muslisms and I grew up knowing lots of them they are all very nice. There were some history when Hui and Han people having issues but it is all gone. When we go out, we never care what ethnicity or ethnic group you are, and one thing you gotta love China is how many different varieties of food we have. Hui people's food is one of the best!!! They cook the best lamb cuz you know lamb meat could be gamey and nasty if not cooked right, but just ten mins drive away from my home in China there is a place with tons of Hui/Muslism restaurants with only the best lamb soup in the world, I am not kidding. There are over 50 different ethnic groups in China and we all love to know more about each other and enjoy each other's food and culture!

The hard and fast rules to abide by when you are in a country other than yours whether as a tourist or an immigrant is, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”. Do not deviate from it. Do not expect the host country to bend the rules to suit your interest, your culture, your religious inclination or whatever. Every house has its rules, do does a country. Abide by it. Assimilate and it will for certain keep you out of trouble. If you do not like their house rules, go back to where you came from or another country where their culture and customs are in line with your expectations.
My take as an observant Muslim . I think the CCP isn’t targeting Islam the religion or against it. Their target is political and regional cohesion, it is evident cause it’s the same with Tibet. As evil as it may but tough decisions to make the nation unified.
I’m from the USA, and I will explain my honest thoughts on China! China should be a Hindu-Sikh-majority country instead because many Chinese people don’t eat a lot of cow meat and cows are a sacred god in Hindu beliefs. Chinese emperors had big beards and Sikh men have big beards. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism also traveled far east to China. Because of all of this China should be abundant with Hindu temples and Gurdwaras. So, there you have it, in conclusion, a Chinese emperor should’ve converted all of China to Hinduism and Sikhism in ancient times! Waheguru, Waheguru Ji! 🇨🇳🕉️🪯.

They feel SAFER that there are police security cameras!
Most people in China believe that places with surveillance cameras are safe because they can retain any criminal evidence and allow any illegal behavior to be quickly punished.
you know, in china, police always means HELP not TROUBLE.
unlike in US,where police always empty their magazines@@dionydonny
I love your open mindnesses Willene! Wishing you a wonderful 2024 😊
Thank you so much LW! I’m always grateful for your support and encouragement! Happy new year to you!🎊😊
It must be admitted that Muslim groups (not all, many Muslims have no different with others and never flaunt their faith) such as the Hui ethnic group are generally considered to be relatively xenophobic and conservative in China.

Exactly!
There; now I said it :-)
For a better terracotta experience, go to the City Museum in Xian. Less crowded, and you get to see the statues up close.
Realy glad that more and more people speak for China.
I’m Shanghainese, but I have never been to that mosque. But I love Muslim food near the mosque. It’s so authentic.
Thanks mate for sharing these to the world.
No problem 👍
Thank you Willene for showing people the truth and educating people who hasn't been to China.
Brilliant ❤️ love Muslim people. They are some of the most hospitable people in the world.
Exactly bro! They welcomed me with open arms despite the fact that I wasn’t even Muslim. Very friendly community!

Big Brother has brainwashed you.
In fact, Singapore has more cameras, which have brought a lower crime rate to Singapore. Western media will never reports this.
There are lots of muslims in china, my muslim teacher went to china and she says it’s lovely
Nice vlog Willene😅, thanks for showing us around
My pleasure 😊
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!🙏🏾😊
The continuous history of Islam in China is way older than the history of America by some 1000 years
There are Mosques still operating in China that date back to early 700AD
Some of the largest Mosques are found in China many built recently to accommodate a growing Muslim population.

What a sweet young lady! 加油,我来了 made me giggle! Shenyang has a huge Muslim community. We have a Muslim street and mosque as well. Around every corner you can find the Lanzhou noodles or xinjiang bbq restaurant. Many of my friends are Muslims and the universities have largr numbers of Muslim students.

After watching your video I am having second thoughts about the picture painted by the western media about China.

If anyone look at all the Pro-Palestine protest recent months with crowds as large as several hundred thousand people, none of them turn violent. As for western world protest with just a few thousand, it becomes really chaotic. This tells a lot about Muslim people. To world peace!
I lived in Shanghai and I used to go to that masjid on Fridays and Sundays. My favorite food from the Friday market is uyghur lamb pilaf which I've learned to make by myself. Your video brings back memories, thank you 😊

China is a most racially tolerant society, coexisted with 56 plus ethnic minorities & promoting their cultures throughout her history & open to welcome other races across the world. The lady from Morocco pointed out she was happy to be in China.
China has also sent a lot of Medical aid & doctors to Morocco. It is a privilege to be a Muslim in China, they love the Muslim veil!
I love China. Been there many times. The best part of China is its magnificient landscape and yes safe too.
I am Chinese but only been in China as a tourist for 1week in my entire life. Interestingly. I travel to Morocco more often cos I live in Europe
Muslims came into China during Tang dynasty at around 700 AD. Many have lived all over China since then. Muslims in China is not a recent development.
It's good to get out from our comfort zone and venture into China to feel the difference

Islam is one of the five most influential religions in China.I do not profess any religion myself, but I respect believers, my friends and the policies of the place where I live, and respect anyone who believes in any religion
I used to live 2 mins walk from this mosque! It's a pity the local government still hasn't reinstated the popular Muslim street market that popped up here every Friday after it was cancelled during covid.

China has the best religion policy - people has freedom to choose religion but missionary work is prohibited in public.
Great video! It’s absolutely not an issue of religion, but separation/independence movements by Uighurs making Muslim a sensitive topic. In other parts of China, there is no problem to be a Muslim.
there is a Muslim community near my apartment in Beijing. we quite frequently go there and buy Muslim food. actually, many well-known Beijing restaurants are Muslim restaurants.

There are. Very many Muslims across China. 😊

Most Chinese people actually don't care race, religion …,it's just part of the diverse culture.
