To be fair, it also depends on the equipment and the exact situation. If you have enough officers, of course they shouldn't be hiding. But if you only have one who has no equipment and is in a situation where he almost certainly is going to be shot in 5 seconds, that officer also probably shouldn't run in like this. It would be much better if he instead does something like help the people get away or anything he can do from a safer distance until more officers with better equipment arrive. Like it happened with the school shooting in Erfurt. Police didn't have training or equipment because something like that never happened before, and when they sent someone to get closer he was shot and died immediately. It's also a bit of a problem with training. They also have to know what they're doing when they go in.
Having lost both my parents i can tell you taht no amount of money would ever make it better. The best thing you can have is two good parents alive and well. I feel so damn sorry for that kid and i really hope he gets the best life he can after this.
He's out of breath not only from running, but the stress/fear/anxiety of this incident- his body is telling him to run the other way, but his conscious mind pushed him forward. Man's a hero.
That officer is an absolute unit. Running straight towards the gunfire alone, across an entire parking lot in the Texas heat with all his gear, what a hero. It’s crazy to see how he went from “always wear your seat belt respect your mom” to putting down evil in a matter of minutes. That man deserves a pay raise and a medal for his bravery. I hope the families and officers involved get the help they need after this horrible tragedy.
Well, it’s what he signed up to do as a willing volunteer. When that happens, it’s time to nut up and make good on your oath. The time to pussy out was back before you put your name down on the line.
My family was at the mall when the shooting started. I had decided to stay home that day, but hearing how things happened from their pov is absolutely horrifying. I cannot express how thankful I am for this officer for saving my family and everyone else that day!

This dude is a great man. Shouting for people to get out of there. Running with all that gear, still shouting, and then still able to get off good shots. The guy needs a medal and a paid vacation.
Thankfully after a situation like that officers are given a pretty lengthy paid vacation + free therapy for life (or as long as they desire after several mandatory sessions)
@@superpl55no we need all police like this in the field. This man is a legend and hero. President trump would of made a big deal of the man who shot the shooter. He would of publicly told the story and gave him recognition. This story needs to be pushed for recruitment, public piece of mind, and commend the man who will likely have nightmares for life from this.
Ridiculously out of breath, shaking, voice trembling, still forced his legs to keep moving and got the job done. Shows you that you don’t have to be fearless to be brave. Props to the officer
@@dukesilver702 You wanna run 4 football fields in 95+ degree heat in 40 lbs of gear and somewhat restricting clothing and land shots from at around 40 yards? I don't see you out here stopping mass shootings
Can we appreciate that the mom he was talking to in the beginning stayed calm and cool. A lot of people in these videos just start screaming, she was able to stay calm and get her kids to safety. Big props to her
So I 100% understand why her (and her kids) faces are blurred out. And obviously due to the nature of body cam you can't see his face. I really wish I could have seen both their expressions when she looks at him, and even blurred you can tell that she's just finished processing what they was hearing.
She's from latam, sadly we are used to hearing gunshots and since being kids we are taught to stay calm and look for cover when we hear them... I mean it depends on the country but she sounds Venezuelan and that's something common there
She knew it before the officer. If she had a gun it would have been over a bit quicker lol. She is from Venezuela, very strong you can hear it in her voice
I gotta say with the way media portrays everything these days you really open my eyes to how thankless being a cop can be and despite that most are ready to give their lives any and every day. You’re a saint for making them out as the heroes they are, ik they don’t hear it enough or even get noticed for it. Keep doing you man you even know the difference you’re making for real✊🏽
100% agree. new to this channel, and it has made me realise that even in Australia, the media are so quck to highlight the crappy things American cops do ( as they should) , but they never show stuff like this. The bias is disgraceful
Ik? Why did you abbreviate only that? Why abbreviate at all, or why not abbreviate more? "I know" is only five letters and a space yet you fully spelled out far bigger words. Did those bigger words tucker you out?
Most cops aren't heroes. They're mostly people who like power and throwing their weight around on pesky citizens and work money out of our pockets. Every now and then they're put in a position where they have to do what the public expects them to do, what we think their purpose really is which isn't revenue collection for the local or state government. Some cops are good but most suck. Don't be disillusioned.

