Here in Germany Id gone to the movies and sat in a completely empty movie house and someone come and sat in the seat in front of me. there must have been 300 other seats empty ., Nice that you reminded me of a part of my life.
Haha 😂 Same same but on land 😁
Oh my god! The same thing happened to my wife and I. We were in a 300 plus theater sat down two seats in in the middle and sure as hell a couple sit next to us. Than another couple sit behind us making all kinds of noise with candy wrappers. 294 plus seats still open. People???
🤔 that's like lRobot when robots group together ❤
I think a good rule of thumb for anchoring boats is what I call "urinal etiquette" which most men will understand. In the men's room when presented with a row of urinals it is courteous to at least allow for an empty urinal between you and your neighbor when possible. Boats should follow a similar protocol to be good neighbors.
I was about to make a similar comment! Totally agree!
Hehe 😀 good rule!
I thought you were going to suggest urinating off the side to force the other boat to give you more privacy!😂
@@paulwyand6204 I saw a German guy do that the other day - I didn't feel like anchoring closer so it worked ;)
I really thought we were going to be talking about marking our territory.
Been watching since the beginning and always enjoy the stories.
Thank you so much :)
Mas, Allow me to explain why you neighbors parked too close. They
assumed you knew it was a safe place to park.
Were newbies and scared
Felt there was safety in numbers
“ You think those two Geeks over there know this is a good place to anchor?” “If they don't who will?”
A fellow glasses-wearing developer.😊
Great vid, as always.
Yep, first thought. They are not rude, just a bit scared or unsure and your boat looks smart and safe. ✌🏻
Thank you for sharing Athena’s trip to Barbuda. The last time I visited Barbuda was around 2000 on an assignment to appraise a defunct beachfront lodge. I traveled there from the Barbuda capitol via a sand road in a van(taxi) from their airport. Antiqua at that time was very busy and blessed with lots of activity. The drive from the Barbuda airport to my project took about 15 minutes along a pathway that looked much the same as your photos. My appraisal was not met with delight from my hedge fund client due to their 9 million dollar investment that was a Condé Nast featured property for being a perfect beachfront reclusive suntanning get away. At that time, the resort was nothing more than an often flooded structural mess. I really enjoy your channel and as a Florida resident, I looking hopefully forward to seeing Athena’s arrival in Florida. Wishing you two the best with smooth waters and a following sea!
Mads I have to tell you that your sailing channel is the best, bar none. Good job, keep up the good work.
We watch your videos for a long time now, and still we think (next to Atticus), this is one of the most professional channels. Thank you very much!
Appart from the many hours of "DIY fun" I've watched and truly enjoyed on Sail Life, I more and more start to like (plain out love) your historic, geographic, biological and social documentation from around the world. Like the banana excursion and now the hurricane damaged Bermuda. It's what makes this channel so unique and a favorite to the many landlubbers of us. Pls, continue with your format Mads and Ava, but do include more interaction with the locals. And then back to DIY ...
I always like to see Ava's happy attitude in these videos. It sure is different from the old sanding days with no bubbly people around :) Of course Mads is great too lol
Most informative cruising channel on You tube.
great work.
Thank you so much for highlighting to plight of the people on this island. I hope they can retain their riguts.
lovely bird photos
great clip today
Really good job Ava explaining the events of that hurricane
I'm guessing your neighbor was unprepared or lazy and figured that since another boat was anchored, it was safe for them to anchor nearby. If they were 'a couple of boat lengths' away, I'd be concerned about either the length of their scope - or the lack of it - if the wind comes up.
Nice to see what it was left like after the storm , a shame corporate money may rebuild it . Thanks for your video .😉👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Mads, find some green slime tire repair. Strip your dinghy and put that green slime in it. Then blow it back up and roll it around a bit until it finds the hole. Should hold for a bit. Great video btw! Stay safe!
Huh… tire slime… for a temp dinghy fix… so I have some of that and just as it happens a slightly leaky Avon. I’m going to give it a try and let you how it goes in a couple days!
