But that’s the smart thing to do. Surely most golfers just prefer to waste money buying these and then trading them in 1-2 years later when the next iron set promises them 2 yards. Used is 10000% the way to go for golfers on a budget
@@Labgorilla Exactly. Its amazing to me what people will say to try and convince themselves that they didn't get screwed. If your not a professional golfer, and you bought a custom set of name brand clubs, you 100% got screwed. Period. The "but how long will they last" BS is what always gets me. Its a set of effen irons. Unless you hit rocks or concrete with them, they will outlive everyone in these forums and then some. Just ridiculous coping.
A set of $150 wal mart clubs will still look great in 5-10 years unless your stupid with them and hit rocks and concrete etc.. Which would also destroy those soft a$$ P790s. Any irons out there will last forever if you take half a$$ decent care of them.
I really liked you comparing the PW, 7i and 4i. Would be interesting, though more time consuming, to see a more in depth comparison to see if the gaping is consistent thru the set. My current bag makeup is all name brand clubs. When I started decades ago, i couldn't afford anything name brand and I wasn't that good anyway and was just trying to improve my game. The design and quality of these Kirkland clubs appears much better than the typical big box store generic irons an aspiring golfer might buy.
Would love to know about the durability of the irons too. I would think that the P790’s would keep their grooves for longer. How many rounds can the Kirklands take before showing wear?
Just put the p770’s in my bag and absolutely love them… more true lofts and easier to dial in my numbers then the p790’s which are very strong lofted and long. Dispersion is much better with the p770’s I am still one who believes you get what you pay for but great review on a good budget set of irons.
I really loved how you showed respect to both sets of clubs. I agree that Kirkland are limited in sets and selection. But, I hit some the other day at the range and really liked the way they felt. I have Ping i500's that I paid $400 for (demo set) and thought the Kirklands were similar in performance. Great review Rick! Cheers!!!
Classic lines. Yes, clearly the Kirkland have been inspired by the P790. Thing is Caley X irons do some irons that are also clearly inspired by the P790. Caley irons look a lot classier than the Kirkland. I think if we don’t mind what logo is on a set of irons then Kirkland have got to be worth a pod. And consistency is vitally important, meaning I can understand why these Kirkland irons are flying off the shelves. I’d like to see how the Kirkland irons compare to the equivalent Caley irons.
I use callaway apex MB's currently, which i love. But i would love to see what you think of takomo 301 mbs compared to some of the big name brand blade irons.
I’m a scratch golfer. I keep saying fittings and stuff largely overrated. I’m playing a full set of Kirkland clubs straight from box to my bag. Balls gloves wedges putter the whole 9 yards. After a week there is no noticeable scoring difference between these and my $3500 fitted clubs. Good players will always adjust to their equipment. I love these clubs balls the whole Kirkland experience. My only complaint which isn’t really a complaint is they are very shiny. In California that can be a bit annoying. It’s minor issue.
@@0fficerJimLahey I appreciate the idea but luckily after a few weeks of golfing daily they have dulled to a nice shine. I will say the consistency of the irons are amazing. I was told with these hollow body distant control can be an issue. I’ve found none. The biggest bonus is I can get my blackberry ginger ale (Costco only place that sells it) and my golf gear all in one place lol. These clubs are great. Also nothing better than beating people with their expensive clubs and my lowly generic Costco clubs. Other funny thing is, without fail every round I’ve played with someone they all ask to try and hit the clubs. All have loved them. Sorry for long response. Bought the kirkland wedges after watching Rick's review, and been very happy with their performance and feel. Sounds like the kirkland irons are going to be the next upgrade in my bag
Rick, you should check out the Maltby ts1 im. Pretty much the same price as the Kirkland but they will build them to your specs. Amazing feel to them as well. I highly recommend you check them out.
