  • Brylcreem (/ˈbrɪlkriːm/) is a British brand of hair styling products for men. The first Brylcreem product was a hair cream created in 1928 by County Chemicals at the Chemico Works in Bradford Street, Birmingham, England.
    It was first advertised on television with the jingle "Brylcreem - A Little Dab'll Do Ya! Brylcreem - You'll look so debonair. Brylcreem - The gals'll all pursue ya; they'll love to run their fingers through your hair!".
    Another version was "Brylcreem-a little dab will do ya! Use more only if you dare; but watch out! The gals will all pursue ya! They'll love to run their fingers through your hair!"
    The jingle was created by Hanley M. Norins of the Young & Rubicam advertising agency. The television advertisement for Brylcreem included a cartoon animation of a man with (initially) shaggy hair, who happily has a little dab applied, and, miraculously, the hair combs and smooths itself.
    When the dry look became popular, partly inspired by the unoiled moptops of the Beatles, the last line was changed from "They'll love to run their fingers through your hair", to "They'll love the natural look it gives your hair". Subsequent television advertisements used the mottoes "Grooms without gumming" and later, in the 1970s, in the United Kingdom and Canada, "A little dab of Brylcreem on your hair gives you the Brylcreem bounce".

    Ever hear about "Greasers"? Brylcreame in excessive amounts in the hair enabled it to be sculpted into duck-tails and pompadours. These were the pre-boomer crop of kids born in the 30s and 40s.

    I don't know how this little jingle ended up popping into my head but I'm glad it did because this is quite amusing

    I thought his hair looked better when he emerged from under the car.
    But I'm an old Gen-Xer, what the hell do I know? 😂

      This Gen-Xer agrees! And lady, he was under a freaking car working on it. Did she expect him to pop out of there perfectly coiffed? 😆

      Gotta remember fellow Gen-Xer this was the 50's this is all they had. Our time saw the over use of Hair Spray for ladies and Gel for men. So really it did the same but our shirt collars were cleaner.

      I’m sure you don’t know much, half the gen-ex generation can’t do simple math equations without a calculator.

      I quite agree with you on that. His hair looked clean and natural even though he was working on his car there, didn't look bad at all.

      Agreed. His hair looked perfectly fine without the hair cream. The wet head is dead.

    My nick name my Mom called me growing up was Bryl. My family slicked up like that for Church on sundays.

    If you mix it with butchwax you can get a nice pompador.
    Don't use more than a dime sized blob or it will make it hard to control.
    Use all the butchwax you want

    I'm a geezer. I keep a tube of this around to tame my hair when I need a haircut but can't get to the barber. It is also good for my big fuzzy beard. Yes, just a little dab 'l do ya. Anybody know where the 60's color ad is that had a NY penthouse with three girls in it?

    I was a Score man, myself.

      Indeed. Score men's hair dressing was the finest product out there. It had a really great fragrance to it, and it was a micro emulsion hair dressing that worked with water to train your hair nicely. Unfourtionally, it's no longer manufactured or available anymore. The very best hair products that worked the best always get taken off the market and are no longer available. That's really sad.

    His hair looked quite fine when he came out from underneath his car, nothing at all wrong with the way it looked.

    I'm pretty sure this is what Patrick Bateman Used for his hair. I'll make sure to avoid it so I don't become a edge lord or a schizophrenic.

    This is so funny! He goes from having a GREAT head of hair that most guys would envy into this GREASEBALL with pasted-down slickened greasty stuff - get your fingers in THAT?? Like an oil slick.

      It's one thing to use this hair dressing sparingly, and in his case, once a week is sufficient as he's blessed with a beautiful looking head of hair, only that small application would work best, not the whole tube.

      You’re looking at it from a 21st century perspective. The “dry” and casual (“bed head”) look wasn’t considered attractive in the 1950s.

    • @danbasta3677
      @danbasta3677 Рік тому +1

      @@joeltunnah Not the 50's anymore though. It's good to use something to comb your hair with, no doubt as it makes it easier for you to comb your hair, however using only a small application of this product is all ya need. Some guys put the whole tube of the product in their hair, which isn't necessary.

      if you've ever seen 'grease' the movie... well, they're referring to the grease in the hair. The equivalent today would be a SUV - it's a weird, idiotic trend which seems ok at the time because everyone else is doing it too.

    Gotta love these commercials. Assuming women judge a guy on his car and his hair, and men dumb enough to fall for it.

    • @danbasta3677
      @danbasta3677 28 днів тому

      True. Then again, that's a female for ya. They also judge you by the amount of money you have in both your bank account and in your wallet. And as I have always said, If you've got the money, you get the honey. No money? No honey.
