A good video going over the basics. I wish more UA-camrs understood how important the basics are especially for those starting out in the hobby. Also Wido, never apologize for your English. I can only speak English. You can speak two languages. That's impressive.

@@AstroForumSpaceThanks! It worked very well. I've just wondered how do you level your tripod when your head is not installed - the eyepiece holder dangles down even if I tighten the screw up as far as possible, hence the legs are not really in a defined position.

Very helpful! Thank you for sharing. Maybe someone has already commented, but using the "level" to make sure the mount is horizontal left-to-right and front-to-back is "leveling." The video was very clear and understandable. A screw has a conical taper with a sharp point to penetrate a surface, whereas a bolt has a cylindrical shape. All in all, I learned a lot from your video about the Celestron AVX mount. I hope the night went well. Thank you!

Bolt is normally larger than a screw. Screw driver for screws. Wrenches for bolts. For Dutch you are doing well! Been there and enjoyed the work visit maybe 20 years ago. On the scope they are called INPUTS - they take something. The power plug gives. The hand control gives. The inputs are called sockets (like an open hand or baseball mitt. The plug is the fist of your other hand - place in hand and close hand and rotate fist inside hand. open hand is socket and the fist is a 'ball'. Hip is ball and socket. ]

Can I offer a tip? Where the power cable goes in has a nut that holds it tight to the mount. It was loose in the video. You should tighten it or risk having the plug spin when you attach your power cord. If it spins it can damage the wires in the back of the plug..

Right at the outset "point your tripod north" - but which part of the tripod should be north? (a tripod has 3 legs). Possibly he means that the knob at the top of the tripod should be oriented north, but he doesn't actually say that. Also, how accurately must the knob be oriented to the north?

  • @PaulHummerman

It's unfortunate that the tip of the latitude scale pointer protrudes beyond the scale itself so one cannot really see what exact latitude it is set to, one has to eyeball it.
