There is two different style gaskets. One for the plastic m52 /s52 style . Then the m50 style gasket for the metal cover. As far as your rubber grommit bushings looking different, its because there are two different styles. The standard one and the "vanity " grommit shows a little less rubber if your washers have the lip that curves over the grommit.
The center bolts, in the spark plug vally, have a different heigh vs. The outer ones. If you put a short outer one in the center, you can damage the cover. ( ask me how I found out )
Hey man thanks for checking the channel out! Was it an excessive amount? If youre worried u could probably put the valve cover and inspect/check if there was some excess that fell into the engine

Wouldn't it be easier to fit the gasket into the valve cover first, then lay the valve cover with gasket together as whole onto the head

The metal m50 valve cover is flat. The gasket lays aginst it, but not in it like the plastic cover. Two different style gaskets as well.
I feel like i used a little much rtv on the places that i needed to put it in and im worried it clogs the oil pick up straw does it matter?
