- Jimmy and I bought an abandoned house in Northern Maine last year - today we sit down and share with you the story of how it came to be. At first I wasn't too keen on the idea, but a lot has changed since we first saw it. This is the first of many future videos that will follow our progress to making this abandoned house our home.

We bought a property, 30 minutes from our current home, we turned it into a camping area, we have a bunkhouse, that we have been really working on the last 5 year's, we owned it now 20 year's this year, we have the Woodlands, and down the hill the Bay, it's the best of both worlds ❤😊
So awesome! ❤️
Well, you two wonderful people have your work cut out for you, but I totally envy you! What a lovely adventure! I am 81, live in a condo, and no longer can no longer consider taking on such a project; therefore, I will enjoy the fruits of your labor virtually as you help this little gem of a house to go through its metamorphasis...BTW, I am the "maman" to the "poupée" that you sold me...she travels around my house, and you never know where she will show up ... she currently is lounging on the TV equipment in front of me! 😄
Welcome to Maine! We moved to the midcoast from Maryland almost 40 years ago and have never regretted it. It's a unique and special state for sure. Our house is about 180 years old now and we are only the 4th owners! It's challenging at times but so worth it. Having a reliable person to help is so amazing. Many of the contractors, plumbers, electricians here are so busy it can be hard to get work done. My husband plows snow in winter for 40 plus customers. We laugh about going from a shovel and progressing to a plow, same with our lawn mowers, heaters, generators, etc. Lol. As is happening everywhere, weather is changing and damaging storms are more frequent. A generator is a must these days!
That's awesome! Thank you for sharing your story 💜
Jimmy is so excited to let everyone know what you have and done. Enjoy it
I have just bought an abandoned house too!
Must-have it two weeks!
It's a stone house with a river at the end of the garden going right across it very picturesque
I have some work to do to it...
But it's watertight!!!!
That is awesome! ❤️
So happy for you! We live in Western Maine but I work for the state and am in Aroostook county all the time. No matter where you live in Maine there is beauty! Welcome home. We also bought an abandoned farm house on 20 acres. 30 years later… we are still working on it!
This is a whole new youtube channel idea. Remodeling channels are sooooo popular. To me anyway :). Flying Pig Homestead. Instant success! Most, if not all of your followers would follow both. Some of my favs. Vanwives, SimpleLivingAlaska, TheNewbys
So true! 💜
Welcome to Northern Maine. We lived in Carlisle Pa for
30 plus years. We bought a small 1 room cabin in Island Falls Maine. We live in Maine now. Simple, quiet and woods surround us. It’s a beautiful place to live. Since living here we have added on many rooms. Best wishes to you all.
That's awesome and thank you for well wishes...more to come! 💙
@@elizabethleach5069 I too live in island falls! It’s pretty great!
Oh my goodness! Can’t decide if I’m envious or… thinking you’re nuts. 🤭 But the journey will definitely be fun-both to watch and for you to undergo!
And it’s fun to see how excited Jimmy is already.
Lol!
Sounds good, Hope everything goes smoothly for you guys
Is he excited or what ?🤣! So sweet! How wonderful for y’all. ♥️
Thank you 💙
It is good to see you so excited about this new venture. Thanks for letting us follow along.
Thank you for all your support Karen 💙
So happy for you all. The Ball jars are made in my state Indiana. The one with the wire bale takes a glass lid. The big one with the measurements is a newer jar. My best friend's mother was the operator at the Ball plant in the 60's.
If that front vestibule paneling is in good shape I’d keep it! Your stove is like the one I had in my first apartment! Many moons ago! It was gas - lived it!
Also put down a vapor barrier on that dirt floor! Radon is a real thing!
Welcome to Aroostook! I’m in Northern Maine as well. About an hour north of Houlton. Raised in southern Maine , grateful to be in the quiet of Northern Me. Enjoy. Stephanie
Thank you Stephanie ❤️ We are super excited about this project. More to come!!!!
