low profile tires are good for show and cornering fast. but real world use, literally everything else, high profile is better. your suspensions will thank you. you car will last longer, you will be more comfortable, potholes here and there won't break your wheels or tires easily. high profile for the win for everyday use.
I ride on 205/55R16 brilliant tyres are super cheap even for premium one and they are comfortable quiet and don't burst the second they see a pothole. Once you hit 225/40R18 and anything below you start to encounter serious issues.
@@gravemind6536yes and no for example I have low profile on the summer tire 245/45r18 and on the winter tire I have 205/60 r16 but believe on high speed more than 170km/h (I live in Germany so it is legal) the low profile is more better and the stability also but if you run under 130km/h will be no diference 🤔.
wide tyres in the dry have better traction , more grip in acceleration and braking , however can aquaplane in wet conditions so they need larger water dispersion grooves and softer rubber for performance in the wet .

Did the same. Recommendations for my Jaguar is 235/50/17 and I went one lower in profile. 45. Works really well. No problems. They also recommend 225/50/17 which is fairly close to my 235/45/17.
Back in the day, the standard hi profile tires for my Geo Metro were 155/80s. They were more than double the cost of the 'lo' profile 175/75s I was willing to pay for. Sometimes low profile can be a bargain.
Matt , i have a VW beetle with a shortened pan. Car weighs about 1000 lbs.. Engine is stock. should i go back to stock rims. Wanted 14s but cant find them for sale anywhere. Currently has 16s with low profile tires. Just for weekend driving on the roads. Im afraid the car will ride too rough. Putting a shortened and channeled Austin America body on it The car is 11ft long by 6 ft wide 5 ft heigh.
Low profile tires don't hurt your fuel economy. The sidewall flex is wasted energy, so a high profile tire can hinder economy more than a low profile tire if the pressure is low. i went from 215/75-15 to 215/40-18 & my Jeap got significantly quicker.
Not true because having low profile tyres means having bigger wheels which weigh more so you have more unsprung mass which will kill performance and fuel economy. Metal weighs more than rubber and air, low profile tyres also have less straight line grip and traction.
@@gravemind6536 also, my comment was regarding the effect when pressure is low, and the tall tire sidewall does squish more than low profile tire, because a shorter sidewall takes more weight to deform.
@@gravemind6536 not always true. I went to larger wheels and cut 26 lbs because they are flow formed. On top of that, tires for larger wheels at the same total diameter are lighter. Add them together.
I know a guy who is riding on 19 inch rims and refuses to change them, 255/30R19 at the rear and 225/35R19 at the front, every 6 month he has a tyre go bang and he does 5k miles a year and it costs him £90 a pop. I told a work collegaue I liked their car but the wheels ruin it he questioned me on why and I said 20 inch rims are awful and the second he hits a pothole it will go bang and potentially take the suspension with it I told him the known rule that tyres are 70% of a cars suspension. 3 Months after I told him the 20s were a mistake he came to me and said you were right he hit a pothole and a new tyre and suspension cost him £1k. I have had zero issues on my 205/55R16 tyres.
Toyota fitted 55 aspect tyres to my latest landcruiser from the factory, Morons . changed them to 65 great ride. Cornering and acceleration, what's that on a landcruiser!
my 100 bhp 05 ford focus ghia has 205/55 16" tyres is perfect... dont need lower and wider tyres on that ride... it handles like a gocart, but 50 more horses would make that car eaven more fun to drive, lower and wider tyres just mean loss of power an increased fuel consuption in my case....
He's not that's the funny part. Notice he said standard daily driver, meaning stock. No upgraded suspension for ride quality or any other upgrades. So it's you that doesn't know his head from a hole in the ground.
You forgot to mention that hitting a pothole with low-profile tyres can destroy the rims as well.

Steel wheels and a good amount of sidewall works for me - crappy roads in my part of the world, plus I like the sleeper look.

I prefer to go on a height a bit lower than the manufacturer's recommended tyre height, it's usually somewhere in-between low and high profile 😅.
Went the other way 215 60 16 to 216 6516. Higher gearing , comfy ride😅.

On a every days car, you just break you'r suspension.
What is I wanna go from 15 inch to 20 inch on my 2000 dodge Durango?
Thank you

As usual, the ideal is in between, with the tyre pressure to suit the conditions and your driving style.
low profile is for those that do not understand the world they live in.

Wheels and tyres are SO important. I hate low profile tyres with a passion..... and don't talk to me about those ugly diamond cut wheels!!
It sounds like this guy has been doing lots of reading, but never actually driven on the tyres he's talking about. What a load of B.S.

I think they look like crap.
