glad i was a kid in the 70's..loved my Tonka trucks although i only had one or two..they were expensive for my mom to buy..so much better than I-Phones that kids have today..they also helped develop a kids imagination..

I grew up in the early 2000s and I played with some of the 30+ year old Tonkas that my uncles and cousins had when they where younger.

I can't get over my love for Tonka trucks. Growing up in the early 2000s I played with older ones that my relatives gave me. I don't have many trucks but some of the ones I do have are 30+ years old. I don't play with them anymore but I still have them in my backyard as "yard art." I like to say that it's my old retired construction company and that they abandoned there vehicles.

That is so cool! I own quite a few of those, from the early 60s. I have a dragline, 3 jeep gladiator pick up, one dump truck, and a mint in box wheel loader. Tonka's are great chilhood toy's. Love them! That's a great collection there! Wow!😎👍

Has that collection ever been appraised? I'm surprised he leaves a lot of those trucks to rust outside in the elements. Still, this sure brings back some memories of my youth when I used to play with Tonka trucks on a regular basis. One of my favorites was a Chevron tanker-trailer that you could fill with water and dispense through a little black rubber hose as though you were dispensing fuel oil. Then I had a black-and-beige 4WD with wheels you could detach. I think I also had an orange flatbed with a crane that could swivel from side to side. I'm also certain I had a crane with a scoop you could raise and lower and pick up dirt with. Being a kid in the seventies and eighties was about as awesome as it could get! I regret not keeping those trucks. They would've looked cool on display shelves in my house.

I grey up playing with these Tonka trucks as a kid I'm 40 now. A few years ago a friend of mine here in NYC got hired to clean out a basement he told me when he entered the basement he could barely open the door behind was thousands of packed from floor to ceiling all Tonka trucks in boxes. All on the walls were shelves with all the jeeps fire trucks he mentioned all the first tonkas on display to make a long story short it took him all day to clear the basement and loaded everything in a big uhaul truck n took them to a dumpster.
When he got home later that evening he said he saw on the news a reporter at the dumpster where he had thrown away all the boxes of Tonka trucks there were several guys on camera hoping in the garbage bin taking the boxed Tonka trucks out.
When he told me this story about 6 months later my heart sank and I thought he was lying to me and inlet insisting for him to tell me if it was a bad joke.
He was then told me the owner of the house had paid him 500 dollars to empty out the basement.
I still call him a dumb sob till this day. I have ever met a person as retarded as my friend Damien Hollingsworth.

Think it was 1963 when they made the first Mighty Dump Truck. I reckon with all those parts we could slavage a few and re do them :). Nice story and a nice guy wonder what will become of it when he passes.

He might have a ton of Tonka toys but a collection is only worth the same as the care you take in preserving it
Therefore he also has a ton of rusting crap

¿Por qué alguien querria tener una gran colección de camiones clásicos pudriendose enel patio? Se supone que son piezas que deben conservarse para que las generaciones futuras las disfrutemos y aprendamos del pasado.