I too moved years ago because where I grew up was getting so busy and overcrowded. Love the simple life I have now. It changes the outlook on life and yourself I think.
That's a great point and we feel the same way 🧡
Looking forward to seeing this chapter of your life’s lv Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much Ann ❤️
OMG! What a fun adventure! You two are too cute! My husband and I would not survive such an adventure! Is it OK to live vicariously through your venture? Look forward to watching. This is stinking awesome!!!!
Nicole Curtis (The Rehab Addict) redid her grandparents house a few years ago. The hunting scene paneling was in their family room!
Congrats on the new house and looking forward to the videos
❤❤❤
Even when I was much younger, I had little interest in such huge diy projects as restoring an old house nor was I married to someone who had an interest or passion for such things. But because I was often fascinated by what goes into restoring old homes, though, I watched "This Old House" and then later other shows on HGTV for restoring/redoing/remodeling houses, both DIY & by professional contractors. I'm sure you already know what you're looking at....tons of work, lots of cash layout for supplies and not always a small amount of stress. But once it's done or you're well on your way...and if you're not trying to live in it while the work's being done, I'm sure it will be something you can be so proud of. I know I've sounded like a "Debbie Downer," but for those who are up for it, I'm sure it can be immensely satisfying. Best of luck to you both on this home restoring journey!
Thank you for the kind words Nancy 💙
Welcome to Maine 😊 We live in Piscataquis County, moved here 12 years ago and absolutely love the peace and quiet 😊
Congratulations Jimmy, Dagny, Jenny and the fur babies. So happy for you all. Look forward to the progress and eventually starting your new adventure. Congratulations again.
This is So cool! All that paneling is how my house was. Paint makes a huge difference. I love that knotty pine kitchen with that stove. People collect them now. Best wishes.
i lived my whole life in PA except for the 8 years we bought a coastal house in Searsport, Maine. It is a wonderful place to live and we have wonderful memories of those years there. We moved back to PA when grandbabies were coming, etc. That looks like quite an adventure for your family.
Searsport is lovely
So exciting. Ironically my college roommate grew up in Maine & now lives in PA, near Carlisle.
SO excited for you Dagny, Jimmy and Jenny!! My husband and I brought an old homestead house when we were in our 30's . (we are way older now) We had 3 small children and they have the best memories of that place. The house you brought looks way better than ours did. When we would run into a hard place working on it, we would just pray together and someone would show up to help us go a little further on. We are so thankful for those memories. God bless you in your new adventure! You will do great! 💓
Thank you for the kind words Michelle 💙
So happy for you! It seems like a fun project!
Congrats! I can’t wait to see the entire renovation on this.
Congratulations! I love your excitement. You’re both beaming. Can’t wait to see your progress ❤️
You will make so many memories here. Can't wait to follow your journey. Happy thrifting. 😊
I wish you health and strength to enjoy your new adventure! You have a vision and are taking steps to make it happen. Congratulations!
Welcome to Maine! I hope that your new adventures in "the county" are fun and creative. I currently live in the Portland area, but lived in the Bangor area for about 20 years.
So happy for you! What a lovely couple.
Thank you 🧡
You have more energy than I have these days. Plus, I’m from New Hampshire all my life until we retire. We are now a bit south. Very mild winters. I love Maine in summer but winters are just to cold for me.
I am so glad for the two of you can’t wait for more videos on the progress ❤❤❤
Oh, your new property sounds like such a wonderful adventure for all of you!! Congratulations and enjoy every moment!!
So exciting! What a sweet old home. It will be so great to wake up in the morning and make breakfast in that cute kitchen.
It really is! 💙
I cant keep up with your excitement and correcting each other. Have fun
Congrats and welcome to Maine! Lots of great thrift stores around the state!
Thank you!! 😊
Fantastic so happy for you both. I can’t wait to see what you’ve done 🏠 😀
You are living my dream!! God bless you and keep you safe and happy! Hugs ❤

Hi George! Looking forward to the day I can welcome you into our Maine home! Continued safe travels my friend!!
