- You can learn all about Yarn in this video presentation. Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. I'll explain yarn in detail, including fiber content, textures, sizes, standards, weights and substituting yarn in knitting and crocheting patterns. Yarn label guides such as weight classification and gauge are covered. Also discussed are tools to measure WPI or Wraps per Inch for mystery yarns.

I happen to like 100% cotton yarn for blankets, because my skin gets itchy with many other fibers. The advantage of cotton yarn is that it is cool, a natural fiber, and easy on people with sensitive skin. Blankets can be a little tricky to wash - I haven't had much shrinkage, but sometimes dark colors will "bleed" onto light colors unless I hand-wash it. But if you use all similar colors (either all dark or all light) there shouldn't be any problems. Cotton can be a bit pricey too, but worth it.
Glad it could help. Thanks for your kind words.
I appreciate the feedback - glad the video could help!
Wonderful to hear the videos have helped. Thanks for stopping by :)
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.
thank you. your explanantion is clear and straightforward. in so many videos people say things such as "like i told you earlier" and then tell you the same thing all over again. also, there are no "uhs", "likes" and "kinda sortas" in your video. you are a natural teacher.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you much! Thanks for stopping by!

What you are so strictly following are newer USA Yarn Council guidelines. However what they've written isn't always followed by international yarns, classic yarns, plus hand-spinners. E.g. Red Heart "Sport" yarn is a #3 on the label. Malabrigo Sock is a "light fingering" not "fingering." Patons "Lace" is not a #0 but a #2, despite they say "laceweight" next to a #2 on their website. The best thing to do is be concerned with gauge or wraps per inch, because names have never been 100% consistent.

@puffyjo Thanks for the feedback - and for stopping by :)

Hello! I apologize for the delay in response. I like all sorts of yarn - the inexpensive stuff in my local craft stores like Michaels, Joann Fabrics, etc. I also like some fancier yarn like Plymouth, Debbie Bliss, & Noro that I find in my local specialty yarn shops. I like Knitpicks yarn, plus Herrschners has some good prices on all types of yarn. Occasionally I'll find deals at yard sales, estate sales, and craft fairs. Sometimes also at "fiber festivals" held 2-3 times/year.
Thanks Donna 😊! You are AMAZING! I started crocheting about a year ago & You were the very first person I found on UA-cam, Thank God 😊💝!!! I Crocheted probably 30 Beanies, Ear Warmers, etc from Your Tutorial's before I started watching some other's on UA-cam, but You are still my absolute favorite 😊💝!!! You taught me so much & I will forever be grateful for You! I still Absolutely Love your Tutorial's & Pattern's the best 💝! I can't believe how much Your Beautiful Daughter looks like You 😊💝! I can really see it in this video. Y'all look like Sister's & I am so happy she is following in Your footsteps. You both are so Awesome at everything Y'all do! Sending Much Love & God Bless You Both & Thank You for Everything 😊😊💝💝!
Hello! I purchased mine at knitpicks (they have an online shop if you add the dot com after it - for some reason links don't work properly here otherwise I'd put the whole web address). It's called a "WPI Tool and Knit Card." The manufacturer is "Nancy's Knit Knacks." It's about 10 US dollars. Sometimes they carry those at your local yarn shop too (not the craft type stores, but the ones that carry some of the more specialty yarn). Hope this helps!
@Jemima119 Glad the video could help - thanks for stopping by and leaving feedback :)

I've been trying to find some good yarn for my mom (who loves to knit) for her birthday and had no idea what I was looking at, this video is extremely helpful and easy to understand. Now I can find something that she'll really love and for that I'm grateful. Thank you :)
@stuwoo68 Hi! Boucle yarn works wonderful for scarves. You can definitely use boucle yarn in a loom. In many ways, it's easier to use boucle yarn in a loom. With both traditional knitting & crocheting, sometimes boucle yarn can be challenging because it has an uneven texture and you don't get the whole yarn on the hook/needle properly (it can split). With loom knitting, the pegs will make it easier to see the entire yarn when you lift the first yarn over the next yarn - thus avoiding splits.
Informative and straight forward! Very helpful. Thank you.
As always, this was wonderful and helpful info. Plus, as an aged woman, it warms my heart to see a beautiful young woman so accomplished.

i live in a very warm country and the most accessible type of yarn I can get are acrylic which only comes in smaller spools and are very limited in color. Other types of yarn are either imported or are extremely expensive. Crochet threads on the other hand are very popular amongst crocheters here which makes so much more sense as we don't really have much use for sweaters, hats or scarves. I still enjoy making projects from your video though and from other youtubers even if I'm only using threads most of the time.
Great video Thanks so much it was so helpful.
