This video was super helpful and one of the best videos I've come across to what I think I would also pack. I'm hoping to go on my first backpacking trip next year! I also watched your other video. I'm also 22 years old (from Canada) and I just finished university and am going to start a full time job as a nurse and hope to take time off next year to backpack (I think I would go solo as well - but I'm really nervous). Excited to see more videos of your experience :)
I don’t think I’ll be doing a full video on it but overall I’m really happy with my packing! Some of the clothing items were swapped out throughout the trip and I eventually got rid of my snorkel and flip flops as well (as I was ending my trip in countries where they wouldn’t come to use)
Loved your video!! I’m backpacking with the same backpack as you, osprey 40 l, a bum bag and a smaller day bag. Basically brought the exact same things as you too! I’m sure you’ll have a great trip 😁 I’ve been backpacking now for 9 months continuously and this setup worked great for me in Asia and Australia as well!
That’s awesome! I’m currently back from my 7month trip (decided to edit and upload everything afterwards) and I feel like the setup worked great for my trip as well 👌🏽 I hope you’re having a good time backpacking, I’m dying to get back out there again 🥰
@@Neda_lindberg Ahh smart, I’m editing as I go because I know I will be too lazy to do it afterwards, and I’ll just have too much footage 😅 awesome though, glad to hear you had a great experience. I feel once you get hooked it’s kinda hard to imagine living a normal life again! Hope there’s more traveling in your future soon 😁
@@westcoastwildchild92 Completely understand that! My pile of footage is pretty big right now 😂 there will definitely be more traveling in the future 🥳
I’m glad you liked the video! 🥰 I feel like I did really well with my packing and there wasn’t anything in particular that I wish I’d packed. The silk liner was probably my only real regret for this trip since I only ended up using it a handful of times. For the last 1,5 months of my trip I ended up getting rid of some things, such as my snorkel, flip flops and rain jacket, since I was going to places where I wouldn’t be needing those things anymore. I also switched out a few of the clothing items along the way, when I found other things that I was more excited about buying, wearing and bringing with me 😊
No, it allowed one carry on bag and one personal item. I believe they didn’t really count the bumbag as a personal item since it was quite small and on me at all times. The airlines I went with also didn’t seem super strict, as they never even weighed my bags.
Hahah looks like we’re all sort of in the same boat before any big trip 😂 I’m sure you’ll do great! Good luck with your solo adventures and safe travels
Here in Sweden we have a lot of different photo booths and shops where you can get that done. I think I payed around $30 for 5-6 copies but I will say, I didn’t end up using a single one of them… 😂 I think it really depends on what countries you’re going to and what the visa process is like there.
Thank you for this video! I just bought 3 of these for our fam of 5 for SE Asia. 👌our younger two will carry 20L bags. Did you have any probs using the 40L as carry-on on cheaper airlines (like Air asia)?
Yay! Would definitely recommend it! 😍 I decided on not bringing my laptop and just piled all the footage for future me to deal with 😂 I did this trip from the end of 2022 to the middle of 2023 and I’m editing and releasing all of these videos now that I’m back from the trip 😊
They were both allowed with the planes I took. I had my 40L backpack as my carry on in the overhead compartment and the smaller backpack as my personal item under the seat in front of me 😊
The osprey backpack ended up weighing 10kg, which is a bit more than what is usually allowed for carry on luggage. I unfortunately don’t remember how much the smaller backpack weighed, but I never ran into any issues with any of it. The bag looks very compact and fit nicely into all the overhead compartments of the flights I took. I wore it with confidence and without seeming bothered about the weight of it, and I also did all of my check ins online which meant I could just go straight to the boarding gates at the airport without having to stop by the check in stations where they usually would weigh the luggage 😊
I'm preparing for a backpacking trip, so it was really useful! Did you take the plane in-between the south east asian coutries? Was the weight of your bags an issue, did yo have to check them in, or it was ok as carry ons?
That’s so exciting! I’m glad the video helped 😊 I did take a few flights between some of the countries but never had any issues with my bags. I brought them as carry on only and always did my check-in online. Luckily I was never asked to weigh the bags 😂👌🏽
Usually not, but my 40L backpack was my carry on that I put in the overhead compartment and my smaller backpack counted as my personal item that I put under the seat in front of me. This also depends on the airline though; sometimes you’re not allowed to bring a personal item and in that case I would only have been allowed ONE bag on the plane
I intend to wear my coat (the down jacket that I shoved into the small drawstring bag) during my travel day, so that’s why I never put it into the bag, but when I wasn’t wearing it I just attached the drawstring bag to one of the carabiners on the outside of my backpack 😊 The dry bag is 10L and I feel like that was the perfect size! Regarding the international DL; since my regular DL is in Swedish it’s not valid in every country, and especially not once you start traveling outside of Europe. The international DL (that you have to get from a certain place) is basically just an English translation of my Swedish DL, that I have to keep with me and be able to present in addition to my regular Swedish DL, for it to be valid in certain countries. Hope that explanation made sense 😂😊

What is your budget for 7 months backpacking? Heading to South East Asia soon myself, with NO plan for how long or where to go other then Bali as my first destination😅
I spent roughly 14.000 euros but did also go to some of the “more expensive countries” such as Australia, Japan and South Korea. It’s hard to give a good suggestion on a budget since it all obviously depends on the destination and personal style of travel. I will however be doing a full video on this later on with a complete breakdown of how much I spent in each country and what the money went towards (accommodation, transportation, and so on). Good luck with your trip. I’m sure you’re gonna have a blast! 🥳

Your ticket allows your back pack plus two personal items? Normally the airlines allows only one in flights. Have a good trip!

Usually if you choose a ticket with only a carry on, you have to pay for your aditional personal item. Latam, Iberia and others.