Congratulations, Dagny, Jenny & Jimmy! May you enjoy a long & happy life in Maine! Can't wait to see your adventures!
Thank you so much! 💜
I grew up around Shin Pond ! I went to Katahdin High School :) I am so happy for you - it’s a great place to grow up. Winter can be rough :) get used to calling Aroostook “the county”
How exciting for you! And wise to do such an adventure while you’re young. I’m 71 in Wisconsin and still hope to visit Maine some day. I love the looks of it and the people seem down to earth. Except maybe Stephen King, he’s a bit quirky! But I do like his novels! 😅
Super happy for you all! I hope your journey is as enjoyable as the final destination ... thx for always sharing. You're the best 😊💛
Thanks so much!! 💙
So exciting. Looking forward to this journey of yours
Congratulations to you and your clan!! Can't wait to see more. 👀👀
Congratulations Dagny! I’m in neighboring New Hampshire, and New England is a special place. Welcome! Can’t wait to see the progress videos. Thanks for sharing this exciting life event with your followers.
I live in northern Maine too. In fact close to shin pond village. Moved here in 2009. Love the area!
That is a beautiful area and Shin Pond is a wonderful campground 💙
That’s fantastic Dagny. So happy for you. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Congrats Dagney, Jimmy, Jenny!! how exciting your new house in Maine!! If you didn't throw away the wall paper, Keep a small square of each to make small framed work as keeping the story of the house. I learned that from Benita Larson, she has a UA-cam channel and did that with an old house she bought in the country side. Would love to see the progress as it goes.
Great idea!! 🧡
😅
Lol...Jimmy is so giddy!
I am so jealous! I was born in Pennsylvania and I love it but was raised in florida along with my sister and two brothers. My grandparents started taking me to Maine when I was 11 and now I’m 78. Both my brothers have property in Maine now. My one brother lives full time and bought an old farmhouse with 115 acres and is in Patton. My other brother has a few acres on the coast and they just vacation there. Maine is my favorite state and I’m so excited for you and will enjoy watching your journey. I also love your thrifting videos. They are very relaxing and peaceful to watch! Bless you and your family!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story Susan and thank you for supporting my channel...more to come! 💙
Oh your little Bear is so adorable 😊 I’ve always wanted to see Maine especially all the lighthouse she’s,lakes, ocean. I’ll be watching ! 😊👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻
Best of luck with all your renovations
I am so excited to start this journey with your family. I have followed CLL for years and that was how I found you, when this popped up tonight I thought this would be so interesting to see all the progress you are making from beginning to end.i look forward to your next video!
My husband and I just purchased 52 forest acres in the Upper Peninsula Michigan by Saint Ignace! We’ve been working on the land for a few months. We are in heaven!
That is so awesome! Is that near Houghton?
@@FlyingPigThrifts no it’s not close. We are by the famous Mackinac Bridge.
So happy for you! We live in Western Maine but I work for the state and am in Aroostook county all the time. No matter where you live in Maine there is beauty! Welcome home.
My husband is from Old Orchard Beach, Maine!! If you guys need to take a break and like lighthouses, there are several around the Portland area you can check out like Portland Lighthouse, Nubble Light and Two Lights state park! Congrats on your new adventure and look forward to your new series!!
So close! Now you will have less travel time to come to PEI!! Saweet! lol So happy for you, a project that is a lot of work but will also be so rewarding. Congrats to you all!
So happy for y'all🎉. I wanted to do something similar but life happened and we are past the age for that adventure.
I was at Rhinebeck in 2018 too! Subscribed! I better see some knitting in between renovations....lol. You're going to love Maine. Hope you love seafood. Vermonter here.
