Dave Weckl Demos The Sabian HHX Evolution Performance Cymbal Pack

- Dave Weckl stops by Guitar Center to show us the new Sabian HHX Evolution Performance Cymbal Pack.
The dark, simmering sound, agitated bite and "Tone Projection" design of the HHX Series makes this series more effective than others. Other cymbals may generate darkness, but HHX stirs up more simmering heat, more musical dirt, more of what drummers want to hear and projects it. It gets you heard.

Close your eyes and Obama describes the Sabian HHX Evos lol.
Hahaha!
Bernie Leiva wasn't he playing zildjians? when did he switch? why is everyone switching from one to another?
pnsmexico dude he switched like 15 years ago
paulo101 really? then when the hell did Neil Peart stop playing Ludwigs and now support DW like they really need it? when the heck did that happen? and does Mike Portnoy still play Mapex? what the heck---why are all these artists switching endorsements? [:-P (I know...) by the way, didn't Neil Peart also play Zildjians too? when did he switch to Sabian? or he didn't? Is Terry bozzio still with Paiste? wow, time has changed...
Bernie Leiva He sounds like Obama, with a hint of Nicholas cage lmao
LOVE seeing him on the SCBs. Those are some seriously great drums. Inexpensive don't mean 'cheap'.
Rob Brown I love seeing Dave Weckl play the Stage Custom Birch drums as well In fact I would love to see Dave play these drums with Mike Stern Oz Noy Chick Corea Drum Fantasy Camp & Drum Clinics
In the category of 'bang for your buck' I have yet to see anything out there that beats Yamaha Stage Custom! I'm saying this as a non-endorser, working drummer who owns a slew of modern professional grade, and vintage gear.
@@deaterk Yeah they're a great deal. If you prefer maple, Gretsch Catalina Maple and Tama Superstar are also a great value. For both, you can get a 7-piece shell pack with 5 toms, a kick and a snare for $900. Pearl Decade and DW Design are also good value low/mid-range maple kits. For affordable higher end kits, my favorite is the Tama Starclassic B/B Performer. The combination of birch and bubinga maintains all the benefits of birch while also gaining most of the sound properties of maple shells.
They are great drums. I play Mapex Saturn's, and my band at the time played a club in Macon,Ga that had a red set of those drums as the house kit. So I just played them. They sounded amazing.
Rob I just bought the be bop stage custom got evans heads followed your tuning tips it sounds great... Stage custom is a great kit to have at home and even gig in
Those drums sound absolutely fantastic!
Notice the Yamaha Stage Customs? By far, the best drum value out there. Sounds every bit as good and usually better than most high-end kits. I play an 8-piece Stage Custom set bought last year and can't fathom purchasing something else. I've owned many kits, some very expensive and the Stage Customs are fabulous. Even with the stock Remo UT heads they sound incredible. Replace the heads and you've got all that's needed.
Dave Weckl can make a five ply cardboard kit sound good!
superbikesndrums Pretty much :)
Which is an apt description of how his drums sounded in the 80s. Lol. Dave still killed it.
Best comment so far. I agree. Lol
I have used HHX EVO for 8yrs. and I am still pleased with them. Also 14 yrs of learning from Dave, and I am still amazed at Mr Weckl.
Nice to hear drums sound so nice without tape and moon gels all over them. Great sounding kit and cymbals. My next purchase maybe.
Birch. No need for damping. Those babies are great just as they are. Can't believe a "beginner" kit sounds that good.
Dan Hill
The Stage Customs are probably the best sounding beginner drums out there. Big sound although the one i played only was a studio kit with a 20 bass drum
Michael Collins
I cannot help you with that because i am not very familiar with Yamaha drums.
Only beginner in price, 20 yrs ago this kit would of been 1700 bucks. This is pro level at a beginner price. Even the poplar kits from Tama don't sound entry level. The quality you get with drums now days is amazing and the prices are amazingly low compared to drums in years past. Drums from the late 70s early 80s were heavier , but lacked the openness of today's drums. Companys went back to thinner shells , re enforcement rings. Mahogany made a come back, and the cheaper line poplar kits rival any pro kit in sound, if tuned right, and dialed in.
I agree. I hate when people over muffle thier drums
I have the HHX Evolution 18" crash and the 21" ride. They are insanely good. Absolute perfection. Of course Dave is a one of a kind player on drums and easily in the top 5 greatest drummers of all time, but no matter who the drummer is, this line of cymbals sounds so good and is legit. I highly encourage if you can afford a few of these buy them, you will not be disappointed.
Just got my 21" Evolution ride delivered today. Bought it used, got a great deal on it. Haven't played it yet but can't wait.
Pretty sure Dave could make buckets sound like a pro kit.
His hands
My church just bought this cymbal pack today, and I'm going to pick them up Thursday, can't wait!
1:35 - 1:45
Dave... just... come one man.
Sigh...just pure perfection and greatness
+Frantz Louisme Yup. what more can you say.
It's easy actually. Just slow it down.
My drum teacher humiated him in a drum off
@@blindfish7812 oh awesome. I once beat up Bruce Lee, too. I was tired though cos I just scored the winning goal of the 1966 world cup and i'd been up all night partying with Frank Sinatra.