Regardless if you argue his cardio isn’t good enough… dude never stopped pushing forward and reporting what he saw. He took his duty seriously while passing a traumatic scene going towards gunshots. Hero.
Texas heat. Combined with heavy gear. I think the gear weighs around a good 30 plus pounds right? Doesnt sound like much until you start going all out.
Let me tell you being in the army running with similar gear he was no doubt seeing stars by the time he made it to the shooter. The fact he was still able to accurately put rounds down range is big props.
Side note but can we appreciate the mom at the beginning not causing panic for her children and just calmly ushering them to their car. Brave mama there!
@@Snake-pz6qj I think he's trying to say why are we praising a mum who sure did the right thing but its the most obvious thing, we shouldn't have to praise mums for doing things that are common sense like keeping your children away from an active shooter, sure the mum is still a brave woman especially since from the looks of it she tried to also keep the kids calm but this stuff should be done without a second thought.
@@Nutsack4202 This is exactly why we should be appreciating and acknowledging these things, because although it is the obvious and common sense thing to do, a lot of people and mothers couldn’t even do what this mother did.
My brother went to war in Afghanistan and he told me the hardest part for most people is if they saw their brother shot, screaming in agony, they’ll focus on that more than eliminating the threat. He’s had to witness his team in horrendous situations and said you ignore it until the threat is eliminated. Unless you’re the medic, you don’t stop.
and as always, my respect for the medics/corpsmen as well, who rush through live fire to help the wounded. Most notably in WW2, they would rush into scenarios that guaranteed death. They'd comfort the injured/dying & continued to live on with the most haunting effing memories you can imagine.
All that for 70k a year and diminishing benefits and retirement, if you take down one of these over medicated lunatics, your pension should be doubled ever pay year, I also want to send this man a portion of my paycheck, I get why he doesn’t want to be identified, but fuck man, I’ve seen war footage of men less engaged, I really hope there’s a way I can thank this hero for what he did financially, even though I live thousands of miles away. The dedication to his fellow man, whom he knows none of, I’m just at a loss for words.
And yet, 8 people killed. This is why in a firefight, you are your own first responder. Even when an officer as heroic and selfless as this absolute unit, you cant always rely on the police.
@rushxoxNot an assault rifle. And 2 pistols often would beat 1 AR-15. Hell. In most cases 1 pistol Beats 1 AR-15 as most AR-15s are 22s and most pistols are of a much higher caliber.
@rushxox A gun is a gun in a fight or flight situation. Rifle or pistol changes nothing besides how easy it is to be accurate, but that stops mattering as much when you are well-trained and accurate with your sidearm
@rushxox any gun is better than nothing. If you had a choice between pulling out a handgun to handle it yourself or waiting for the police when it could take quite a while, which would you choose?
This is the first time one of your videos ever EVER made me cry. That poor 6 year old. I can't even imagine the pain he will suffer for the rest of his life.
I live in the area. What happened was so horrific that the people working in the medical examiners office (I know one) were completely traumatized. It was horrific. It was a miracle more people weren’t killed. 😢😢😢 I saw things on Twitter I can never unsee.
millatary and police have extremely higher rates of divorce and substance abuse problems due to what they go threw. and its sadly not talked about. tho it really needs tp be!!!
You gotta work through the trauma like with most cases like this, war vets and all, you don’t simply go in living a happy go lucky life when experiencing this stuff like nothing happened, it does effect them and they need to heal.
The cop's communication with everybody was really on point. He was paying attention to a lot of different things all at the same time and I'm really impressed. He was really well trained and he put that training to work. He kept thinking his way through the entire engagement, which is crazy difficult in those types of situations. I can't express how impressed I am at how well he handled every part of this engagement.
He can "thank" the WAAAY too liberal American gun laws for that 🤷🏼♂️ FYI, for you Americans: you can still be free and safe (more safe) without owning guns.
I am in EMS, and I was at a hospital nearby that was taking care of injured. I was unable to go and help the injured-on scene. But was able to stay and help in the ER. Prayers to the police and the victims of that sad day.

@@tedunguent156 Maybe the standards are different in America but this wasn't a run or a brisk walk. Honestly, that is the model officer, helping children and building a community one moment, and willing to throw down his life to defend that community in next. That officer is the real example of what someone means when they say the word: Hero.
True hero stuff but I can only imagine in retrospective his feeling "what I could do better or quicker". Can be frustrating coming back to this with this thought of possibly saving more lives... I know we are only limited humans and evil is sometimes too far ahead. Such a tragedy but this was spark of hope.
@gacekbd yep. Bet his biggest 1 is why didnt i just get in my squad and drive up on him in 30 seconds instead of 4 min. How many could have been saved. But that POS killer moved pretty quick which delayed the officer to rectifying the situation later.