It's because there is a lawsuit over these and probably the wedges. You litterly cant find either in the entire united states so this video is pointless. If you want either you have to pay a massive markup on ebay or amazon and who knows how those people are getting them. It's complete BS
@@bertrenolds5 I've seen drivers in-store (in the US) and wedges and putters online but the irons haven't been seen either online or in-store since the lawsuit, unfortunately.

I did some digging, wedges are available in other countries and you can get the irons in the uk. I wouldn't hold my breath for either being available in the usa after all the lawsuits
The conclusions that I would make from your little experiment were that the clubs are very similar, and differences seem to be due to the differences in loft. Clubs that are stronger lofted (P790 PW, 7 iron, KSig. 4 iron) tended to go a little further, launch a little lower, and spin a little less. Just what you would expect. The Costco clubs look a great value as long as the shaft fits you.
It is really really cool to see the HIT channel with all the tech involved compared to when I first started watching Rick's channel in the early days of COVID when he had a simulator setup in his basement of his home (anyone remember him breaking his Cobra driver against the ceiling???). Thanks for this new channel and the insight on the Taylormade and Kirkland irons. I'm looking to get a set of the Kirkland irons so my wife has a solid set of clubs for her early days of golf (already have the driver, wedges, putter, and golf balls). This confirmed I'm making the right choice for a nice "beginner" set of clubs.
Ive been waiting for this!!!!! I just think Kirkland needs a simple “KS” label instead of the full all out wording covering the whole thing. Otherwise they look sooooooooooooooo good.
Definitely like the comparison. Could definitely see myself adding the Kirkland irons to the bag in the near future. My current irons are getting pretty old and worn. Might be time for a cheap upgrade…
Rick, as a ~22 handicap are these clubs for me if I can get my hands on them? Or should I look at more friendly clubs. However the kirklands are well within a budget.
I played on a resort course and used the hire clubs which were the older generation of P970 - Other than being strong lofted, they are very good clubs and felt a lot softer than I was expecting...
Thank you for your video. But let’s be pragmatic. The TM P 790 are amazingly good golf clubs. They built up this outstanding performance over years of improvement and development. Any other supplier has the opportunity to copy and paste. And if a player has a smaller budget he might go for the cheaper option. Myself, I bought the P 790 last year and they are worth the money. No doubt about that. TaylorMade is high quality and this has a price. But thank you so much for your motivation to promote the other golf clubs. 😊😊😊🇩🇪
I've just started getting back into playing after a 17 year layoff due to a back injury. I'm currently playing with an 18 year old set of Ram Wizard II irons and would like some recommendations for a new set of irons on a fairly tight budget.
KSig copy of 790, which copied PXG 0311 that brought the hollow head iron forward and changed the game in a big way. We’re all extremely fortunate that fierce competition in the market keeps the cool stuff coming
very interesting. All things considered I would take a set of the kirklands. I do prefer the brushed finish of the p790s, but that's a hell of a price difference for looks.
thanks rick, pretty cool, dont need irons right now but will definitely keep an eye out for the kirklands in the future if im going for something good and cost friendly compared to the big names
The biggest difference between the two is availability. You can get the P790s in any golf store. Good luck finding the Kirklands in stock at Costco. If they show up, they go fast.
I want to buy these clubs, but how do I know if I would need regular or stiff? I am 5’8, 175 lbs and lift weights. I have only played for a couple of years and on a great day I can shoot a 90, so I am still not very good. Anyone have any tips on this? I have the Kirkland wedges and I love them.
Always been a Mizuno player and still have a set of their irons however 18 months sgo I decided to go for a fitting and cant believe i picked the P790's with stiff shaft 1degree upright and midsize grips with three layers of tape underneath. I have to say the Mizuno irons for me are a little more forgiving but centre strikes the Taylormade's are so buttery smooth and feel great. The Kirkland clubs represent incredible value but they come in a one size fits all and im not sold on the shiny finish however, they appear to be a carbon copy which could lamd them in trouble though I would be surprised if Costco hadnt checked this with their legal team beforerelease for sale.
