@30:19 I remember that night (like it was last night) when JMJ and Marley Cut up their name's off of the Record's they made while rocking the instrumental of Rock box. I very very proud moment for me as an up and coming Dj, Emcee and soon to be producer. I was extremely fortunate to have set in several recording session's with Marley patiently waiting to ask him questions about the mixing board (SSL) why he panned certain knobs to the left and right (I knew stereo but didn't know how it was created) he was very patient in explaining the process among many other questions I had pertaining to production and mixing. Thank you #JayHistorian for this much needed video........ On a side note, I answered phones at WHBI - WNWK for The DNA - HANK LOVE & Awesome 2 radio shows. If I wasn't answering the phone's, I'd come by the radio station after hitting a few club's. Great day's that I wish I could bring back....... (I'm grateful for all of the memories)

That part at 38 minutes is one of the most important moments in the history of hip hop. I cant imagine Mr. Magic ending in 1984. Wow. Thanks to them for standing firm.

Fly TY always has a lot of good stories and information in his interviews. To bad Mr.Magic passed away He would have been a great person to interview. I hear Magic was crazy and had no filter kept it 100% raw.

Love that the truth is being told onHip Hop’s origins by someone that was there in the early 70’s, not the 80’s and after!
We gotta listen to these people more, and not just people who came after, speak, they tend to get a lot wrong, but they are so boastful you might actually believe their nonsense

Listened to Mr.Magic, and The World Famous Supreme Team Show ( C'Divine The Mastermind and Just Allah The Superstar) on WHBI..i. Think it was 105.9...Those guys set it off on the radio.Sat/Sunday about 1am-5am.
But the 1st rapper to have his own radio show was Eddie Cheeba. It used to come on Saturday morning about 10am on one of the low #s on the dial like 89.1 or 90.3.Cheeba is one of the early MCs you don't hear much about.

I know Mr.Magic did alot to push this art form ahead, being a visionary etc.But I've always had one question: Why did he try to cause drama with Red Alert, BDP by causing alot of animosity, name calling.I remember you couldn't hear a BDP rap or anything Red Alert related on ' BLS and of course in turn Red Alert ( Kiss-FM) didn't play any Juice Crew/ Cold Chillin' ....I remember going back and forth on the dial just to hear the latest BDP or Juice Crew stuff or just listen to Red on Friday and Marley on Saturday. But I think if MCs/ crews had a different mindset back then, there could've been alot of bloodshed.Im just glad cats were more about their lyrics back then.Back then it was about the competition and your lyrics/ words were your bullets. Can you imagine somebody doing " South Bronx" or " The Bridge is Over" today? Somebody would've gotten seriously hurt or killed. From the bottom of my heart.Real shutouts to KRS-ONE and MC Shan ( especially Shan) and QB as a whole for taking those blows back then. Now both men and others are in their 50s and not statistics because they were all in their feelings or just plain SOFT.That was the true essence of rap/ hip hop.You diss me, I'm gonna come back harder. While I'm praising Shan and Kris, I wanna praise Kool Moe Dee and L.L.as well for keeping the battle lyrically and living to be in their 50s as well. But Jayquan if you ever speak or do another interview with Fly Ty, please ask if he had any insight to why Magic" instigated " static between the crews and the potential for lives being lost unnecessarily.I know Magic dissed BDP when they came to him with their demo, but was there more to the animosity?

Stop it. Rev Al Sharpton helped a lot of people. Police brutality in NYC ain't anywhere at the level it was back in the days thanks to black activists like Rev Sharpton and others