@@jaysonlima7196 See Sailing Jib Sea. They did a video on it. Just recently. (Video short?)
@jeremyduncan3654 some other channel just did that. Oh! Travis on Jibsea.
@@rickkwitkoski1976 I replied to the above comment but I guess I didn’t send it. I did mention Jibsea in my comment…. But….
That like parking your car way out in the parking lot by yourself . And some ass comes along and parks right next to you lol
If you check I’m sure that car has a French license plate 😉😉

Uuh someone sensitive
LOVE your videos. We’re really enjoying your adventures. 😎🥰😎🥰😎
I suspect maybe your close neighbor was thinking there's safety in numbers? There is less of a chance of someone trying to sneak on board if there are other boaters nearby.
Barbuda looks lovely, it's nice to get away from developments. Thanks for sharing and I'm with you on birds 😉
I crawled all over the islands after hurricanes Irma and Maria back then doing failure analysis of PV plants. We actually recorded wind speeds up to 250mph gusting on some of them. So much devastation.
Great video
I lol'ed when I saw where the other boat anchored, I don't get it, maybe they are lonely. It's the same in parking lots, you can park your car in an almost empty parking lot and you get back to your car and someone has parked next to you making it hard for you to open your door.
Haha 😂 that is 100% the land version! Funny! 😁
I think that they anchor close to be able to help if there is rough winds blow in by , or get help from you if they get in trouble. So I’d say it’s a safety thingy.
I hope you find carbon tender build plans that can also sail and row, and maybe even nest. The PT11 is nice, but it's inability to use a decent sized motor at 15 knots is a bummer. I'll be watching you carefully before I start my own build!
Another great episode I feel your pain Mads I'm an Ausie. and I like to go camping allot I've had instances where we have been the only 1s in a camp ground then some clown comes and sets there camp up right on top of where you are very annoying. love Ava's history skits keep it up great content Cheers
beautiful place
I think the new dingy build is gonna be very interesting.
OMG that boat is amazing. also you get to meet "Teal" from "OnBoard Lifestyle" , you guys are special :)
Nothing quite as satisfying as engine maintenance, really nice to watch. That compressor is gonna have a cushy life. Also, even though it consumes a lot of energy it makes sense to have it be electric I think. Of course it could be belt driven off the diesel engine, or be powered by its own little honda four stroke, but then it would be a single point of failure, and probably more expensive to run too.
I’m not a sailer but I think the issue is a lack of confidence on the part of other skippers in knowing where it’s safe plus the idea that a boat already in an anchorage must be in the official anchorage area, I mean can the whole area really be open to anchoring?
Love, love, love this channel, so informative and charming. Well done Mads and Ava!
Hey crew. Thanks for the good videos. Quick question to Mads: would it be possible for you to share your arch designs? We're thinking of getting a 37-foot Najad and this might be a good starting point for building something similar...
Drain any engine oil when its warm/hot ..... that way you get more of it out ....Keep up the great work
I mean it took Mads 7 years to refit a boat! How fast do you need the locals to rebuild a remote island? 🤣😂 Great looking locations 2x👍
You go to the mall, park in the back corner of the lot and when you get back, you find someone parked right next to you, with nothing else around...
See you👍🏼🥰
Seeeee you 😁
Unfortunately, in our experience when we are all alone in an nice anchorage someone will come and, in our opinion, anchor too close. I expect they feel it is a safety issue and also that there is good holding because we are there. Our previous boat only had 18" draft. It was great to see boats come to anchor close to us but they would run aground and have to go elsewhere.
Hoooorah . . . for "looking around"!
Great video! I always like the info presented. As per anchoring etiquette I think that subconsciously people will anchor close by for safety? Maybe? Kind of like surfing, when you have the beach to yourself it's usually to the case that someone new will end up surfing right near you. Still annoying though.
SEE YOUUUU!!! ❤
Oh…look, there’s a boat anchored there. It must be a good spot.