Thank you for the support ❤️
How awesome for your family, Dagny ❤️🥰
Your basement would be a good vegetable larder good luck and congratulations 🎉
Have you spent a winter in Maine yet? It can get interesting, but I think you’re both made of the “right stuff!’ That was always a project time for me as a native New Englander.
Yeah.visiting Maine and living in Maine are very different. I am also a New Englander (NH) its long cold winters. Way up there isnt much. Hopefully Jenny will find oppurtunities other then Walmart.
Wow! How exciting for the 3 of you!! Enjoy the adventure.
Welcome to Maine!.....the way life should be. 🙂
The house is an oldie. Can't wait to see what you've done with her. 🙂
Happy and excited to see everything goes!
How exciting for all of you
The metal latches on your canning jars are called bails 🙂 looking forward to seeing your progress. Aroostook County used to be potato country. I was born in Bangor.

My friend grew up in Patten and then lived in Shin Pond right over the bridge .
Beautiful area and campground ⛺️
Just subscribed and am looking forward to seeing your Maine home and everything you do with it... how exciting!
Thank you for your support 💙
How cool!! My mom's family is from Maine. She and my grandmother grew up between Maine and Massachusetts. Also, one of my mom's oldest friends raised her family in Aroostook County. Some of the family lives closer to MA now, but they lived in Caribou for decades. One time we got lost going to their house and ended up at the Canadian border. My parents were like uh, I think we missed a turn somewhere... That was long before cell phones and GPS too.
I can't wait to watch this series. I recently discovered and started watching a series from the UA-camr, Shannon Makes, who is Canadian and bought a house in Canada that they are rehabbing too. She's doing the same thing where they bought the house a while ago and is showing some of the back footage now after they've made significantly more progress. She is a circus performer and "maker," so they're doing everything on a limited budget and while she's not a reseller, she is an avid thrifter.
Too funny, thank you for sharing your story ❤️
First of all congrats! Second of all this is very inspiring, you've been very humble and careful not to jump into anything with social media
until your plans were in the initial stages set. I feel that this is going to be life changing for your family. I'm sure you both will research homesteading and seek advice from people who really have a vested interest in it. If you go with a homesteading UA-cam channel that will be very exciting , maybe moving away from good wills and focusing on living off the land and honeing all of the creative skills you have. Good luck and learn as much as you can. ❤peace and love. From NH ..soon to be my fellow New Englanders !!
Thank you for the kind words 🧡💜
I look forward to going on this journey with you two!
Congrats!! Great fun!
Congratulations !! How fun for you guys!! Looking forward to riding along this new journey!!🩷🩷🩷
I'm so excited for you. Can't wait to see the progression
This is wonderful! Happy and excited for you!
My husband grew up in Stockholm, Maine!! We live in Southern Maine! But we just got back from visiting family up there! I always love being up there! It is beautiful!
My dad grew up in Stockhom, Maine. David Carlson. Many happy memories of summers and a few Christmases. Dad moved to Western New York after WW2.
I live in Stockholm now. Moved here in 2021.
Congratulations!! Although I’m not originally from Maine, I did live there for 20 years. Spent a lot of time hiking and camping in Baxter state park and the Moosehead Lake region. Snowshoeing was always fun, get some if you don’t already have them 😂.
Baxter is an awesome area 🌲
Wonderful news! I’m so happy for you! Can’t wait to see what’s been done!
It has come a long way in a short time 💙
Congrats! That’s so exciting!
Welcome, we are in a little Swedish village of Stockholm waaay up north in Aroostook. We typically think of any place below Presque Isle as Central Aroostook. I've even heard people call Bangor, northern Maine. Get ready for really interesting Winters and Moose in the road. Good luck. This place will toughen you up. :)
Thanks for the tips! 💙
Congratulations!
It's beautiful up there and I'm sure your family will be happy.
Can't wait to see the pictures and videos.
So fun! But lots of work. You all work together so well and love watching you. Don't you love seeing the old wallpaper layers and choices people made years ago? Look forward to seeing the transformation