I've noticed that when you test clubs you hit a straight shot usually ending up on or near the green but when you're on the course you try to shape shots that can miss the green by a country mile?
I game Cobra Forged TecX irons. Technology is very similar to these clubs. Price is somewhere in the middle. Very forgiving. Lots of choice in this category of irons.
I just picked up the wedges and so far I really like them. They’re balanced very well, not too heavy in the clubhead but also not too light, the ball really pops off the face and I feel very confident hitting them.
I just think its impressive that some out of the box clubs are performing so close to the custom fit clubs. I would be curious if you had the costco clubs re-shafted to your fit, how the numbers may change in comparison to the p790's. Would they actually pull ahead of the p790 if properly fit? Obviously the added cost of refitting them is unrealistic to their intended purpose, but would still be really interesting to see how their club heads fare on an apples to apples test.
Nice review Rick Basically physics is physics - you have a hard head hitting a small soft ball. The mass is the same, the lofts are much the same, the shaft length and dynamics are much the same, and the USGA R&A rules are there!, and in the end physics wins ..... but golfers still buy for 3 main reasons: (1) want to buy (2) need to buy (3) love to buy Golf brands including ours - Q Golf - all tell stories that are plausible and we golfers want a reason to buy 😁
Maybe it’s just how the video was edited but you definitely miss left with the taylormades vs the Kirklands. Is there any different in offset between the two?
It seems to me you could buy the Kirklands, have the heads pulled and get fitted for the shafts that fit your game, have them purchased/installed and still save money over the Taylor Mades. That said...the TM's do look much better in the brushed look over the chrome.
To be fair. I know they are similar... but I would make the argument that you would get similar results from many different club manufacturers. So what I take away from this is play the brands you like. If you like playing quality clubs and you don't care about brands. Play Costco clubs, or Tacoma's, or Stix, etc. I personally really liked PXG's (for really no particular reason other than I thought they looked cool) but didn't want to pay $1400. So I picked up a second hand set of lightly used last years model for $600. I'm very happy with them.
I ordered P790's from AliExpress last season- I love them but was largely due to the fact that I was using super beginner/old clubs. Everyone asks me if they are like the real deal and I just shrug and say to me they are, but I don't know any better 😅 Would love to see you order some and compare against the real deal!
Could you review the Lazrus irons and woods sometime? There are not many in depth reviews for them out there, and as an entry golfer on a budget they are very appealing. Thanks!!
Bought both the Kirklands and the Takomos to compare with a friend’s p790s. IMO Takomos feel way better and are easier to hit, very similar to the p790s. Kirkland’s are noticeably clickier even if you middle it. Went with the Takomos. Would love for you to do a head to head with the Kirklands and Takomos
Great stuff. I assume this is the newest p790. I wonder if the orignal 2017 line stacks up as well. I would guess used 2017 clubs would be priced similar to a NEW Kirkland set in Canada (when its available)

I would like a review of the macgregors or a comparison to Kirkland i rons. These older company's seem to be making similar irons to 790's and are making them cheaper even Ram has come out with some.
I’ve got my self the takomo 101 irons and I’ve played with the TM p790s and convinced they are the same, if not takomo 5 yards further, interesting from Costco, same price as mine though, think my ego would stop me getting them

Are the Taylormades out of the box or have they got a custom shaft in (fitted to you). Be interested to see a custom shaft in the Kirkland if that is the case and if you can even get that...?
Good review. Proving that you dont need to spend a fortune on clubs to get a great set. TM did the R and D on these clubs years ago. This is the 4th generation with these clubs.
P790's inconsistent spin numbers, which produce the 7 irons that occasionally fly 190, are why I went to the Srixon zx7
Cheers!!!
