Most underrated and over looked detector. Ive found merc dimes at 9 inches with this machine and stock coil. Only draw backs is no back light and no volume control. It shrieks if you're not using headphones lol, especially on brass.

    Hi...new sub from Australia...near Beechworth.
Ive an AT GOLD and found this video 'to the point' and informative...
Im basically new to things but I kind of see it like my guitar....
to be good at it you've got to know your instrument & develop your skills.
Id love if the AT GOLD screen was backlit....and if there were other headphone options - (maybe bluetooth...)
The headphones that come stock with the AT GOLD are bulky, and kind of uncomfortable after long periods..
I might make a modification on this with a soldering iron and a different connector input plug so that I can use
'in-ear' buds....would be lighter, more comfortable and could use any standard one-pin ear-buds - would also make wearing a wide-brimmed hat with the AT GOLD soooo much easier.
    good video thx :D

This guy knows his stuff. I've had mine for about 6 months now and love it, but I live in Canada and find when using this detector for finding can. coins they often sound like and are bottle caps. I have dug hundreds of targets sometimes being very selective and most times just trying to guess before digging. Does anyone have a suggestion on what settings for Can. clad the content is different than US most Can. I dig sounds more like bottle caps bouncing from 2 to mid 80's are the any good vids on using the AT Gold for Can.coins?

I think I´ve found my next metal detector ;)
at the moment I use my old Garrett ACE 250. But I´m searching for a better detector now. I had the Fisher F75 or Minelab CTX 3030 in mind as my next detector. But the Minelab CTX is very complicated in handling and the Fisher F75 has that awful sound. So why not the Garrett AT Gold. It´s similar to my ACE 250 but has more and better features, more search depth and that useful Taget ID feature that my next detector definitely should have.
    Thanx ;)

this is a year ago i see but to help others.deenie it would have to be a small nail/iron representing 10 or under,if they were small iron tacks that did have a value of 10 or under from the info ive seen yes it will be a grumpy/farty sound for 10 and under.if they were bigger nails around 25. that would be above 10 and any thing above 10 normal tone would sound.i would check the area and set the number for the size of nails thats there.ive ordered one so lets hope it is true all metal setting

I wonder how this detector compares to White's GMT? I know this detector (in the vid) is water proof, which is great, but how will it do for finding gold nuggets compared to the White (which I heard is very good)?
Also, of the two machines, which might be better for a beginner?
    Thanks!!

In all metal mode and iron audio on, would you still get the low grumpy sound if the iron desc was set lower, say at 10, and you're swinging the coil over that nail?

surface rust complicates iron discrimination as does sharp points (think nails and screws)

ganimed1976Did you make the mistake of Minelab. I had a Eureka gold and apart from it being pretty useless, it never really performed properly with bad contact on the cheap 4 wire plug from cable to box not just at the plug, which is a real pain in the ass to solder, but also inside the machine the wires were all either adrift or close to it.
I lost the thing to the factory after I first got it, pulling hair out time, for 6 weeks. Not only did they not fix it , they didnt even locate the fault. I studied it myself when it arrived home and emitted that same continuous screech of shorted or unconnected wiring.
I am confident the AT gold will do better. This was a good simple clean demo. I could easily hear what each noise was before it was revealed, with my eyes not looking at the video.

If you have the same model detector in this video then there's no use for a new video.
