    This helps a lot, thank you Robert. There is surprisingly little content on GR vs GT86 on YT and the little there is really isn't half nearly as detailed as your vid. Better stability control system on the new one is really tempting.

    Different between GR86 and GT86 is night and day. New GR is overall next level. It's more comfortable, no more torque dip, more powerful, better new interior, lot stiffer, better on track, better on country roads, better in city driving. And it looks lot better and adult, not like hot wheels car for kid's... That's a reality, only 1 thing is better in GT86, and that is steering feel

    Other reviewers have said the 1st gen has better steering.

      Driven both, I agree that the 1st Gen has better steering feel. It does have a more raw driving feel, although it is slower.

    Just picking up on your comment about the 86 not having gas struts for the bonnet. The stay seems to work OK, is there any advantage in having gas struts (that will eventually fail) beyond convienience?
    I'm a fan of 'simple that works'.

    • @L2SFBC
      @L2SFBC  Рік тому +1

      I suppose not as the struts would be heavier too. But I like them as cars like that have their bonnet opened more frequently, so the convience helps a little.

    I've always favoured Subaru over the Toyota. The new BRZ is available too, any chance you can have a test run with the BRZ to see if there are any differences besides the badge Robert?

    • @L2SFBC
      @L2SFBC  Рік тому

      Unlikely - from what I've seen there are more differences than in the previous gen, but I don't imagine they'd play out in massively significant ways driving. I'd go the BRZ on price and availability!

    That Toyota logo in the steering wheel is a little bit too much for me. I love the 86 badge on my catfish.

    Hi
    thanks for this test, very useful
    can you advise on the following:
    I plan to buy old model GT86 for mainly trackday use
    Should something be changed or is stock OK ?
    I am reading about oil cooling issues ?
    Would buy the second gen.

      Change the pads to track/street and the fluid to high performance. Get a second set of wheels and fit track street tyres such as A052s see my review on them. Then have fun!

      thx
      how much time you rest the car after 20min tracktime ?
      and how many repetitions a day ?
      so no extra oil cooler needed?

    Robert,
    still not clear to me if the old GT86 needs an oil cooler for track day use ?
    Does your GT86 have one ?
    Reading the Internet, most say it does need an oil cooler & other engine oil
    pls advise

      People do compare the two and if you just want a cruise car you may choose either. But as I said...it' won't have the dynamics.
