@@Frenki94 After living your entire life in a dome, the open skies of earth a perfect recipe for agoraphobia
And wound up working with a group of Earthers, Belters and another Martian who treated her better than her own military.
The atmosphere is heavy af. They mentioned that all Martians seem to walk with the weight of the world on them, and that’s literally what’s happening for them. The atmosphere is pressing down on them
"I swore to take a bullet for Mars. I didn't swear to take a bullet FROM Mars!"
One major change from the book. The protomolecule monster didn't just take out some UN marines and martian marines in power armor, the Martians had time to set up an entire firing line with dozens of soldiers, including a 5 ton mech. The UN marines were fleeing after their entire similar sized detachment was destroyed. Every single soldier, including the mech which was ripped in half, was killed and Bobbie only survived because the monster was detonated by a bomb inserted into it's abdomen. The bomb which catapulted her hundreds of meters.
This scene in particular is entirely different then the books. She just leaves her Martian responsibilities behind and Avaserala gives her a job on Earth. Her defection is more of a transition. I think the show did it much better here.
Bobbie was also free to roam the earth. She was not a prisoner of her own govt.
I did not know that.
@@zeffmalchazeen3429 feels a bit silly on the part of the authors, why would earth let any martian roam free on the planet at a time of such an unprecedented crisis? Why would either side want to allow such a thing? For Earth it would be a security risk and Mars would risk defection which is exactly what happened
@@MatttCZvLP You can let them wander off and do their thing, and still keep pretty tight observations up.
And if the other side grew up thinking you all were mindless idiots, letting them interact with your regular citizens might not be the worst idea.
@@MatttCZvLPmars held it's population in check through propaganda for the most part, their military would be entirely unjustified if the population knew that earthers don't really give a damn about taking back mars, letting martians meet earthers is a political victory for earth 9/10 times
This is one of my favorite scenes in The Expanse. And for those of you who wonder why it was so easy for Bobbi to kick Capt Martens ass - If you went back to episode 7 of the season you will recall that Bobbi notices Capt Martens is a chaplain. Chaplains are not required to go through basic training like regular soldiers. Some people miss that. I did at first. 😉
And even though this cannot really be portrayed in a TV show, according to the books she's also an eight feet tall walkimg mountain.
Hell even basic is not going to help a lot of the support crew if got in a fight with someone who is trained for the front way above the level of basic, and normal duties keeps them in much above average physical condition and fighting skills fresh. In the TV series Martens is not exactly in prime age of his life either.
@@olivergraf1360 Naomi is supposed to be taller as well, all Belters and Martians are: Book Naomi is 'just under 2 meters tall' which puts her at somewhere near 6 foot 6 inches in imperial

Then breaks in literally 10 seconds and spills the beans hahaha
I never in a million years thought she'd flat out attack him to get answers. This show always keeps you on your toes. Awesome.
In a show about intrigue and mind games, it's almost refreshingly funny just see someone punch their way through a conspiracy. Channeling that Amos energy.
The thing is, this doesn't happen in the books. The cold war between Earth and Mars doesn't exist, they have a Coalitional Navy together, and the entire Caliban's War needed to be manufactured. Nobody on Mars has a problem when Bobbie just goes to work for Avasarala. She literally just gets a new job because Earth is not the enemy, and Ganymede was a tragic misunderstanding that they all blamed each other for and it ended the Coalitional Navy because it broke a trust, but didn't yet lead to a war.
The show did this far better.
@@pax6833amos and bobbie are my favorites exactly because of this, they don't fall for bullshit mind games
"Whole generation has forgotten what it means to sacrifice for the dream of mars"
Turns out Bobbie was willing to sacrifice for a dream a lot bigger than just Mars. Such a shame we'll probably never get to see and honor that.
She is committed to Martain Goal but she is also a Human with Humanity inside.
Martian goal is a very human dream. Her commitment to it makes more authentically human than most Earthers. She threw away everything she knew to fight what she believes in.
Bobbie is basically my favorite character. And this is one of the reasons why.
Ditto. I found her character and story arc special from the get go. These Season 2 clips remind me just how young she was when she started on this show. And she has developed Bobbie's character amazingly.
I used to hate Bobbie because she was a stone-faced grunt and I thought she couldn't act. Hated Holden too, for being a knock-off Jon Snow. Not anymore.
@@olegkosygin2993 Yeah I can't disagree more on Bobbi... her performance on this show is brilliant.

