    The approach of going high carb low fat low protein and doing all these things to heal the gut is counter productive. Not feeling satiated is because you are not having enough fat and protein through your the day. Rather than high carb, have more complex carbs with more fiber to improve digestion. With higher amounts of fat and protein along with carbohydrates you will feel satiated, happy and is more sustainable on the long term. I’ve tried both high carb low fat and low carb high fat. I’ve noticed that balancing, managing all types of macros is what we must learn to do rather than forsaking or isolating foods because of lack of managing them in our diet. I’ve learned we need all macros, all foods. Don’t be afraid to eat all kinds of macros especially if your doing a Whole Foods plant based style of eating.

      Using generic terms can be misleading
      High carb?
      Well, if that's farrow, whole oats, purple rice, etc...that's good
      If it's donuts, bread and cake...that's bad
      Fats...if it's avocados, raw nuts and seeds....that's good
      If it's oils and animal fats, it's bad
      Protein
      If it's beans, Brussel sprouts, tofu, oats, nuts....it's good
      If it's animals, it's bad
      By eating the right foods, you can eat a lot and be satiated.

    Yesterday for breakfast i had oatmeal, about 1 1/2 cups, with one small banana, 1 1/2 tbsp of chia seed, 1 tbsp of flax seed, 1 tbsp of almond butter, 2 dates chopped, a little cinnamon and vanilla extract. This kept me very full, seriously, for about 6 hours, it was very good and satisfying

      That's because your stomach is full, not the same thing as satiety. I skip breakfast 3-5 days a week and I'm not hungry at all while I'm doing it. That's satiety.

    I'm on my 21st day of being a vegan and lately I've been feeling really hungry especially when it's night time. I eat my three meals a day and don't starve myself or try to eat out of boredom, I've also been working out lately to loose some weight. But it's difficult to sleep at night with my stomach waking me up because it wants me to eat. :(

    Very good video. I wish I had seen this video years ago when all my nasty gut bugs were screaming for sugar and making me insatiably hungry all the time. And spot-on with the approach to healing the gut, I followed that general protocol in a not-so-formal or linear way and eventually found myself on the other side with a much healthier gut. This guy knows his stuff!

    I stuff so much face as a high carb, high fiber vegan and I'm only really hungry if I accidentally skip a meal. I don't limit myself with raw fruits and veggies, but I eat a sensible amount of cooked starches. Like FDA serving sizes.
    As of right now, I have gone from wearing a size 2XL shirt to wearing a size Medium 🎉and I'm still losing weight!
    Aaaannnnd.........
    My cravings have actually started to align with what my body actually needs, like if I need vitamin C, I crave bell peppers and citrus fruits. If I need iron, i'll crave dark greens and oatmeal, and when I am feeling a little sleepy, I want cooked starch like potatoes.
    They aren't serious cravings, more like "huh. *insert food * sounds like a good idea " while I'm cooking my meals

    Very thorough, thank you, as it is so important to have a 'vital' gut. Really resonated with what you said about the lack of B and fat soluble vitamins and fatty acids when you have unwanted bacteria/overgrowth. It is debilitating when not diagnosed correctly. When the gut is functioning the head is clear and the 'brain fog' and listlessness goes.

    You missed a MAJOR point when it comes to satiation. Calories are NOT the most important factor to make us feel satiated. I, and MANY others, that have been HCLF could eat up to 4000 calories a day and the stomach was almost bursting and STILL we didn't feel satiated. Volume, fiber and calories are only part of the picture and PROTEIN is the major key to feeling true satiation. They need to up their protein and I promise you, the satiation will follow. It's not always as complicated as we make it. So everyone reading this, just try it out! Eat more protein and you will feel more satiated! Many high carbers are relying too heavily on starches and fruit. Some do well on this, but the majority need more protein to feel satiated. This is my experience along with MANY others. I'm a Nutritional therapist btw. Best regards!

    This is the first video of yours that I've watched and I'm definitely hooked! I'm 2.5 years vegan but recently my sister was diagnosed with A.L.L. which led me to eventually discover the Gerson therapy, and with that an even deeper understanding of disease. This all really kicked me into another level with my diet and I was very driven to cut out the vegan junk foods I was living on and go strong with WFPB. BUT, I would come home from work in the morning and have terrible junk food binges, and felt friggin horrible about it! I was like some kind of uncontrollable monster. I decided to ~~FINALLY~~ use cronometer to see exactly how I was doing eating intuitively. I was surprised, shocked, upset, to see that I was eating nearly half of the calories that I needed... Wow. This, at a time where I'm trying to put on muscle lol. After fixing my calories as best I can and playing with things, the junk food binges have stopped, but I'm using some junk foods to help me get to my calorie goals and I hope to be able to figure out how to adjust for that eventually too. ANYWAYS, thank you for this video! Can't wait to check out your others, I found you in the comments section on TVP's videos~~

