I’m about to study this with about 5-10 men in a zoom group. I used to preach Romans as a pastor and read it often still. Oh I wish this book had been around 30 years ago. Thank you NT Wright

Great interview! Loved what your question was able to pull out of him and I was loving his answer but what happened at 39:46? He was saying something important but then it was interupted somehow. Thanks again for the great interview.

I’m not sure what happened. Check it out on the podcast and see if it’s better.

I do love and agree with the emphasis that the goal isn't to go to heaven, but that heaven has already come here.
But about final judgment: On the way to court, hasn't the believer already settled with the judge? Sure, all will be judged. But haven't we already been-and declared righteous? Even in Revelation, there is no coming court case for the living (the names in the book of life). The judgment is for the dead who are raised.

Which NT Wright book should I read first?

Great question. Assuming you're not interested in one subject he's written on more than others, I believe Surprised By Hope is his most popular, and for good reason.

It was once said that when it comes to the gospel of Jesus Christ, N.T. Wright is N.T. Wrong. That is as true today as the day it was first said. Jesus is willing to forgive N.T. Wright - and all those who believe the another gospel he teaches - but He will not do so in a manner that is counter to His Word. Jesus will not forgive sin that is not first forsaken. Fear God, repent and live!

You really need to be more specific, in my view. You make an overriding statement but don't follow it up with any examples. Sorry, but you sound rather ignorant.

@@markglassen The Truth does not need to be defended, only stated. It is up to the hearer to decide if they accept or reject the Truth upon hearing it. By God's gift of Freewill you (and I and all people) have been given the ability to choose to accept Truth or reject Truth (Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life; John 14:6), but you do not get to decide the consequences for the decisions you make. No. That is God's domain. If you accept the Truth and follow Jesus with the faith of a child, believing and obeying all things until death, then you shall spend eternity in heaven with God. If you decide to reject Truth and instead decide to follow your "instincts" and "opinions," then you shall spend eternity suffering anguish and torment in the fires of hell and the Lake of Fire. You have been warned! The choice is made by you; the consequences are assigned by God. Choose wisely!
The Gospel is like a caged lion. It does not need to be defended, it just needs to be let out of its cage." C.H. Spurgeon

Have you actually listened to Dr Wright or only to a pastor's rejection of his work?
You still haven't directly stated where you think he is so seriously in error that he needs to 'repent', and I know he wouldn't disagree with you about 'Jesus being 'the way, the truth and the life' (and indeed could explain in some detail how that works, not least by referencing Romans 8, the subject of this book) but your reference to the promise of the Gospel being 'to spend eternity in heaven with God' he would undeniably point out indicated that you hadn't listened to him - nor did read the Bible with the care to note what it, and not misleading preachers, actually says.