Love the HHX with Weckl. Bought them in 09'!
the 18" Ozone is the best part of this pack
Go Dave!!
I have Stage Customs. They are perfectly fine and look good. If you are a great or even good drummer you don't need a high-end kit. No one is going to know the difference especially if you play well. Now cymbals - THAT'S a different story. When you get more than one crash, make sure they compliment each other. Even 2 of the same size can work well. When shopping, take your existing crash with you to audition the others. And replace your batter heads regularly. Try out different ones. And ALWAYS use a drumstick on your steering wheel when driving for practice. You won't believe how better you will get while passing the time. My left hand is faster than my right!
I guess the best thing about these mini informercials is they inspire me to practice.
He makes it all look so effortless.
Fabulous Dave Weckl 👏👏👏👏
I was stuck between these and a pearl kit now granted I love pearl but recommendation from this gentleman swung me right towards Yamaha and I’m gonna buy that cymbal pack too
They sound even better when you're the one playing them Mr. Weckl.
I play the Sabian Dave Weckl Signature Series at my church.
Greatest all around drummer of all time
+Robin Ghosh For sure. Although Vinnie C. has played more styles I think.
I have the 16 Evolution crash...sounds incredible.
Stage Custom drums have come a long way.. Very nice. Although the last generation SC lug casing where the tension rods go through were a little, for lack of a better word, if-y, and were a little difficult to tune up properly. I hope that Yamaha have addressed that problem.. Other than that, the drums sounded great.. This new generation of SC sound killer though !
Couldn't believe stage custom sounds like a 3k USD kit.
Robert Huang that’s why I play one!
I had to watch it a few times, I was focusing on his playing xD
I think the HHX heavy 22" is the way to go.
"Hi guys, Tony Hawk here, when I don't skate I shred on drums and this is my cymbal choice."
"you're getting an 18 (Peter Brady) ozone crash"
I have this drum.. great sound and beautifull finish
+AEP Keydrummer Stage custom birch ???
+joaquin perez perez Yes is birch shell
Dave, The Great...!!
Rock and roll sessions? Hmmm..Dave's voice 2:41 funny
Yeah the quality of the Stage Custom kits has just gotten ridiculous in recent years. I'm always happy to have them as backline drums.
whats the difference in sound between stage custom and professional level. i try to find the difference
+German Coro La stage custom birch es una buena bateria.Estoy loco por tener una y precisamente la blanca como la del video.Jajaja
+German Coro
Weckl just gave away the little secret. Entry level drums tuned correctly with good heads sound perfectly fine.
Yamaha messed up and made the stage custom sound too good so now not as much as normal and other companies. If you want a great sounding kit cheap, this is it.
sounds great as aways Dave!!
Just bought the Dave beck 13" HHX evolution Hi Hat
He speaks the truth about these cymbals.
Impressive
No Dave, YOU sound great :)
His voice cracked so bad when he said 18 in. o-zone hahah
LOL but you know he’s an incredible drummer right
Wow
I'm wondering after Dave's being endorsed by Sabian, what did he do with his zildjian cymbals . . . ??? 🤔🤔🤔
Beatyfull cymbals, i really wish to buy this cymbals
I can see why Yamaha keeps Dave and Gadd... Damn!
Until he said he was playing the stage custom I had no idea, they make you wonder why you payed the big bucks for the high end kit?
Lovely cymbals! Those drums sound amazing too! Can't believe they're stage customs!! Great value . Yamaha gear is great though. Doesn't hurt that a legendary drum master is playing them though too of course!! :-)
This is great, but the recording is a bit muffled on the high end (at least it sounds that way played back via UA-cam through a decent Altec Lansing p.c. sound system). Since the sizzle of a cymbal is in the higher frequency range, this is muffling some of those cymbals' sounds just a bit.
Lol - you mean that had sticks for you to try cymbals??? They didn't ask you to stop playing so they can answer the phone, thus making you want to walk away from the snare drum and cymbal purchase you were there to check out???? Man, I wish I was Dave Weckl.
I'm thinking of buying the SCBs, but I'm not sure whether I'm going to buy the set with the 22" kick and 16" floor, or 20" kick and 14" floor.Any experiences? I mainly play blues/poprock/rock stuff.
Alain Mulder I just got a kit of with 22, 10, 12, 16 and also picked up the 14” floor Tom and the 20” kick. Now I have two kits in one to take out as the gig and/venue dictates.
"how great they sound" Peter Brady would be proud
hello there. any video with HHX Special Evolution Cym?
very good
1:25 XD
Wow please please tell me what snare that is
Andy M looks like a Yamaha Sensitive 14x6.5, can't tell you anymore than that tho.
Andy M yamaha dave weckl 14 x 5 1/2 brass 30 aniversry
2:41 lmao
Hahahaha I was just about to comment that
What are you laughing at the drums sound great the cymbals sound great and this man is an incredible drummer end of story
what heads is he using?
Best cymbals.
Did you guys hear his voice crack when he said "18" o zone?
I've met this dude and shook hands with him once! I know he has a daughter, Claire Elyse, but is he still married to his wife?