    #askgojiman My wife is on her 5th month of her second pregnancy and just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She's already having some issues with indegestion and it's getting harder already to keep the diet going. Until we can see a nutritionist, I didn't know if they're are certain foods to aviod(besides animal products) and certain times to eat fruits. We are trying to keep it mostly whole foods with a oatmeal or granola for bfast(sometimes cereal but rarely) lunch can be anything but is usually veggie based though now a whole lot of veggies seem to cause to much indigestion(thinking about steaming only). Dinner will usually be the biggest meal with pasta, potatoes or rice being the base. She`ll snack on fruits or home made hummus and guac in between meals when hungry. She also has fruit for desert as well. Our doctor recommended bacon and eggs for breakfast and scolded us when we told him we were vegan. Sadly, he didnt have any recomendations for us but keep the carbs low.

      He is obsessed with reaching some godly status where he no longer poos. I don't get why he didn't just chill out and eat a balanced plant based diet. He goes from one extreme to another... the salad cleanse, the fruit cleanse, the water cleanse, drinks turpentine... maybe if he just ate normal and went and had an actual test for parasites and candida or got a test for food allergies, he would be fine. I think he must think because the animal products are slowing down his digestion that his issue is gone... but he might end up with an even worse one in the end. And he puts his health before the animals, he says, but our environment is at a tipping point and we might not be around too much longer if we dont change.

I really loved watching this video, and listening to everything that you had to say. I do however hope that you can appreciate, I believe that it is a mistake to take anything anybody says at face value, without doing some proper research. I would be so grateful if you could maybe link a few DOIs in your descriptions that discuss or prove some of what you are saying in the future if possible, just so I can go over and have a quick squidge through. How about people who develop digestive issues like ulcerative colitis after going vegan? I understand how a pre-existing issue might not be fixed by going vegan, if you don’t take the right steps, but how could a problem get worse by eating healthy vegan?

      I'm guessing certain fibers are irritating your gut. Gojiman has two other videos on gut health plus you should watch the one where he talks about Jordan Peterson's carnivore diet, and Vegetable Police quitting veganism. In both he talks about gut issues, they're really good and I'm trying to implement the tips in those vids.

    Are there any specific dietary recomendations/suggestions for someone to follow if they have had their gallbladder removed - also, as I no longer have a "bile store" could there be vitamins and minerals that I am missing out on or more likely to be low on. I have had my gallbladder removed, and I hear that it's one of the most common surgical procedures - most likely due to my bad diet.

    Nutritionist here looking for another professional’s opinion. What do recommend is the best micronutrient profile of a vegan diet, when pertaining to health? Many recommend HCLF, but academically this is viewed as extremist. The standard approach is have more of an equal balance.There’s a lot of historical evidence that suggests we are starch eaters, but this not the overall consensus. Thanks#askgojiman

    #AskGojiMan
    Dear GojiMan,
    I saw you made some videos on female topics so maybe you also know more about the two following widespread femalish issues:
    1) How to heal the root problem of PMS (especially menstrual pain) further to the hormon and omega 3 aspect ? Most austrian doctors recommed birth controll pills or pain killers. I find this very frustating and unsatisfying.
    2) How to cure chronical UTI without chemical synthesised antibiotics? There are lot of herbal remedies which sometimes might help, but what is in your opinion the clue to sustainable cure it? So to clarify I'm looking for a longterm solution since I already gethered experience with different teas, probiotics, apple cider, cranberry, mustard oils, capuchin cress, oregano and thymian oils, vitamine c, vitamine d, D-Mannose (which I btw supsect to mess with gut bacteria). I recently found some thesis on specific helpful microbioms like lactob. fermentum, rhamnosus and crispatus, but havn't got any results with those yet and maybe I missed something so I'm curious if and what you know about UTI.
    If you have (or in near future will get) some helpful information on one these topics please consider to share it with us!
    I highly appreciate your videos and the work you do in the (plant based) health community.
    Thank you so much and lot of greetings from Austria!
    PS: Recently I more often stumble on the information that toxins and as a result parsites are causing the problems, but nowadays everthing seams to be connected to parasites and different protocolls are sold so I'm not sure how reliable this is. So if my first to questions are not suiting you (right now) I'd be [besides being also interested what you think of a suitable vegetable police parasites protocol] very keen on your thoughts on parasites since it seams to cause so many different problems and there are tons of different protocols how to cure them, I'm still very insecure about a high fat diet and/or terpentine and what it is causing to the gut bacteria etc.
    Also there are also a lot of different parasites so how to test for all of them and do you think is there legitimate way how to cure all of them at the same time without needing to test for everything?

    yeast, bacteria and parasite issues in the gut can be a real big issue, I believe that~

    #askgojiman why have I become Superman after going to 80-90% carnivore diet after being plant-based for past 12 years? I have always been very physically active while I was plant-based; I took up distance trail running four years ago, ran a 1:11 half-marathon this spring but over trained and developed a hip flexor and IT band injury soon after. The one thing I have to thank for my recovery is the carnivore diet. I was rehabbing while I was plant based; I was sore, and my injuries hurt. Switched to the carnivore diet and my energy went through the roof, my rehab started inducing healing through my injuries, and I am quickly surpassing my prior plant-based health and strength. So I reiterate, how can I believe anything about my former plant-based diet when my new carnivore diet is making me feel like Superman?

