Simple Storage Idea For Root Vegetables & Squash In The Kitchen | Kitchen Organize With Me!

- Today I'm sharing a simple storage idea for all my root vegetables, squash, onions and garlic in the kitchen.
I'm currently prepping my bulk food storage closet (video coming soon), so in the meantime I need a place to store a bulk supply of potatoes, squash, onions and garlic. I don't currently have a root cellar but that is also something I'm prepping for in the future. So until that happens, I'm trying to make the best use of my space and getting prepared.
Keeping your root vegetables out of sunlight and heat will keep them lasting longer. I'm currently woking on cleaning and re-organizing in preparation for the 2022 garden season in hopes that I'll need lots of storage space to store all the fresh things from the garden.
Let's clean and organize together now!
If you are interested in making all your produce last longer, be sure and check out this video:

I would suggest cutting bags 1"--1.5" taller and folding top edge down 1" or 1.5" to serve as a cuff making the top edge stronger and less likely to rip by leaving the top edge just a raw cut edge.
Thanks for the suggestion. I don’t know if the paper bags could handle all the pulling to fold them over, but worth a shot
Would you be interested in doing a firestarter tutorial? It's something I'd definitely watch.
I have one. I need to edit it. They are super easy
Great idea for deep drawers. I'm surprised you stored the onions in the drawer with the potatoes. I always thought those two should be far separated to avoid spoilage. No?
No you are correct. These onions were in there for less then 12 hours. It was temporary until I got them all chopped to freeze.
The drawer is being used for potatoes and root veggies only.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing!
I've always heard & read that onions should not be stored together with definitely potatoes (but maybe tomatoes too). Will the paperbags be enough to keep the gases that the onions release as they are growing from damaging your potatoes? I have such a small kitchen that I need to find ways to organize that works.
Yeah I should have said it’s just temporary until I cut all the onions and freeze. They are already out of the drawer.
My plan is to store them in my root cellar when I get that done. So I usually buy Onions in bulk, mince and freeze. I don’t have more then 1-2 left whole at a given time. And when I do, they are on the counter.
@@homemadeonourhomestead I've always wondered if I could dice my onions up & freeze. How long are they good for in the freezer? I'd love to have a root cellar!
@@ccnrps123 6 months but they get eaten quick!
We hardly have room. This looks good if you grow your own. Unfortunately we cannot. When we buy from supermarket they go bad in days. I think they are selling us stuff that’s nearly bad already by the time we buy. So frustrating.
Oh no really?! Have you tried storing them in the fridge? Does this still happen? So frustrating
I use to have the same problem then I switched to shopping for produce at the farmers market and everything lasts so much longer.
Would a small lunch-sized brown paper bag work in that smaller space?
What camera and editing tools do you use?
Hi there!!!! I think all of my stuff is listed in the video description. I use Final Cut Pro to edit.
