    This is great but I wish you'd also given the hook size in millimeters. Even though I'm American who grew up with standard measurements, I prefer knowing the hook size in millimeters because it's consistent no matter what type thread or yarn you use. It's more precise when using the metric system to measure wire, jewelry, and other small crafty things. It's also easier to keep track of sizes that logically increase as the number increases. Again, great video presentation but next time can you please include hook sizes in millimeters? Thanks!🙂

      Total agreement. When the letter names are inconsistent and totally meaningless, why don't ALL of us use the actual size of the hook as its name?

      I was looking online for thread size hooks, especially 7. Most of the big sets of many hooks sold in metric only had 1.5mm, and 7's are 1.65mm. I don't know if it would have made much difference.

    Right now I am crocheting a filet crochet lace curtain panel with the diagram of a single tree. I will make 3 of these for the upper windows of our loft. I am using Aunt Lydia's 30 with a #5 steel crochet hook. I have 38 rows of a pattern totaling 120 rows and it is really looking nice. This is great thread to work with. Nice product! Thanks!

    I like Aunt Lydia's size 10 cotton crochet thread and use it for many projects. I find it works about the same as JP Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen which is no longer available. I wish that more shaded colors were available, though even with Knit-Cro-Sheen, certain colors came and went. I recently was able to buy shaded greens, light yellows, and cherry (which looks like the old shaded flamingoes color that disappeared long ago) and stocked up on shaded purples, pinks, yellows (which are really orange) and light blues. Sadly, I cannot find shaded browns or some combo colors (green & yellow, purple and yellow). Still, this is a great product and there's nothing else on the market like this with as many available color choices.

    Size 10 is my go to for doilies and lace. Sometimes I like the finer threads for delicate work. I do use yarn for specific things like scarves and booties, but I learned to crochet as a child from my grandmother, using size 10 thread and small hooks. I love the small sizes best.

    Hello. Question - since the Cable 3 is a bit heavier, would you say this would be good for making Bedspreads, tablecloths, table runners and bathing suits ? Or should I go with Size 10 for a bathing suit ? Thank You and great video!

    June 21, 2024 at 4:30AM - I just wanted to comment that I just now purchased Aunt Lydia's Fashion 3 Crochet Thread at 40% OFF from Michaels ($2.99/ball). I bought 2 balls each of 14 different colors they were selling and got FREE SHIPPING! I do not gain anything from sharing this knowledge but I'm sure most anyone can appreciate saving money. I hope someone benefits from this info. Have a great day! 😊

    I would also like to comment not on the thread/yarn, but on the hooks. It seems that when Bates steel crochet hooks were made in the US (numbered, such as 7, 8 and 9 which were good for the Aunt Lydia size 10 thread), the hooks were in-line. I mean that the hooks were like a straight shaft with a notch cut out of the shaft to make the hook. I found that the easiest to work with. Now, the steel Bates hooks are like the Boye hooks, which are molded rather than notched, and the hooks stick out from the shaft, making it much more difficult (for me, anyway), to crochet smoothly. If anyone knows where one can buy the older style notched hooks, please post. Thank you.

    Really, really, really wish you had given the millimeters for the hook sizes. There is no confusion about a hook size given in millimeters, regardless of the craft or the country of origin. Other hook sizing systems are arbitrary and confusing. Millimeter sizes are the actual measurement, therefore neither arbitrary nor confusing.

    • @PriscillaWarner-pu3ej
      @PriscillaWarner-pu3ej Рік тому

      Yeah, the alphabetical ones are too confusing. You don't know what size they are in mm for patterns.

    Thank you for your help ❤ the question I have is: I can change the thread size to Most patterns or Any pattern? I was given some different sizes of thread and none of them are marked, wrapping is gone. I have Mostly 10 and it is what I have worked with practicing making leaves. 🤔

    I will argue until I'm blue that the US terminology for crochet makes more sense than the UK/AUS terminology.
    But that being said, go metric already!

    • @redheartyarns
      @redheartyarns  9 років тому +1

      +barkers16 Your stitches should become more even with practice. You may or may not want to change your hook size depending on what you are making and the gauge you want it to have.

    I am on round 6 of this doily in size 10. I am wondering if I'm doing something wrong because the thread is twisting. I have to stop and untwist it and find it a bit frustrating. What am I doing wrong? What can I do to keep this from happening. Help. I'm new to crocheting a doily. Thank you.

    • @DogPooOnYourNewShoe
      @DogPooOnYourNewShoe 5 років тому

      I'm not sure if this applies to lace yarn, but it could be that you are crocheting against the twist of your yarn. In that case you'd be kind of un-twisting your yarn while working with it, causing it to act up like that. I once read an interesting article about this, but unfortunately I can't seem to find it anymore

    If you plan on using this as a decorative thread on a serger for a flatlock stitch, forget it. It starts winding against itself forming loops that no matter what you do, you cannot straighten. Metallic 10 is what I’m trying to use and it turned into a rats nest before it got anywhere near the serger, even when I held it. Unraveling it is futile. So much for this project I’m trying to make.

    What is the heavier weight that Aunt Lydia's thread has? I have a doily pattern that I like to convert into a small rug. Which thread do you recommend and what size hook. Also, is it available in large cones? Thank you: William

    • @redheartyarns
      @redheartyarns  8 років тому +1

      Hi William, Thank you for your question. The heaviest weight Aunt Lydia's thread is a size 3, which is still pretty thin. You may want to use a yarn instead if you're making a rug; thread would take a very long time to make a rug. It is not available in cones.

    If I am using a size 6 steel hook with Aunt Lydia's Fashion 3 thread, would that cause it to ruffle?
    Thanks!

    • @redheartyarns
      @redheartyarns  8 років тому

      Hi, Yes, a size 6 hook is quite small to use with Fashion 3. However, we cannot say for certain because it also depends on your style of crochet and how tight your gauge is.

    What size thread to use threading a Roman Shade? Thanks

    • @redheartyarns
      @redheartyarns  8 років тому

      +Noreen Cahill Sorry, we've not familiar with making roman shades. For crochet thread, the higher the number the thinner the yarn. So a size 3 crochet thread is bigger/thicker than a size 10 crochet thread, which is thicker than a size 20 crochet thread. Hope this helps!

      They did .... the smallest doily was sitting in front of the size 30 thread, the next size up in front of the size 20 thread, etc ... the largest doily sitting in front of the size 3 thread. She mentioned and you can see the thread size numbers on the packaging.

    That is not true about the hook size. If the number of the hook is low, the thread you can use has to be very fine as well. So high number for the tread makes it thinner, high number for the hook makes it larger.
