To Moises, beardies are omnivores, meaning they eat both vegetables and meat. There is soo much to know about them, what can go wrong, what can go right...we actually had my son do an essay before we got him one so he would truly know what he was getting into. The temperatures and humidity needs to monitored inside their terrarium, they need interaction and play time, they need to have baths, there's a lot. And everyone will have different opinions. For us, we used some leftover tiles from when my mother re-tiled her living room. Others like toilet paper, some do a loose substrate. With the loose substrate, you run into problems with impaction (constipation) which can lead to a lot of issues.
Basically, do lots of research for yourself, keep notes, purchase from a reputable breeder or pet store, and love on your beardie as much as possible!! Beware of the sleepy hormone they release as they sleep on you (I almost always fall asleep myself) and enjoy this amazing pet!!

@@CameronJPL of course it wasn’t okay that happened. but as a pet owner, especially on who wants their pet to not be on edge all the time and have the ability to be handled, there is the known risk that u cannot read the animal’s mind. once he realized what happened to his animal he quickly adjusted his actions and took the right steps to ensure the animals health and wellbeing was on the right track. no if he continues this action with his animals and it becomes a pattern that his reptiles and other animals are consistently stressed then there may be a need to reconsider if he should be owning pets. but i genuinely dont think any of his animals are in danger. he clearly cares for them and wants to do what is best for them, and i think his actions after the fact prove that.

@@JohanExoticGlobal i agree with you about there being alot of dated info on beardies and substrate. But what I will say is I always wish more people listened in particular to Australian reptile experts more often regarding stuff like this as we tend to have grown up observing them in the wild and then add in an Aussie with a reptile passion and expertise and then you have a huge advantage as a reliable information source as we can tell you in two seconds what information is dated; but sadly it’s often forgotten and sadly not even often recognised that these beautiful lizards are probably Australia’s best native animal and we get associated more with koalas and kangaroos while so many households around the world have one of our lovely animals not even knowing where they come from or not thinking to look for any information from us when it’s notoriously well known how good we are with wildlife exposure and Knowledge just growing up here. But Australians in the media world are often under recognised compared to other English speaking countries in general and it’s always upset me that with any other animal we listen to the people from its native country but not with bearded dragons…
The video you are recommending is a good one though. There are amazing sources for beardies from all over of course; but I think people should at least get at least a few Aussie sources of info in their UA-cam feed…

I had a feeling that over-handling a defensive animal(that doesn't have the mental capacity to grasp the idea of touch-for-comfort) would have a detrimental effect on its health. I feel like the best idea would have been, to sit next to your enclosure and scroll on your phone until it got comfortable with you being there.
Keep in mind, if you want a cuddly animal, get a cat or a dog! Don't get a reptile just because YOU WANT to handle it. This is a really good example of why you shouldn't try to force a small dinosaur to love you.(especially when it is clearly so terrified)
I'm very proud of this guy for taking accountability for his actions, and putting a example out there, as to why you should always do research into your animals before getting them. And make sure the animal you are getting meets the "requirements" that YOU are looking for. THAT WAY you don't end up forcing requirements on an animal, that can't make up the difference.

    • @oddnamechoice
      @oddnamechoice Рік тому

I don't mean any hate with these comments. I love your channel and what you do.
But you can't use a pig as a plow horse. Accept the animal that you're dealing with, for it is. It's a lizard. And if it comes to lay on your hand, or your leg, it's probably after body heat. 🤷‍♀️
But don't force social interaction with an animal that doesn't NATURALLY like social interactions with "gigantic possibly predatory mammals"
Because in the end, that's all you are to that terrified young lizard.

Best way to tame a reptile is giving them space, let them get comfortable with you. Walk around the enclosure frequently, try to stay out of the enclosure unless necessary. Once they’re less darty and don’t act defensive with you walking around the enclosure then you can start to be a little more intrusive. It takes time, birds are even worse, pretty much have to let them fly around until they approach you. Even then, doesn’t mean they’re ready to be held.

I only saw number 44 and it was really hard to watch, but I saw what the vet tech said and your reply and this video now makes me so happy!! sometimes you're afraid to post a video because of how people might react but it's a very good thing you did!!!

My beardie was defensive enough to bite the crap out of me but I've been working on it like getting her out with a towel (holding it like a pillow) and just sitting on the bed with her for 10 minutes.

I'm glad she's doing better! We were all worried for the little beardy.
It sucks when you have medical emergencies like that even when you're doing your best to take care of the animal.
Good luck to both of you.

Man, there's a lot of cool reptiles, and they really are good and mysterious sometimes. But I hope she does well. The other video had me worried, and I may not have subscribed, but if I see more that I'm glad about, I'll subscribe. I hope you guys do well

But my favorite animal is a rat.
I've had many and they've all had silly and awesome personalitys.

She looks MUCH MUCH better! Thank you for listening to your vet and changing her environment! Loose substrate isn't really the best, eating enough of it will make them impacted :( I now use a silicone sheet/pad that fits the bottom of the enclosure - FIRST thing though, let it "gas out" hung in a windy area so the fumes that come with most all man-made/chemical products go away. This type of pad is great because it is easy to clean, soft, and their little claws give them traction without getting caught.

    Hi there,
I had a bearded dragon that we potty trained. This is how we figured it out. We gave our beardy a bath every morning and he loved it. The big plus is that he would use the bathroom in the bath every morning. In return I only had to change the substrate once a week maybe twice becuase he no longer pooped on the substrate. I hope you will give this a try for yours!

There’s sand in pet store. It’s that white desert sand. It’s super good for him. It won’t hurt. Damn it’s like they’re all real environment and they’ll really like it. It’s super good for him. My two bearded dragons love it including my one that’s gonna have eggs so I met them in doubt for bearded dragons. You should try it for yours.
