I had this on my wishlist for aaaaages. Today I took one sniff at their EULA, and it's on my wishlist no longer. DRM, no derivative works (you read that right, YT vids about the game are againts EULA language, you need the express permission of the studio), and automatic exclusive license to the studio for everything you do with the game cause it may record your gaming sessions WAIT WHAT!?

Totally agree about that price point. At $39cdn it is quite expensive for what you get, especially with games like PalWorld, Helldivers 2 and Manor Lords ($50 but 25% off for the first two weeks so $38cdn currently) all at roughly the same price point.
You could always wait for the steam summer sale, etc. These developers should know better by now and plan their pricing to line up with those sales.

Sure, space is dark, but you also don't control your actions from 50 feet over your head in an omniscient viewpoint.
Besides which your eyes can figure things out in the dark much better than your computer monitor can.
Give people a decent bit of time in complete darkness and they will be able to spot a single photon. The human eye is amazing, though sometimes it's also amazingly stupid.

that's something they tell you but is completely useless in reality.
its true a photon will trigger a never reaction. you know what else will? a non photon.
the signal to noise ratio of your visual processing system is way too low for you to be able to TELL you saw a single photon.

I think I vaguely remember you covering this game a while ago, and I feel like it hasn't changed much since then? I would need to go watch the other video to be sure. Good premise for a game, but this still needs a lot of work. I hope the devs keep at it.

You can automate the suit lockers to refill O2 by constructing the relevant upgrade for the lockers in the build menu. It takes some advanced resources though IIRC.
Any time I look at a game I might get or a game I have in my Steam library that I've not tried out in a long time I look for a Splattercat demo. I literally was just looking at Pioneers in my library as I got it when it went EA and barely touched it. Hits the spot Cat. Thanks.
Good review. This game has been living on my wish list for ages. I love the idea of it but it just seems lacking in some aspects...which was exactly what you just pointed out. I also worry a bit about replayability to be honest.
I like the idea of the game. I will probably wish list it and wait to see what it looks like when it is done. I have too many early access titles that never get any real updates or improvements. Thanks for posting this. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses

Important things, like finding a crewmate which could not be saved after 24h, should have a clear path.
Like, in Rimworld you can see the entire map. If thats not possible here, then at least give us some rough coordinates or directions.
I am 100% sure there is or will be some sort of craftable flashlight. It just makes sense. I like the concept of the game but i agree about the price tag. On another note this game kinda resembles what i imagine barotrauma would be like if it was a 3d game.

Mmm...I find the general vibe, concept, and style to be interesting and aesthetic. That said, not sure if game is worth getting as is. But if it is polished and expanded more, that would make it more worthwhile, to say the least.
Gives me some Ragnorium vibes. I'd like the ability to have more people though, because it's far too limiting otherwise.
Some people who enjoy video games DONT have (functioning) eyeballs.
Not to say they dont make games better.. But not stricktly a requirement..

pre-ordered game a while back (after your 1st vid) I like idea of game but yea the game needs a lot more work, before i consider continue playing.
It doesn’t look like a lot of progress has been made since the last time you did a video on this game. I like the concept but I don’t like how much micro management is needed. Also seeing how long the game has been in this state I will wait till it comes out of early access before buying

Seems to be this is more like some of the open world zombie survival games where you build a base, but your base location is pre-determined and there aren't any zombies. 😂😂 You're running around, finding leftover supplies from the trip to the location, then transitioning to crafting or growing what you need to live.

Clicking a mouse multiple times to accomplish one task does not simulate the harsh living conditions from being marooned in space. It is simply annoying. I am always amazed that this argument keeps coming up.

Thanks Splat! I have had this for awhile, and I know It recently got an update (rover etc.). It´s actually In It´s final phase of EA If I recall, but If you´re only showing the Initial game start one might think that´s all there Is to It which Is not the case! As far as automation goes, I am afraid I don´t agree. Basically because you will only get about 9 crew members that you will need to manage, which Is not like overwhelming, and because players have become VERY lazy when It comes to doing anything! They call It Instant gratification! Sure, while the older folks do the real work, ya catch my drift? More so, If It was automated, what would be left for you to do, watch? This Is not Rimworld! Anyhow, It´s a cool chill game set In space which Is much my jam. Again thanks for the upload.
I feel as if I have seen ***YOU*** play this game before but you did not reference that. It appears to be no further along than the last time I watched a vid about it wherever that may have been. That was at least six months ago. AND this is listed as being "Early Access" but it is still $30..... I LOVE the idea.... I do NOT like the slow rate of progress and the money they are asking ME to give them on a "promise" of it getting better.
(Dates of last reviews added: Most recent 2023/01/20 and the first time 2021/10/11) So other than the UI/portraits (which is the same since 2023) I see little to no differences in the three videos.