That 120 series looks sad 😢😢
Can give them a helping hand to them??
Bet he was having fun
Changing an air filter due to air temperature?
Interesting. I've not a diver, so that may be unique to just that compressor.
But how/why would air temperature affect an air filter?
Is Ava Armish. ?
No 🙂 Why?
What's happening with the Gen Setn Mes?
At anchorage the new guys come and sees your boat and figure it’s the best ( and only) place to anchor safely, also assuming you know something they don’t so they latch on, the next poor mindless soul falls into the same trap. Basically you are their Pied Piper….😂
You could almost put out fenders and ask the other boat to tie alongside
Hehe, maybe that’s what we should do the next time 😉
Pls tell us more about the camera on the mast-top. Specs pls!
AvE was here.
I think some folks just feel safer to anchor close to other boats ; giving them a sense of security. I personally think it’s annoying but I try to look at it from their point of view as well and if it really bothers me I just move a few hundred yards away.
So...sorry Mads...no naked sun bathing on Athena with those neighbors. Yea...with an empty anchorage like that, one would usually say to "stay a bit away". You didn't by chance have a pineapple flag out did you? LOL....
Hehe, how did you know that was what we were going for? 😂
Aren't you generating about 8 kwh per day?
What camera model is that you have on top of the mast?
Garmin GC200 but I’m sure there are many other good options 🙂
Mads, what is the camera that you have on top of your mast? I need to get one.
Ours is a Garmin GC200 but I’m sure there are other good ones if your boat is not Garmin branded 😉🙂
It's the same being on a campervan, if you turn up to a completly empty parkup, you'll find yourself surrounded by other vans in the next morning, must be a kind of herd instinct...
😉🙃😂
ain't that the truth.
is ok about travel guide commentary... having gone through a few i get the feeling theyre written by the, "drunk and naked or its not fun" crowd. yourselves - and me - are a very very different type of sailor.
I’ve had other boats anchor on top of my anchor which I then have to dive to retrieve! But I just move and hope that the offender learns better. In a way it makes it easy to see who you should stay away from.
Time to build a collapsible speaker box with large subwoofer to show potential neighbors how much you love gangster rap. Oh no, they're motoring away.
Liked.
I think that the proper protocol os to anchor (when possible) far enough away so as not to hear the other vessel, or far enough away to not really see directly onto another vessel if possible in this particular case. I see it all the time, and its almost always some guy who likes to run around in some European swim trunks listening to blaring music, who thinks everyone wants to party with them.
It's time to bust out the Borat mankini! 😂
An-tee-ga
Mads hope you will go forward with the dinghy fabrication!
Baby steps are being made 🙂 So far the limiting factor is my Fusion 360 skills 😂
I would also be bothered by someone parking their boat that close. My scandinavian sensibilities I suppose - google "waiting for the bus like a swede" if you're not familiar.
TBH - I'd move if there was that much room ...
“All problems caused by government” - is my favorite boat site now a MEGA site?
That’s a bit of a leap 🙂
Indeed it is, but still -
99% of the time, when someone anchors close-up, they are a certain European nationality south of the UK. To add to which they are 50% of the time naked!
Spiffy
Thank you 😀
Lonely sailors...or newbies not knowing where they should anchor.
I don't understand the wAnchors either...
⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
When pesky neighbors anchor next to you, I find it a great time to climb on my cabin top, completely naked, and bend over to trim my toe nails. They do get a bit gangly on occasion, and it’s good to treat yourself to a pedicure from time to time.
Is there enough difference between day and night temps to benefit from recharging your tanks at night when it's coolest? Assuming, then, that you can catch up on your sleep during the day!
It seems as though the majority of people don't know the meaning of etiquette, much less know how to apply it socially. I'm afraid when the older Baby Boomer generation is gone, you will be on your own in despair.
no edikit -- stupidity comes to mind when on the boat.--- shows peoples brain functions
Communal lands are a recipe for disaster, nobody takes responsibility, but everybody claims the rights (refer to what's know in economics as the Tragedy of the Commons).