Even from the video and in the safety of my home, those shots getting progressively louder were making me get seriously on edge. The way that they all paused and the mom took cover with their children and the officer got serious and got to work is just…😊😊 it looked like a movie scene

Being at the right place at the right time saved so many lives there. That release of tension from the officer when he realized the threat was neutralized was satisfying - I hope he remembers that feeling if he ever finds himself in doubt over his actions that day.
This guy is amazing. Literally the perfect officer; having a friendly interaction with the community and transitions to action mode in the blink of an eye; Lord only knows how many more people he saved. This officer is to be lauded for his outstanding compassion and courage on full display here.
Badass cop, great shots, can we take a second to appreciate the mom of the family he was interacting with? Heard the shots, didn't panic and immediately took her kids away from the danger calmly, great parenting.
Man that's heartbreaking. He's out of breath, is tired, and the guy keep shooting and killing people. Imagine the thought and maybe the guilt of "if i get that earlier..." Hope he's mentally ok. RIP all victims.
My exact thoughts. I have to believe there was some sort of fear attributing to that. Even a slight delay may allow officers and backup to arrive. I don’t mean he did it consciously, but just my thoughts. Otherwise, how else would someone be able to walk like that while knowing people are being blasted to death?
@@michaelscott33the human body has limitations. You can’t just expect an officer to dead ass sprint for 100s of yards towards gun fire while not knowing the location of the gun man and wearing 40 plus pounds of gear. Givin the distance he ran while shouting at bystanders and giving call outs on the radio he did pretty damn good cardio wise.
I bet it is. Pretty sure the first instinct for anyone is to render aid and try to safe someone's life. Unfortunately that has to wait while a shooter is still active. Stopping to help leads to more casualties that the shooter can inflict and potentially killing you as well if the shooter happens upon you rendering aid. Tough decision to make, but ultimately it is always the right one.
It sounds terrible, but this officer had the exact right mindset. Trying to save any one individual that is already down just leaves the shooter open to hurt more people. By only focusing on finding the threat, you stop more people from being hurt. Then try to save the injured. For example EMS would have rushed to the area but not pull up on the scene until someone radios an all clear in case they themselves become another target.
I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
My father was a police officer in Chesapeake VA for about 12 years, and he explained to me how this works. Allow me to break down what the active shooter protocol is there (and almost every other city and county in the US).The first cop to arrive at the scene immediately enters, with or without backup, does not stop to help anyone, and instantly, and without hesitation, engages the shooter (assuming he knows where the shooter is). The point of doing so is to gain the shooters attention, and to focus the shooters attention on the officer, instead of more innocent people. The next officer to arrive is to wait by an entrance, and wait for 3 more officers to arrive, and then all four at once make entry. Again, they do not help any down bystanders, and they too engage the shooter. At that point in time the five (probably more at this point in time) devise a strategy and take the suspect down (in a lot of situations, when the other four arrive, they generally devise a plan that involves flanking, trapping, or simply any strategy in general that involves using the numbers to their advantage, and the suspect is swiftly taken down afterwards. It generally doesn't last very long unless it turns into a standoff and hostages and the whole nine yards, but I'm barring that in this situation. Be aware, these cops are TRAINED for situations exactly like this, and know how to handle a weapon. Further more they understand that innocent peoples lives are on the line, and that they signed up to protect those lives, so hesitation is sort of out of the question, especially considering the adrenaline that's probably pumping through their bodies. Furthermore, a lot of cops are former military). So that is the BASICS of how active shooter protocol works for the majority of law enforcements agencies around the US! I hoped I shed some light for those who were interested.

Honestly, that is the model officer, helping children and building a community one moment, and willing to throw down his life to defend that community in next. That officer is the real example of what someone means when they say the word: Hero.
What an absolute unit. Guy goes from “Hey Kids, stay in school and eat your veggies” to “Let’s stop a mass shooter” in an instant.

True hero stuff but I can only imagine in retrospective his feeling "what I could do better or quicker". Can be frustrating coming back to this with this thought of possibly saving more lives...
That's going to take a toll on a person's mind.
Thank you for telling us.
