Hey Brian, I notice that at the end of making the 9-10 wraps around the tipped and line, you came up through the loop instead of down which would have resulted in parallel tippet at the end... is there a difference or benefit in your method
Noticed that too. I've always tied it back down through the same path it came up through to start. Doesn't seem like it would matter. This is a great knot to tie your backing to your fly line too. You can use the factory loop directly. It's also great for tying a butt end of a leader to the fly line loop (creates a small, strong, smooth knot). Obviously it works with a factory loop or your own doubled over loopless fly line.
Carlos- you need to match the line to the rod. Otherwise, the rod won't perform properly. 8wt is a bit heavy for most trout fishing regardless. You can call the shop if you need to discuss and they will be happy to help. 614-451-0363.
Seems like a uni knot is reminiscent of a stopper hitch on a rope, can you use a basic sense not from braid to mono with a swivel or will it cut into itself
You certainly can but it tends to be a bit big and can catch on the guides.....that is if there is a chance that you get to the backing. We typically use nail knots for freshwater fishing and a bimini twist to a loop for saltwater or big game.
Love the Albright knot! Question: could you/would you substitute the Albright for the Blood knot in leader typing? I ask because I am terrible at tying a blood knot, especially on the water, but I find the Albright simple. Any downside to doing so? Thanks. You guys are great!
You can, the blood knot might be technically better, but the knot you tie the best is always the best. I have experimented with this just to see and I reccomend 8 to 10 wraps for fluoro or nylon connections.
Thankyou! For some reason this is the only tutorial that ended up successful for me..
Thanks for being here.
Thank you for the easy tutorial!
Thanks for watching.
Fantastic video. I actually prefer tying this on my dry fly set up over the snell or nail knot.
Thanks for watching.
Great tip! Thank you for sharing.

I had learned the Albright knot for connecting backing to the fly line. is there a different knot you use for that purpose?
You certainly can but it tends to be a bit big and can catch on the guides.....that is if there is a chance that you get to the backing. We typically use nail knots for freshwater fishing and a bimini twist to a loop for saltwater or big game.
Mad River Outfitters what do you do for the Bimini twist if your fly line doesn’t have a welded loop on the back?
This knot I have no problem with. Can I just use it to make my leaders and attach to my fly line?
Please contact the shop directly with your questions and they will be happy to help. Thanks.

D Carlson unfortunately the blood knot is better sans attaching bite or shock tippet.

Great 👍
Thanks for watching.
Does this work well if you need to re tie your fly line without a loop to your leader?
Not recommended. Do this instead:
