I too am not a fan but with sone parts being too far gone and having to try to make new match the Origional patina it’s what I was felt with, didn’t match perfect but was close

@@1194video I know there will be a day when someone talks me into doing this exact thing for them. Its Really good information to have in my back pocket of techniques I can use to make it look right 👍

Iv tried many different techniques and this seems to be the most simple yet affective way both for looks and cost but dire take a bit of time to get the right affect

Just found out what a Patina paint job was today, I never heard of it. But it looks nice, I really like that. 🔥🔥🔥

Nice work, it looks good. I would have probably went with a matte or satin clear. Gloss clear over patina makes it look like fake patina IMO but thats an personal choice. Thanks for making the video.

To those seeing the haters... I used this method last night on my 74 international. I used the colors he used but I didn't have an orange so I used hammered copper. I used a heat gun to slightly set each layer of color and I did multiple coats. The key is to blend and texture. Speaking of texture,I was picking up sand from the floor and embedding it into my Scotch bright pad. I let the paint cure overnight then lightly knocked down the patina with 600 grit then finished the dulling with Scotch bright.
I had to do actual rust repair around the entire windshield lip. The roof area was pretty nasty. I replaced a lot of steel. I had to make my own repair panels. It's been a project! I painted the roof blue. I put this patina over one large corner, a smaller corner, I recreated the rusted area of the truck which was the original sign of rust rot, and I did some random pocks.
I'm 110% pleased with the results. The more effort and time you put into this method, I think, the more pleased you'll be with the result.

Very true, the sand method would definitely give it more of that aged effect

I painted sets for TV and Movies for many years we painted rust and all types of aging. Yes sets includes all type of cars and trucks and military equipment spaceships and I even worked on aging the Voyager spacecraft for the first Startrek movie. Black is a color not used for patina it's a color that appears in nature only when there has been a fire. You could try raw umber burnt umber of any other really dark brown. If I get a chance I could give you a couple of other pointers but keep going practice makes perfect or o they say.

It's better than taking paint off. Could even dab the fenders to make it match. Great job.

True would have blended well doing it that way, I had already cleared the fenders or would have done that.

People hate on patina but it's crazy how patina can make a $10,000 paint job look like trash.

Well with a 10k paint job your afraid to leave it in the parking lot but with patina any extra dent gives it character
