Absolutely agree. I love creating. But glad my day job pays the bills. I think that not having to stress on money gives me more freedom to create what I want.

Yes. And one day if your creative work really takes off, you'll know it's time to make that jump. Too many try to force it.

I’ve been going through this exact thing for the past couple years. Thought I needed to start an art based business, which I closed a year later because it took so much of my time, energy, and income to run.
The right perspective is worth so much.

Yes, it does. I've basically tried to stay focused on making things and I'll let the results come at their own pace.

Great video. I had all the same feelings and came to similar conclusions. I had been (effectively) unemployed for many months and couldn't settle on a project because I had put too much pressure on myself to choose and complete one that could bring income. Now that I have a day job, it's harder to find any time, but I feel a LOT less pressure from, and generally more interest in, creation/design/art projects.

It's tough, but I am glad you're feeling less pressure! I hope you can get making progress on your projects. Keep doing whatever you can each day!

Great advice! Your perspective can really change how you feel about your situation. I also liked how you mentioned not filling your time with other art endeavors like commissions, for so long I've felt like I had to want to do commissions, because that's what artists on the internet do, but only recently I've realized it's ok that I don't actually enjoy doing them and would prefer to put my energy into my own projects (although the extra freelance income here and there is still helpful)

Oh yeah. I was pretty relieved when I jettisoned commissions from my pursuits. They are fun sometimes, but I felt that focusing on books would matter much more in the long run. I still do some once in awhile, but not when I’m in production mode on a book.
      Hope you’re doing well!

I've been also staying away from commissions even if I could go and draw them all the same. For the asking prices I've seen around, I'd rather keep freelancing on my field of expertise (tech) and keep practicing art without the pressure of profiting off it.

Outside the day job, do you have a certain # of hours you set aside for personal projects each day?

I generally get about 2-4 hours a day in on other projects. The comic usually takes up all of that.