Yamaha Phx?
Daniel Choxom Stage Custom Birch (SCB)
Thomas David Young Maria Perez Helen
Dude never sounded the same after going to Sarah Brian & Anne
Weckl could make cardboard boxes sound like magic.
Sonor Sq1 or these?
SQ1 is mutch more expensive , they are professional drums .
@Faisal Lee LOL, too late, I already bought and got rid of the SQ1s and am now back to Ludwig Classic Maples....I always go back to Ludwig!
Allen Shirley Moore Jeffrey Hernandez Matthew
Can anyone (roughly) transcribe 1:35 - 1:45?
Mainly the fill at 1:40 - 1:45 area :D
should I buy the HHX evolution promotional pack, or the zildjian k dark pack
i just went for HHX
Matt Traverso Just depends. I personally think either would be great, although I went with the K Custom Dark. Both are great sets.
Sdvc49 are they good for rock/alt rock? because i've heard they're better for jazz
Matt Traverso It's all in your perspective. I personally think they sound very similar, although I prefer the K custom dark ride to the HXX one. For rock though, I would say that K custom fast crashes, along with the K custom dark ride, and standard K hats would work the best, but that's just me. HHX cymbals would also work well. I'd just say to go for the less expensive option.
Matt Traverso yes,you should
Garcia Margaret Lopez Helen Martinez Sandra
Is that guy still going through puberty?
HHX are way better than most but meinl makes all the big brands sound like toys.
Lewis Jeffrey Martin Daniel Jackson Amy
1:27
"Enry level" Kit?...I thouht the dummer makes the instrumet sound? Män, you are so wrong...that Yamaha kit is the same than "Entry level" compare to "Recod system"....???Like the level of silverplate makes you better play the flute?
Stage Customs are not entry level kit. Weckl should know that...
Rumpukoulu Tremolo i was assuming he was comparing them to his PHX Kit. 🤷🏽♂️
Harris Frank Jones Anna Johnson Sharon
@1:26 hahahahah

really?
He sounds like Obama XD Awesome drummer too!
Dave couldn't look more UN-enthused....
Me decepcionó HHX evolution, lo percibí muy delgado y brilllante, compre un splash 10" y suena como a lata, podría pasar por un china ñ ñ
Wow Obama can really play!
ReneVaeli
White obama?
@@brettsenzer5902 his voice 😂
I wouldn't trust GC to ship my Sabian cymbals after what happened to me, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/ccm7Xf2paGY/v-deo.html&t

Are you f*in kidding me at 2:26?? His double on the hihat/ride?? Man.
Just goes to show ya that you don’t need a 3000$ kit to sound good. Had you not seen the kit you’d never known
the best drummer ever...