Private property is only known civilized way to deal with scarcity.
Any change your neighbour is French?🫣
Only a 100% chance 😉😂

@@marcyvon8404 Based on our experience, some French boats are comfortable anchoring a lot closer to other boats than I am. In fact ever time a boat has ancored closer to me than I'm comfortable with it has been a French boat. I'm guessing it might be because they are used to ancoring in crowded places. It's a bit of a standing joke amongst many sailors we have met that the French don't mind anchoring close. I would not consider saying that to be bashing anyone.
@@SailLife Merci d'avoir répondu.
Love the Frigate colony and of Course Ava's commentary on the Barbuda land ownership was very interesting and engaging . but the highlight was Mads pining to have a large inflatable sack on his neck (a-la the frigate birds) to attract a mate when he was in high school
Great video, guys. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful Easter Sunday
Thanks 🙂 You too 🙂
If your sack looked like that of a Frigate Bird , I think a trip to the doctors might be a good idea and be prepared for some bad news.
You're most definitely not a Maroon Mads; European pink perhaps, but not maroon.
Instead of a pink throat, we humans get to talk to each other and I know you are an expert talker in at least two languages. I've been observing your steadily improving English for the past few years and I'm impressed!
Cruisers that come from areas where moorings are the norm, seem to think that anchoring as close as they were in a mooring field is ok. It's not!
So yeah I am guilty of this "anchoring close when plenty of room". So the Chesapeake is a bit more compact. But what's likely going on, they are close to you likely because they have no clue where to anchor, and if you are there, maybe you know something they do not. "Local knowledge" if you will.
11:36 - Security? Swingers? ...not sure. I've seen the same behavior with dry camping on BLM.
Perhaps it's "Social Proof": "…a psychological and social phenomenon wherein people copy the actions of others in choosing how to behave in a given situation". Someone saw you'd anchored, seems like a good spot, go there too.
Hi Mads. Obviously the same etiquette as parking one's car in an empty car park! You can be certain that someone will park next to you and leave the rest of the car park empty. Safety in numbers perhaps 😅
Just like when you park your car at the back of Tesco’s where no one is when you come back out, there’s a car over the side of you
We aren’t sailors, my wife gets sea sick even before the ferry leaves harbour. However we are motorhome travellers and we find as you, there’ll be tons of space on an aire de service but still people will gather close around, maybe it’s a security thing?
Clean the lense once in a while. We all tend to react to truth in bizarre and all to often negative ways (Plato's parable of the cave). Thanks for making the videos: happy easter.
I also would like to make a dinghy pretty much with the same specs. Carbon, unsinkable, sailable and in my case electric propulsion.
Do you have any specific models and/or plans in mind? (Except a ripoff of OC tenders… 😇)
Thats to bad there was no diving guys. I love the diving videos.
If I was in the other boat I wouldn't be so close, unless I knew it was you guys, in which case I would anchor close and invite you for dinner.
Please do 😁 If it was someone that recognized the boat I’d be perfectly okay with them anchoring that close to come say hi. It’s just odd being that close and not having any kind of connection.
Awesome video guys and gals
Thank you!
Have a great Easter.
Hi Mads & Ava, that filter looks to be more of a dryer than a filter. It makes sense that the capacity is greater in cool air as less humidity to remove.
@loloaqici82qb4ipp That's exactly what it is. You want totally dry air inside your scuba cylinders.
Good on you Mads and Ava there’s more to life than flash hotels, resorts and overdevelopment.
It's the same with fishing on the banks. Everyone will crowd together, even though often they will all end up in the wrong place and not catching anything.
The compressor filter strip will likely only show moisture in the molecular sieve (the white balls). So you would likely taste / smell the oil in the gas if the filter was to "break through." So really, providing that there is no contaminants like exhaust fumes, you can leave the filter for a fair while. TBH there is no way of telling from the filter if the nasty stuff is making it through, such as CO.
