After installing the tachometer in our previous video, it is time to take the 2005 Piaggio Typhoon 50cc 2-stroke out for a spin and record baseline measurements. Your results may vary depending where you live and how your dealer prepared the bike for you. This is what we found:
What RPM does it accelerate at? 7300RPM
What top speeds are we getting? 34-38mph
If you want your bike to bury the speedo needle like ours did, subscribe and stay tuned for future episodes. We will show you how to destrict the bike from factory, install the Leo Vince ZXR exhaust, open up the intake, and modify the transmission. Come along with us as we transform this little 50cc scooter from a slow and boring bike to a fast and peppy machine that it should've been from factory.

hahaha I think I still like the ruckus more. Ruckus sits a lot lower and doesn't look like a scooter.

I've got two scooters standing around at my house. A Piaggio Free that is ancient and a Sachs/Peugeot Limbo, which is ancient as well. They both never blew up and run well. Unlike popular opinion, you can have so much fun on scooters. Especially if you know how to wheelie them :D
    Much love from Germany

Very true Tim. Scooters are extremely fun in their own respect and should never be compared with bigger motorcycles as people often do. They are completely different. Apples and oranges.

My friend bought a 2013 Aprilia SR50 (Piaggio motor) and when he went to put a pipe on it, there is a bracket welded on the frame where the header snakes around to stop tuned pipes fitting. He had to take a big hammer and break the weld off to fit it. I don't know what they are doing now to stop tuning, but in some european countries it is illegal to tune scooters and they are cracking down on it more.

Oh wow, they are really trying hard to crack down on scooter tuning over there aren't they? Here in North America, the government isn't as strict because there's not enough scooters on the road to matter.

It's mostly down to the fact that tree hugging environmental types say it causes too much 'polution' when in fact it's such a small percentage of the population riding them (mostly kids before they are old enough to get car licence) that it wouldn't even rate a single percentile. The thing that the cops crack down most n over in france and germany is the top speed, because the scooters are suppose to be limited to do only 50 kilometres per hour. I saw a video (It was so long ago , I forget the name sorry) They pull over scooter riders and put their bike on a mini portable dyno thing that goes in their car boot. There were a few of them pulled over there, the first two go on and squeeze by (just) and then the third guy is measured, and his bike is the whole hog, I'm talking Christofolini cylinders, Roost exhausts, Stage 6 overrange variators , the whole hog. Anyway, they wind his scoot out and it came to 168 kph! Needless to say, I think he was in for a great deal more than a ticket. He might have a twin cylinder kit on that bike actually. I'd love to do that one day, but being in Australia , parts just get so expensive by the time you buy the extra on currency conversion, freight and markup. I mean if I wanted to get to my dream of an Aerox that does 140 clicks - I could buy a decent roadbike for that sort of money! Sure, if I get a better job / more clients I might still do it. I will probably buy another aerox if I can find one that has never been dropped with nice fairings and is bone stock and just drop in a cheap Naraku 70 cylinder , a Stage 6 pro replica pipe and a cheap larger size roller performance variator / torque driver kit. This bike would be like my daily rider bike for just going and getting groceries or running to see a friend or client. I do plan to buy up all cheap Aerox's that are saveable and fix them up and sell them for profit though. My midrace cylidnjer that is coming soon, combined with the high end pipe that is actually rated to handle a cylinder with even more gnarly porting and my Top Performances Variator and Torque driver, I'm hoping that when I get it all tuned with a 21mm Dellorto phbg and primary and secondary gear kits - I'm hoping that I can get about 120 clicks out of it on the top end. The freeway I have to take for about 6 ks is 100kph in most parts so that would be mondo handy

shoominati23 you sure will! Very soon I'm going back to my Honda ruckus 150cc engine swap and documenting the whole build. Hopefully I can make a fun bike out of it as well

You should try a dellorto 17.5mm carb on your bike. It is the recommended carb really for your sort of mild setup and you will notice an instant improvement when you fit it, it will probably turn your scooter into a wheelie machine compared to the original carb lol. I',m fitting the 21mm black racing version of the same carb I just mentioned (Oh, and it has all the connections of the stock carb like chock cable, oil feed, vacuum line etc, so you don't need to tap into your manifold and add nipples for them etc which is kinda cool. Not going bigger than 21mm, as I kinda don't wanna put a tank in it every 2nd day. was even considering 19mm at one stage. Gonna have a mid race stylepro cylinder as it was the only cast iron cylinder that had the good porting and design and was affordable. Will have an SCR Corse handmade 70 exhaust cause I got a good deal on it and its suits my cylinder and as I said before, will take much more aggressive cylinder should I decide to go that way. already got the top performances trophy racing variator and torque driver on it's way and looking at gear up options as we speak. Will also add a decent inner rotor ignition system that still charges the battery and works lights. probably eventually go to a stage 6 overrange transmission kit. Only downside with that is you lose your electrical starter. Oh well, you gotta make concessions sometimes if you want SPEED ;) I'm gonna try a 42 / 14 secondary transmission gear I was recommended and see how I like it. I may not even need to change the primary, Will also eventually order a set of new fairings in WHITE! white looks good on every vehicle pretty much. It would look great with the stage 6 polished chrome wheels, but they are $$ and don't really increase performance. I'm getting a yamaha racing sticker kit off ebay to hide my shitty painting on my fairings for the time being.I will probably go with downhill bars, cooler looking mirrors and better brake levers when all is said and done.

Yup this bike is running a 17.5 Dellorto already! I like it a lot more than the 18mm Keihin CV carb found on the ruckus.