At first I was like "oh, if that's our Captain, I'm not watching this", but after cringing so many times I kinda accepted that.
Miller and Amos (and space battles) definitely carried the show hard first season.
Still one of my favourite scenes from the expanse, or my favourite of Bobbie at least. Thanks again for the upload.
My pleasure Stephen. And yes it's definitely one of those scenes which really established Bobbie as a fan favourite. I still think season 2 is Bobbie's best season.
Notice at 3:09 how she shakes her right hand, the effects of punching and hitting. It’s little details like this which make The Expanse stand out as an outstanding show.
The actress, Frankie Adams, got her start in boxing so I imagine that helped her choreography a lot
Except they forgot to show her with the pad, even though she has it later.
@@Rnankn2:37 you see her stow the pad behind her back. Then as she is walking through the building it starts beeping and she looks down and right meaning she probably moved it to another pocket after leaving the room.
One detail they missed is that, in reality, her punch would have no effect. Because she's a girl. With girl hands.
Ahh sexism how wonderful, i'm guessing you would be willing to put your beilef to the test by getting into the ring with a female boxer? If not then shut the fuck, touch grass and don't be a fucking misogynist.@@LawDawg717
One of the most satisfying scenes in the show
Yep
That roaring sound the guards are hearing is the sound of the situation rocketing past their pay grade.
Good line.
Thats when you maintain the situation as is, and call for a higher rank to come down and take charge.
I love how she walks so calmly and only breaks into a run when the guards spot her.
This was filmed at the University of Toronto, Scarborough, just incase anyone was wondering.
I was wondering about that Brutalist architecture. It looked too elaborate/real for just a set, but was curious where they found an existing building of raw concrete interiors.
@@thoriated Yeah, it's pretty minimalist inside. It's a very bland school
dam thank you so much.. sweet work
when I tell you I was screaming like hell for her to get on Earth's side as quickly as possible
I just love how its the people that aren't doing the sacrificing that complain that others don't understand sacrifice.
I love the books but the TV version of Caliban's War will always be superior. Bobbie's defection is just such an iconic moment
In the Book it’s entirely different. She never defects and I’m pretty sure from memory the hybrid is just loose / let loose and not released by mars? Not sure. Been a while.
But I prefer the book, this is too dramatic and doesn’t do the political game justice.
@@dennis141288 I'm almost done reading Caliban's War (after finishing S06). The hybrid was being "field-tested" by Earth (Mao never switched sides), and it also was not kept a secret. In the peace summit Bobbie said "what about the fucking monster?" - she was brought there by MCR instead of her presence being requested by the UN. Avasarala later "employed" her as a liaison to the Martian military.
The show is more dramatic and some situations end up being higher stakes, but I think that goes hand in hand with the medium. I don't think it's that contrived. The reason we can better appreciate the politics in the books is _because_ we are in Avasarala's head, again because of the medium.
@@LooselyRigorous yea, exactly. She ends up working as a liaison, but doesn’t defect in this sense. I’m onto abaddons gate now. The books are great, so is the show, just prefer the politics in the books so far. Happy reading!
I think for the show's limited runtime/space the defection makes a lot more sense, compared to her very arrogant/jignostic start it's a very easy way to show her growth as a character with defection rather than just becoming a liason
I like how she punctuates her questions...
And thus was born a free Bobbie Draper, who was no longer bound by false oaths. She is now able to fight for the right side of her choosing.
i like how in the books avasalara just makes a phone call and bobbie gets instantly reassigned to her staff, but i think the show made this scene much more interesting and realistic maybe
Thank you Frankie for giving us new Zealanders a dream
New Zeland is the best place in the world, don't complain :P
She's Samoan
This was such a 'holy SHIT' moment. I miss this show to death.
It feels really powerful to hear "... I'm requesting political asylum on Earth". Especially "on Earth" part as this is something that could be heard in the future if we don't first destroy ourselves.
She found out SHIELD is secretly full of HYDRA and could no longer stomach her role as Captain Mars
LOL nice!
Finally a good clip without 800 adds