I give some slack to indie games using AI art, specially if it's early access. most of the time in those cases good art doesn't even matter and they could be using ascii for all I care. so AI art is a nice help when they need to get their game out there before they can hire dedicated artists. it's the people with budget trying to minimize expenses and maximize profit that bugs me. or quasi-scammers that are basically making asset flips with extra steps.
How is the mid game here? Can you get more people?
I actually think having ultra dark nights with zero visibility is way more interesting gameplay-wise. Just having day and day(blue) provides no meaningful difference in how you have to approach the game.
i remember this from last year but the map still looks like crap, why i can see the place where the floor texture ends and the next starts? nobody checked that?? its been a year man wtf
The mentioning of no rubber band grouping ability bothers me, especially for the asking price of this game.
I usually go for drill as second so no need to mine manually. however I've disliked game osme itme ago not for AI voice/portraits (as to some extend they can be accepted, eg as place-holders) but to the fact that game have time limit. Each day, conditions of moon (Lo?) are getting worse. This effectively will lead to kill everyone/base destruciton.
If they decided to add some endless mode then perhaps I would re-consider.

The split between base stuff and mission stuff isn't as obvious but it's kinda their with needing to put the suit on/off before hand

Buyed this game few month ago, pretty boring as colony survival rn. Always same map but with different placed items in same spots. Replayability can be renamed into levelgrind like in korean mmo

Tried the demo a long time ago and as you say it is clunky controls, too dark, and terrible at giving you any help tutorial wise....
It is quite pretty, but being honest looks like a $5 game you pick up in 3 years time when its dead to pass a few hours... not a premium price game. If it had a way better story and loads more content and things to do (like in Planet Crafter for example) it'd be ok, but it is so linear lacking replay-ability it's an easy pass.

AI art is theft but the big AI guys own congress so nothing is gonna be done against the thieves... because the thieves are billionaires. But yeah, every language model is based on stolen assets from millions of people and they should all be charged with crimes. Congress are old fossils who dont know how any technology works and the few that do are paid off to dont notice all the crimes committed. Thats what happens when you live in a gerontocracy. A corrupt one at that. Technology advances way too fast for governments to keep up. Even more so when every single politician has no idea what internet or computers or ai or copyright laws work or why they should be completely rewritten.

AI voices save the developer a ton of money, this helps development and also the overall cost of the game. So, its pretty badass IMO.

Man, you make these so hard to watch sometimes. At 20:50 it said air bottles, not air battles. That made me cringe pretty hard. And at 05:05 you saw the other pod then later you instantly forgot and started looking around trying to find it in the opposite direction. I get you probably play so many of these games that your mind is probably on auto mode. But it's just hard to watch. But oh well. Probably going to get hit with so many "who cares" comments. I guess after writing this I realise that I don't actually care that much.

Aside from the potential of AI involvement in this project, the idea is really cool. The concept of a low scifi survival game where your life depends on making crack in-the-moment decisions is really exciting.
I know better than to get excited for a scifi indie game though...
I can understand using AI assets as an alternative for placeholder assets, as long as it is disclosed. A small studio (or solo dev) might not have the money to pay artists, modelers, writers, etc what they deserve, especially when starting out. However, the price should reflect that as well. If the game is successful enough to replace the AI work, then raise the price and offer a "supporter's pack DLC" for people who like and already bought the game and want to send some money to the creative hires. To me, this seems like a possible compromise, especially for solo/tiny indie teams.
Having just watched a feature video about the latest Unreal Engine release, it seems like new engine capabilities eliminate jobs for animators and designers too (can do more with less employees), but it's not as new as AI and we're used to that kind of incremental change. I don't think people should overreact against AI tools, but agree it is a concern that needs to be addressed.