Mate I love your reviews I’m so glad you’re doing honest reviews not just doing what the manufacturers want you to say
Golf is 90% the person and 10% the equipment. 🤘😎
Take some soft scotch-brite and work it left to right in the same direction as the grooves to take some of that shine off
@@0fficerJimLahey I appreciate the idea but luckily after a few weeks of golfing daily they have dulled to a nice shine. I’m on peloton bike and UA-cam how I kill time ridding
I am just curious. If you had a 3500 dollar set of fitted clubs, what was your motivation for buying the Kirklands? Were you just curious as well?
@@Chris54321 to prove a point to my friends that I could play just as well. That’s the excuse. The better reason is I just really wanted to play a full set of Costco clubs.
@@Lovetheducks Your reason is a good as any other.
£480 for a nice looking set of irons that feel good to hit and then spend the remaining £720 on lessons or use it for your golf membership. Absolute no brainer
Bought the kirkland wedges after watching Rick's review, and been very happy with their performance and feel. Sounds like the kirkland irons are going to be the next upgrade in my bag
Do you notice a gapping issue with the 8,9,and pw? 7 and under seem normal
How do the shafts compare? Furthermore, what are the shaft options on the Kirklands considering that you likely just buy them off the shelf.
Rick, you should check out the Maltby ts1 im. Pretty much the same price as the Kirkland but they will build them to your specs. Amazing feel to them as well. I highly recommend you check them out.
Wait… Your Costco just has a full display of Kirkland clubs?! I haven’t seen them at my warehouse since they’ve come out
It's because there is a lawsuit over these and probably the wedges.
@@lsanchez841 no wedges or putters and they appear to be discontinued because if you search the item number it says unavailable, not out of stock. Doesn't even pull the item up
I did some digging, wedges are available in other countries and you can get the irons in the uk. I wouldn't hold my breath for either being available in the usa after all the lawsuits
@@bertrenolds5 all I know is I bought the wedges online about 4 weeks ago and two drivers (in-store South Carolina) 3 weeks ago.
I’ve been playing with the Costco irons since they first were released. I love them!
This channel has been and still is the best club review channel. No bias what so ever, and I greatly appreciate that. 💪👍🇺🇸
He’s come a long ways from the driving range reviews
Ive been waiting for this!!!!! I just think Kirkland needs a simple “KS” label instead of the full all out wording covering the whole thing. Otherwise they look sooooooooooooooo good.
K-sig
Wow what a comparison 😮
Funny you say that. Taylor made are suing them.
I've noticed that when you test clubs you hit a straight shot usually ending up on or near the green but when you're on the course you try to shape shots that can miss the green by a country mile?
Great review it also look like you hit the P790 left and pushed Kirkland right. Were the offsets similar?
I game Cobra Forged TecX irons. Technology is very similar to these clubs. Price is somewhere in the middle. Very forgiving. Lots of choice in this category of irons.
Huge props for the “ROUND 1 - FIGHT!” Straight outta Mortal Kombat 🦂🥶
I go into Costco for butter and now will come out with an iron set and still forget the butter
Hit a 7 iron right out the middle in front of the wife then tell her there’s the butter 🧈 😂
Then you can go back for the butter and come back with a driver too
The real question is who needs 20 lbs of butter 😂
My local golf shop will add the extra 1/2 inch lenght I need for feck all but can't change the lie angle so unfortunately I am out 😢
Great review, would like to see how these Kirkland signatures compare to the Callaway Edges they also sell!
I just picked up the wedges and so far I really like them. They’re balanced very well, not too heavy in the clubhead but also not too light, the ball really pops off the face and I feel very confident hitting them.
Anybody know when they'll be available (in-store or online)? Been checking for months and can't find anywhere (USA or Canada)
I'm not surprised at your results. I switched to the Kirkland ball and love it. Especially the cost of course.
Nice review Rick
Basically physics is physics - you have a hard head hitting a small soft ball. The mass is the same, the lofts are much the same, the shaft length and dynamics are much the same, and the USGA R&A rules are there!, and in the end physics wins ..... but golfers still buy for 3 main reasons:
(1) want to buy
(2) need to buy
(3) love to buy
Golf brands including ours - Q Golf - all tell stories that are plausible and we golfers want a reason to buy 😁
Everyone asks me if they are like the real deal and I just shrug and say to me they are, but I don't know any better 😅
Would love to see you order some and compare against the real deal!