Bobby is so badass👍
She sure is :)
Bobbi should have recorded every bit of those debriefs and "evaluations"
Reminds me of Juliana Crane requesting asylum in the American Reich in Man in the High Castle.
By sheer coincidence, I saw both episodes on the same day. Was like Deja Vu (in fact literally it was today I’m only on this video cuz I wanted to see if anyone else made the comparison)
one of the most hilarious scenes of bobbi I love this actress she's both serious and funny at the same time
This. This is how you do great story telling. You don't need to know anything about what happened before or after this to understand what is going on, or how big of a decision this is to her.
"You'll get a firing squad for this!"
LOL, few things are better than a stuffed shirt realizing too late that their threats of someone else doing something isn't going to help their sorry ass right now.
I love Bobbie's arch in the story. By far one of the best characters of the show.
I don't think you can actually mix "by far" and "one of" in a single sentence ;)
@@herrsan I'm spanish. Why not? (Serious question)
@@PR-qp8iz if you are saying, that she is one of the best, it means that there are several characters that you consider to be the best*. However, when you say "by far", you are implying that there is only one "best" character while there is a huge gap to the next best character. Sure, you can say that there is a cluster of characters that you consider to be best and the rest are far away but at this point, it all becomes rather redundant.
So, you either say "by far the best character" or "one of the best characters".
*even though this, too, would be contradictory; per definition, there is only one "best" character and not several "bests" characters. But by this point, "one of the best" has become a figure of speech so you can still say that, I suppose
@@herrsan I'd say "one of the best". It would be hard for me to choose just one, as there are several if not many that I consider awesome. What's your favourite character in the show?
@@PR-qp8iz Bobbie is definitely one of the best. However, Chrisjen is also a tough character that has got a great character arc: from the hardcore earther to someone that more and more has an understanding about the greater scheme of things whereby she loses her disdain for Belters
Love the little details. Like someone already said, Bobby shaking her hand after hitting someone. Also, look at the UN rifle starting at 4:14. There is wear on that weapon. Either to show the lack of care of the UN military vs. the MCR forces we've seen or that they can't afford to take care of little things like that.
Chances are the worn gun was for budgetary reasons (props from another shooting) but either way, it looks cool af.
@@petrowegynyolc7108 Nah sprayed tan, sanded black decals applied, takes about 20 mins with speed painting techniques. What bugs me about that gun is its an unloaded G36C.
The APS UARs the martians use are cool, wish more airsoft companies made one off in house designs like that as its one of the more ergonomic bullpups on the market.
Not sure what they're doing with what looks to be a mag put into the empty plastic area towards the barrel. If it's a mag holder that's a horrible place for it; you have to flag yourself to get the mag out to load it into the gun. If that's where the mag is supposed to be loaded into, then I'm not sure how that makes sense from a functional standpoint. How do you get the bullets from the mag into the chamber of the gun all the way back towards the shoulder of the guard?
or its just a tool, and tools will get worn down with use. If its just cosmetic its irresponsible to spend time and money replacing parts to cover cosmetic damage.
All it means to me is that they've trained with it. All weapons will have wear. Especially visible if they're not painted in all black.
This is how you quit your job.
This is the best sci-fi show ever made. There I said it.
Can't say I blame her for her, "Methods".😁
Bobbie defects is such an understated title 😂 She is awesome.
One of my favorite TV scenes of all time. The action is credible, and Bobby is the best female protagonist since Ellen Ripley. Frankie Adams was an incredible find, and I hope to see more of her as an actress. 🤩

Bobbie is bad ass! Great character - great actor!!!
You know, early on I found Bobbie really annoying. But the show forced me to love her by handling her so goddamn well.
I just am not a fan of the gung-ho soldier type, but we all know they exist. The show took such a person and made her go through realistic paces, grow and learn as a person, and along the way made you see that she was a well-trained, effective badass who even had a personality underneath.
That's what the Expanse does with almost all its main characters: introduces them with all the aspects of a two-dimensional trope, then subverts those expectations as characters grow and experience challenges to their worldview.
@@CaffeinePanda_The Expanse Effect._
Bobbie, no hesitation once she commits .
I like to imagine what it's like being a UN guard here. Months and months of boring token diplomatic guard duty, and oh yeah that one day that Martian Marine sprinted across the border, with a pack of armed MCRN guards tearing after her right up to the line, and requested asylum.
This scene still gives me the chills

Bobbie Draper is the single coolest person in the entire Expanse series. And that’s saying quite something.
And she gets even better after book 6, but that would be spoilers.
i would so marry her.
I mean, the head slam for the guard outside the chaplain's room was a little cheezy, but I can forgive it because I do still get chills when she runs across the divide to request asylum.
