This was what "disco" sounded like just before there was "disco" as a national and global trend. It was fantastic!! First Choice, Teddy Pendergrass, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Barry White/Love Unlimited/ The Love Unlimited Orchestra, Earth, Wind & Fire , and Herbie Hancock. To my ears this group's best cut was "Dr. Love", but they had several dance floor smashes including this one.
This is when disco was it's best (before it became too commercial) and having Larry Wasgington on the congas and bongos and Earl Young on the drums gave this music a driving beat.
What is so great about these "early" disco songs is that they were up-tempo "sweet Philly" songs with good lyrics that had all the characteristic horns and strings of the genre, and IMHO they've aged very well. By the late 1970s, disco songs had become complacent with a manufactured sound and even rock bands were taking cracks at putting out disco tracks, which led to disco's backlash by 1979.
listening to them sing is like hearing 3 voices from heven, they are very talented singers. and really fine looking women. they live up to there name. they are my first choice. they don't make music like this anymore, and it's a dam same .
Back in the day like some philly artists including Archie Bell & The Drells, MFSB, The O'Jays, First Choice, Billy Paul, and Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes.
I had a big crush on the middle lead singer back in the early 70's as a student at Morgan State University.

It was up-tempo R&B/Soul.
