Troy Aikman was a first round draft choice, the first pick overall. Neil O'Donnell was a third round pick. There was a big difference between Troy's ability to play quarterback, and Neil's. Troy Aikman is a Hall Of Fame QB. Neil O'Donnell had success with the Steelers, because he had a very good team around him. At the time, the Steelers ran Ron Erhardt's power run offense, out of the I-formation. The Steelers had an excellent offensive line, and great running backs. The successful running game took much of the pressure off of the quarterback. When O'Donnell became a free agent, and went to the Jets, it was a different story. He didn't last very long with them.
"You remember the winning quarterbacks, you don't remember the losing quarterbacks" -Neil O'Donnell .... yeah, uh... we remember you. Just not in a good way...
Most Steeler fans I know may never forgive Neil O'Donnell, but the Steelers wouldn't even have made it to the Super Bowl that year without him. He was better than any other quarterback on the roster and it took the team another 10 years just to make it back. Sure he played a bad game that day, but the rest of the team still nearly overcame that. They were climbing year by year, and I believe they could have won it all the next year... with O'Donnell at quarterback.

Those INTs actually weren’t his fault. Most people don’t realize that.

Who knew Aikman and Collinsworth would wind up sharing a broadcast booth a few short years later?

Chris: “Is Barry a good football coach?”
Troy: “I don’t know”