12 handicapper and I play p790’s. Tried others but nothing comes close for me. Power, forgiveness and look amazing
Rick please compare both clubs with the Takomo 101. 🙏🏾Love the content 👍🏾
Like how you had the sound comparison. Finally getting deeper into review instead of "I just liked it better"
What a quality set of clubs for someone new to golf who doesn’t want to spend a fortune. As always great review. 👍🏻👍🏻
Love seeing these low cost brands compared to the big, high priced brands. Would love to get your thoughts on Vice Irons.
there's almost a slight delay in sound from the P790 compared to the kirkland, which sounds more immediate. Makes the P790 sound a bit softer I think.
Did Kirkland pull from shelves? I cant find the irons anywhere
Any chance of doing a head to head between Kirkland Signature and Caley. Similar prices, similar influence, how do they stack up against one another?
Couldn't be more impressed with the Kirkland clubs from what you've shown. It's seriously impressive
Rick, have you seen the new MacGregor DTC irons? They look pretty sweet. Would love to see a review. The MacSPD irons are also hollow body foam filled 🤔
Would love to see you include these irons in a budget bag round. Thanks for this comparison
Good luck Pete! Your game looks great! 👏🏻
Hey Rick. Love the work! Please please please can you test the Vice irons? The forged ones look beautiful.
If you went to a metal finishing place Rick SHIELSY baby.... you could get those Kirklands looking sweetbix!!!
Might be a wicked video too mates
I have callaway mavrik max irons rn and would love to get the Kirklands as I’ve become better at golf. Anyone know how much of a difference there is between the two. Also I know this is a shot in the dark but I would gladly take those Kirkland irons off your hands if you are giving them away Rick!
I would like a review of the macgregors or a comparison to Kirkland i rons. These older company's seem to be making similar irons to 790's and are making them cheaper even Ram has come out with some.
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
Good comparison video Rick
I’ve got my self the takomo 101 irons and I’ve played with the TM p790s and convinced they are the same, if not takomo 5 yards further, interesting from Costco, same price as mine though, think my ego would stop me getting them
Rick please review Takomo golf Irons and wedges next
Great stuff Rick. Mega irons and brilliant review
Rick definitely needs to do a Break 75 video with these clubs! Your stikes were amazing with the Kirklands.
Love it I need a set of Kirkland iron stuff shaft everything In golf is so expensive and a lot of times for no reason just like golf shirt are way more money than a shirt made out of the same material from another company that doesn’t advertise their shirt as a “Golf shirt “ is ridiculous you wanna grow the game and everything make things more affordable
So, in other words, buy the Kirkland irons when they are available.
Did you compare regular shafts on both sets?
Review the vice clubs!!! They look phenomenal and I want them to perform well so I feel justified buying them lol
I have the P790s, and oddly enough, my 7i has the most "jumpers". Sometimes the ball will go 200 yards when I average 165 with it.
Great review!! I'm looking forward to seeing you play a round with them.
I would take both sets at this point! Nice review, well done!
Are the Taylormades out of the box or have they got a custom shaft in (fitted to you). Be interested to see a custom shaft in the Kirkland if that is the case and if you can even get that...?
How about Takomo review Ricky?!! Been waiting for yours since you give honest reviews and not worried about endorsement money.
TBF, one could purchase the Kirkland, have custom fitted shafts, lie angles, grips, and any other customizations and still save money on the TM.
The Callaway edge set Costco has is amazing as well.
Good review. Proving that you dont need to spend a fortune on clubs to get a great set. TM did the R and D on these clubs years ago. This is the 4th generation with these clubs. You could argue that this has paid off for them. They can't keep trading on the fact they spent money developing them. They've certainly had a return on the investment. They could start making them more affordable now.
