Something I'd really like to be able to do is similar to the Ableton/Pro Tools workflow, where I select a track, and my faders would control the next 8 tracks volume. Then I could select another track and again keep controlling a bank of 8.
Great video, I have a AKAI APC40mkII, and now I know to configure the knobs, faders and a lot of plugins to load into Reaper, thank you very much, again!! You really make life much easier Kenny.
This is a really useful video and tutorial Kenny as always. Would it be possible to do an in-depth video on the use of Control Surfaces like the Behringer XTouch One and customizing controls with Reaper.
Is it so difficult to implement , that Reaper sends the values to the Controller? Everytime i switch to another Plugin the set values jump. (Aus it does at 8:53)
Thanks Kenny ! Question : Is there a way to modify the Mackie protocol to map a controller ? I use an SSL Uf8, it work well with Reaper in Logic mode and Mackie implementation, but I need the ability to enter in "plugin" mode in order that the knobs and faders does not move when I tweak them on the UF8 with an Fx focused.. I don't know if it is clear. Also the knobs jumps in value, not very easy to use. Do use think an Ipad with the ToucOSC will be the solution for me ? In this case it could do everything and I will simply sell the UF8. Thank you.
Hello Kenny! Thanks for your marvelous tutorial. I just bought Reaper to migrate from Cubase during one year. I try to connect the Akai Midix to ReaEq. That works half half. The first thing I discover is that when I type "learn" or "Learn" in Action. I tried also with the french word "Apprendre"... the same. Could you light me please? Thanks you
Great video, thanks! I just bought the NK2 so this was very helpful!! Can you pls explain the difference between selecting "focused" vs "visible" in the Learn menu?? The manual (12.16) lumps them both together. And I guess not all plug-ins have the "Last Touch/Learn" option? I have several which don't seem to have this feature. Is it only those provided by Cockos or is it just "some do, some don't"??
Hi Kenny, great stuff like always, btw. I bought Reaper because of your great vids! However I am struggling with this one - I recently got an nanoKONTROL2 and started to set the controllers for ReaComp as demonstrated in this video. However I messed up and did not follow all the steps in the video and did not save it to a SignalChain. Now when trying to assign controllers to parameters everything works as describerd BUT the controller does not move any faders in any PlugIn anymore - do you have any hint how to troubleshoot this? Is there any way to view/edit/reset all the controller assignments for each plugin? Am grateful for any hints, thanks Stefan
I am trying to make my Nano controller control plugins but I'm wanting to leave the first fader and pan for selected track. I cannot find a way to do soft touch option for the Reaper tracks for volume and Pan Is there a way to do this?
Hi Kenny, I'm trying to find your video on the PreSonus Faderport controller that you did. Is this the controller you personally use in your studio? Thanks Eric
Awesome! Is there a way to use the midi controller to change focus to the "next" plugin in the chain? Or jump one plugin orward/backward? That way you wouldn't even need a mouse/keyboard. My plan is to only have one track and fx chain but I want to be "handsfree"
@@pierre-claudemeriot6562 awesome that's what I wanted to know. I don't have a controller yet, truth is I really want to build one myself using an arduino project.
@@pierre-claudemeriot6562 This video is freaking amazing, thank you so much! you can pretty much do anything via midi controller. I only need like 5% of this and it would be great. Reaper never stops to amaze me haha
So if you're using something like the faders on the Kontrol for performance purposes like control of dynamics you would check the box that says 'Enable only when track is selected', right? Would you do anything else differently in the settings compared to this video? thanks
Bought this Korg controller years ago. I cannot get this nanokontrol to work in Reaper, tried everything I can think of! The play and stop buttons work but the faders and knobs do nothing!
I'm using a Keylab Essential with Reaper. The Analog Lab function works perfectly inside of Arturia software, both standalone and as VSTs. The DAW function works perfectly as a Mackie Control Surface. What I'd like to do is to set up a User Map to control plugins inside of Reaper. But when I do this, Reaper does not recognize the CC inputs. I'm sure there's some setting I'm missing somewhere. Anyone have any ideas?
If I have my nanoKontrol set up as a Mackie Control Surface (Klinke), can I set this up with "only when effect config is in focus" and it will control the plugin when the plugin is in focus and then go back to the regular control surface when it's not? Or would I need a separate piece of gear for that?
I thought about this but if you have it set up to do faders and pans, they're still going to work while you adjust the plugins. You could set it up to only work on a selected track but that's just one track. So I would play around with it but I'm not sure it will be possible. But report back. Thanks
@@REAPERMania Yes, you were right. It still moves the faders. If I hooked up a different MIDI controller would it understand that input as a separate input that I could dedicate to this technique? I'd love to be able to do both. Thanks for your help!
@@rhythmjones I'm not 100% but it should work. REAPER should see them as two different units. Just make sure you set one of them up as a controller in the control preferences but no the other. And set the other one up to just send CC messages. Not be a controller. Good luck.
This is a great question. Some time ago I had to reformat by DAW laptop and forgot to backup, or note the configuration steps options for Mackie Control Surface (Klinke) for use with the Korg nanocontrol as a controller for the mixer - which is a good fit use case for obvious reasons. However, I used to use the Korg controller transport buttons mainly in the past, but recently have moved to using the web app for Reaper transport controls on my smartphone, as that is a more portable (wireless) solution for a one man home studio. I'm now inspired to have a play to see the best combination of controller/web app combinations. Thanks Matt and Kenny.
I feel as if Christopher Walken is explaining reaper. Great job Chris!
I have one of these. I will have a go at this. Thanks Kenny!

Yes, this would be great.
I agree
This should be possible with realearn afaik.
@@empinchen it's extremely tricky with ReaLearn but I asked the developer for a patch and he put it in! Will do a tutorial on it soon!
Exactly what I've been looking for. Thx

watching this to sync Akai Midimix. Reaper is Awesome. thank you Jesus.
I love your opening music. I have heard it a lot before, but this time, it really hit me. You have a link?
I just figured out how to set up, stream deck + as a midi controller....Awesome!
Thanks 👍

It depends on the amount of pads your controller has.
You can assign toggle fx focus action to a pad