      Karl Wheatley I hear what you are saying, but verify it. You can say whatever you want; provide facts, studies, whatever you want, I am going to base my diet and it’s benefits on the effects it has on my body. There is so much information about diet out there today, and a lot of it is inaccurate. Not every person should be on the same diet. Did you run 9 miles yesterday? Are you going to run up hills this weekend? So how can you say that my diet is going to kill me when my body might very well need all the fats and proteins meat provide?

  • @Reikihandsoflove

    soils microbes are not so great due to farming practices, chlorine in water kills good gut bacteria, veg and fruit contain pesticides and many of these are carcinogenic, low saturated fat diet tend to lower resistance to candida as saturated fats are the ultimate anti fungal food, but herbs are just temporary unless you want to eat loads as part of your diet, i.e. oregano, tumeric, garlic but they are more medicinal in fat. Repair gut lining with fats which encourage good cellular rigidity.

    There’s so much more to this than the gut health factor, which no doubt is important. I’m glad you mentioned stress, but the list of reasons why someone isnt feeling satisfied is long and needs to be analyzed on a case by case basis. The most common reason is just flat out not eating enough calories, emotional issues play a role and food addiction is real so processing any suppressed grief, anger, and fear will help, finding a way to love the new food you are eating is important, and ill stop there bc the list could go on for a while.

    How to heal metabolic damage after multiple extended water-only fasts and calorie restriction? #askgojiman

    • @imeantit336
      @imeantit336 6 років тому +3

      metabolic damage = lost muscle mass. you need to put on muscle. stop listening to the "eat unlimited calories" crowd, it's bs. putting on muscle mass is the only thing that will increase the amount of calories you burn at rest, and it will make you healthier in other ways as well.

    • @suicune2001
      @suicune2001 6 років тому +1

      Phil Griffiths Muscles speed up your metabolism. Check your TDEE and make sure you eat that amount every day. You need to make sure you have complete proteins in your body to support muscle growth. It's easy to get complete proteins with meat but if you're vegan then you'll have to eat a variety of foods. Go to the gym and do mostly strength training with intermittent cardio. Don't starve your body. Make sure you get enough calories.

    • @philddlesticks
      @philddlesticks 6 років тому

      Thank you both for your replies. I have been going to the gym and I have more muscle mass than before the fast so it's kind of strange, there has to be something else amiss. My thyroid levels have shown issues in the past but seemed to be doing okay since the last tests. I eat enough so as to not be hungry. In the last weeks, I've focused more on getting more protein. I have been able to slowly lower my calories back to normal amounts since the extreme hunger phase passed. Prior to fasting, my set point was 67 or 68 kg eating 3000 kcals (according to cronometer) primarily from fruit and starch, along with cooked carbs, veg, nuts and even occasional processed foods (vegan mock meats). My weight has been very stable at 113 kg, since June so perhaps I've reached the top, lol. I wondered if Gojiman has any ideas, because I have noticed possible signs of bacteria overgrowth since the fast, and it could have enabled it to occur when my body was running in a suppressed state where I could not digest foods very well and digestive system was slow after the fast also.

    • @suicune2001
      @suicune2001 6 років тому +2

      Phil Griffiths Keep in mind that weight loss isn't the goal - it's fat loss. You might weigh the same because you are replacing fat with muscle. Watch your sugar intake and eat protein and carbs after your workout. A simple way to check your progress is to measure your waist or get one of those things that can measure your fat percentage. I forget the actual name of the thing.

      Any vegetable you mix with salt or salt water brine and allow to culture is good. Besides sauerkraut, I love fermented green beans, and different colored cauliflower. Of course, cucumber pickles done in brine the old fashioned way are classic.
      If salt is an issue, draining the whey from a big batch of vegan yogurt works, and so does rejuvelac, a liquid made from fermenting sprouted wheat. Use them instead of brine.

    Why does this video completely ignore the role of blood sugar and insuline spikes in constant hunger and cravings while consuming a lot of carbs? Fruits make me ravenous, and I know I'm not the only one. They give a lot of people cravings, because those carbs don't keep you full.
    I've been eating whole foods for 2 years so processed foods and gut health have nothing to do with my inability to thrive on a HCLF diet. Now I actually thrive on a low-carb high-fat diet, because it keeps my blood sugar levels stable. Everyone's different, but some of us just aren't meant to eat a lot of carbs, even from whole foods. Eating a lot of fructose is actually a great way to get fatty liver... Blaming people's gut health when they're not happy on HCLF is borderline bigoted.
