    Hi, Ben, I hope your day’s going well.
    I have been fighting with a 39 gallon tank which was cycled and doing well for a while, but for the past couple months keeps reading for high ammonia and nitrite. I had had a huge Java Fern that died, which I suspect was the start of my issues. I have a couple of Sicce Shark PROs, one 900 and one 700, even though I have been adding Fritzyme 7 or Stability daily, but I wondered if cleaning the sponges in aquarium water then soaking them in good bacteria would convince it to cycle. I did that with just the 900. Finally, SUCCESS!!! I tested the water this morning, and Ammonia and Nitrite are both at zero, and Nitrate is at about 10. Thank you for the inspiration, I truly appreciate it! 😊

    I got the Sicce 90 after your review and I like using the spray bar feature since I’ve already got a power head in my tank for circulation. One thing to note, I found out that it’s best to lower the filter into your tank when doing water changes as it will just sink because of the weight of the 3 filter boxes. No big deal to me but it might come as a surprise to others. My Sicce is new so it doesn’t really need cleaning yet but so far I love it. It’s easy to use and virtually silen.

    I always clean the sponges etc in a bucket with the removed aquarium water by squeezing the sponges in the old aquarium water rather than running under a tap for an extended period and this method gets everything just as clean. Obviously this is best for my setup as I don't use external and just and eheim internal, was looking to move to the Sicce 900. Thanks for the upload.

    Hi Ben! You’re a good teacher, thanks for your videos! My cousin gave me his old Marineland 56 column tank, 30w/18d/24h. Current filter is a Marineland 360 canister which works okay, but for how much it messes with my back, the water quality doesn’t amaze me enough to keep it. With this shape tank, do you think the shark 900 version would do a decent job? I also run an Aquarium Co-op sponge filter just for aeration and to give shrimps something extra to munch on. I’m just worried I wouldn’t get enough water circulation because with the canister I have now I made a diy spray bar that runs the length of the tank so…? Any advice would be appreciated- thanks! 😊 (This is my first larger tank, so new to the bigger filters.)

    Thanks for showing a filter that's actually been used. I'm pretty skeptical of the design of this filter. The magnetic connectors are pretty nice, but it really doesn't seem it's using the filter media efficiently(as you can see in the video). Overall it seems like a decent filter, but not worth the price IMO. You're probably mostly paying for the magnets and the slick design.

      That’s basically the same thing I’m about to do. 55 gallon with the tidal 110 and looking to get the shark adv 900 pro. Right now I have the marineland internal filter and that thing sucks and starts making all sorts of crazy noises after just 2-3 days of cleaning every single part and piece. It’s just a hassle always having to clean it and defeats the whole purpose of media and having bacteria grow on it. Having to clean so frequently just is counterintuitive. I will most likely buy this today. Hopefully the pump and pushing power is strong and can circulate throughout my entire 55 gallon tank.

    Good video, can you please advise how often you are having to clean the foam filters before they get blocked or slow water flow..especially if clogging that small corner of the blue filter when the large remainder of the blue filter is clean, seems a design issue/fault?

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому

      Probably related to my running the filter at a low medium setting.
      When the bubbles seem to slow down it’s time for a cleaning. How long that takes depends on how heavily stocked the tank is and how much you feed.

    Our water in TN really is some of the best in the country. We can almost get 100% away with using our tap straight from the faucet for tanks. I usually let mine sit for a few days with circulation then add my fish. I love Prime for conditinong water when time does not permit me to let it sit. I am glad to see you run the tap with low water while cleaning the filter. No matter if the water is scare or surplus one must always consider saving water. #Savewater

    • @BenOchart
      @BenOchart  2 роки тому +1

      An ability to run at low wattage might also mean that the product was very well engineered and is very efficient in it's movements. It also means that the filters will not be adding heat to the water which can be an issue in hotter parts of the world.

People get different results but I honestly believe that really DOES play a role in how well the fish look. For instance the bleekeri ranges I’ve seen from low to high for hardness and it’s confusing. Some say because they’re from Madagascar they’re an African and they tolerate high hardness like using the crushed coral. But some also use sand which is inert and I have hard water straight from tap. But the quality of color I’ve had has always come from closer matching where they come from. But some speak because they’re tank bread it doesn’t matter. Or even to adjust to ph and hardness levels for the fish it takes months. Any clarity on any of this ?

      Figured that one out, thanks. The only magnets I had a real issue with are the ones holding the compartments together. They can come loose when the media is heavy with water and the filter housing crashes on the ground 🤷🏼‍♂️

    That filter is way to small for a 55. Try the 900

      The tank is split with a divider and there’s a Marineland Emperor 400 on the other side

    Way too bulky for the amount of sponges it can fit...

    Wish it had a dedicated spot for bio media. That is the only con I see.

      The middle sponge can be pulled out and replaced with media but the truth is that sponges are a great home for beneficial bacteria. The 700 or 900 would be better choices if you absolutely must have Bio media.
