This rare, documented R code Torino Cobra underwent a complete rotisserie restoration less than 300 miles ago. Documented with Marti report.
EXTERIOR: The body was soda blasted bare on a rotisserie. The body is really straight. Look down these long sides and there's not a ripple, it's smooth even along the bottoms. Repainted the original Royal Maroon color and it is polished out with the glass reflection, looks like a maroon mirror. Paint formula is included. It has the Cobra Jet 428 emblems on the hood scoop and Cobra emblems on each fendor. Overall the trim looks really nice. Upfront the moldings, bumper, headlight bezels look new. The grill is good original. Stainless around the windshield and roof was polished. Door handles, 1/4 louvers look rechromed. In back the tail panel is painted black, the trim is good original. The bumper is rechromed, taillights are mint. The door jambs are painted very nicely, the weather strips and sill plates were replaced. New 15 inch chrome Cragar wheels with new Firehawk tires.
INTERIOR: I'm sitting in the car, it is restored very nicely. The seats are reupholstered, cushions feel good. In the center of the bucket seats the console is in real nice condition. It is missing the shift indicator. Dash pad is in nice shape. There is a tachometer neatly installed, and a gauge cluster below. The carpets have been replaced and there is a set of Cobra embroidered mats. It's original seatbelts front and back are present. Overhead has a new headliner, visors and mirror. All the trim, the rear package shelf looks very good.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It has a correct 428 Cobra Jet motor that's been completely rebuilt, has receipt. Professionally tuned by Heiges Performance. It does have upgraded Edelbrock aluminum heads and factory Ford 427 aluminum intake and a 750 Holley carb. All new MSD ignition system including the distributor, coil and wires. It even has the adapter so the tachometer works. Dressed up with some finned aluminum valve covers. The engine compartment features power steering and power brakes. All the components look really proper and fresh. It runs cool with a Champion polished aluminum radiator, clutch fan and polished overflow bottle. The metal is real nice, painted satin black. The hood scoop is cut open to allow fresh air in. Other details include Autolite radiator hoses, reproduction clamps, washer bottle is hooked up to the squirters, wiper motor, the rubber seal is on the core support, the battery is secured.

    Beautiful.
The Cobra was a stand alone model based on the Fairlane base model.
It was introduced to compete directly with the Road Runner.

Had one new in 1969, red with black interior just like this one. Upped my status in high school bigtime! My Momma bought it for herself and me. Had a great time in this one and only got one speeding ticket when I took her out to see what she would do, just that one time. Got up to 155mph and slowed down. The state trouper gave me a ticket for doing 100 but he also wanted to look under the hood if I didn't mind...LOL Loved that car!!! BTW, in 1969 this car was $4,200 New!!!

I rebuilt a 1970 Torino Cobra, 429SCJ, ram air, top loader 4 speed in 1980. Bought the car in pieces from a guy for $600.00! Everything including the engine was stripped down. He ran out of cash or time and sold it as it sat. It took me 9 months of solid work to get back on the road. I painted it a 1980 olds red...B8217LM, Autumn Maple Firemist Metallic. Sold it in 1990. Worst decision I ever made letting it go. Loved that Torino.

Hi Jay. You must have liked this one Jay, over 11minutes! Well that is a fabulously well restored motor . Was it restored buy the same guy who did the '65 fast back ? Certainly has that same quality and attention . Do l assume the Mustang restorer wishes to remain anonymous? The body and paint finish reminds me of one of mine . ( not really trying to be big headed but l have done and still do top drawer stuff . But at 68 very slowly!) Well , if you can't afford the '65 this is definitely a very nice alternative . Why do people winge about having to go to your other site for pictures or moaning that it's sold ? Beats me. I think we should be happy and grateful that you and your team go to all this trouble. Maybe the Covid blues ? Thanks Jay and team.

I could be wrong, but I believe only the SCJ with a shaker scoop had RamAir

    • @Johnnycdrums
      @Johnnycdrums Рік тому +1

The combination of options were almost endless and changed every year.
68' thru 69' Cobras had seemingly almost endless option combinations.
All Cobras could be optioned up anyway you wanted, but all badging,
whether Fairlane, Fairlane 500, Torino, or Torino GT trim was removed and replaced with the Cobra Snake.
Apparently you could get a Cobra without Ram Air, and I know for a fact SCJ could be purchased without Shaker Hood, although I don't know if all SCJ motors had Ram Air.
This looks like a non Ram Air Cobra because I think the hood scoop is fake.
Additionally, just because it's a 428 doesn't necessarily make it a Cobra, apparently this one is because it has a blacked out grill and the snake emblems, although we didn't see the entire interior.
All Cobras had heavy duty sway bar with or without the GT package, SCJ had disc brakes std., I think.
SCJ has an oil cooler and bigtime upgraded internals as std.
SCJ was and automatic upgrade when ordering 3.91:1 or 4.30:1 rear differential.
