Stop drawing parallels uselessly to things that have happened to you, and look at this INDIVIDUAL CASE. This kid, as far as we know (LEGALLY and MORALLY) did not commit a crime. According to the evidence we have, we watched a person get injured and then flee for medical attention. You are NOT required to stay at this scene if you're sufficiently injured, as far as we know, he was sufficiently injured. Even a fracture, or concussion are sufficient injuries That's it; and that defense would hold up in court, and that kid would be fine. Pursuing legal action can only get you so far. You can tell the people with real lives from those without due to their complete lack of understanding of how much a simple civil suite will cost them; relative to the supposed earnings they believe they'll make. You'd be lucky to break even, much less pay off damages; that person files for bankruptcy and you are at a loss. Bankruptcy covers personal injury cases, unless the person was innately committing a crime (That is, one that can be proven, crashing into you is a specific case type and would require specific underlying circumstances like DUI or Driving without a License to all for the offender to be considered liable despite automatic stay.)
It was a crime when they ran from the scene, not everyone can handle the cost of repairing some damage to their car, that brings down it's value when attempting to trade in/sell in the future.

Chef is a cinematic masterpiece. Jon Favreau is the Shakespeare of our generation. The story he created makes you feel like you are on this journey with him. He changes people’s mind with his movie too, makes it normal and acceptable to do what he does when a few years ago it was frowned upon and seemed like a horrible thing to do. This movie makes me rethink what I want to do with my life, it captured me and is holding me hostage.

I don’t know local laws but for the ATV one... hit and run is a crime everywhere but in most states, riding an ATV down the street is illegal and in more liberal states, it’s illegal to ride one at all without a helmet. So it’s for certain a crime. How much of one depends on the state.
That’s why I’m so confused as to why Ian is defending all these people lol he’s making out that the people who are mad about criminals destroying and stealing off them are dumb & the people breaking the law have done nothing wrong lol
Yeah, the ATV accident is some significant damage to that car. While I do hope the kid is ok, he is still at fault and should be held accountable. The kid really shouldn’t have left the scene, and talked to the owner right then. The owners of the vehicle should approach the family for damages cost, but if they are refusing to pay then they should take it to a small claims court.
The atv thing, i can't really side with you on that. Mistake or not he trashed the funny bumper on the car because he was being careless. Someone needs to be held accountable
@@Max-ws9kv It's definitely an accident. I can't imagine that teen went into that situation with the intent of fucking up their neighbor's car. They ran because they were afraid of the consequences.
@@redholm That's not how insurance works. They'll review the evidence, find the owner not at fault, and cover the damages without a rate increase. Unless you're covered by, like, The General or something, but that's hardly insurance.
Thinking about it from my middle class ass perspective, if I woke up and my car bumper was completely torn off because of a kid’s mistake-I’d understand it’s a mistake, but there’s no way I’m going to shrug it off and pretend nothing happened. That take kept bothering me
It's not just that, I bet if you caused damage to the kids atv or his parents vehical they would be suing you like crazy, so fuck them and make them pay.
I disagree with Ian on this. Yeah the guy's life comes first regardless whether they caused the accident or not. But to walk away after hitting someone's car when you clearly see it infront of you is not " they are just having fun"... lets get real
Like he said it was an accident, in cases like this the right course of action is them trying to contact the owner (or their parents when they hear about it) and pay for the damage. But these comments are all about taking them to court, small court, etc. Which is funny. I don't think you would go to jail for that in America (might be wrong). edit : ofc I'm just stating my opinion you have yours, it's true what the original post said had nothing wrong at all.

Most of these takes are generally really confusing to me, what the kid running straight into the car did wrong was obviously not to have an accident but(supposedly, what the hell do I know) running away from it without informing the person whose car he just wrecked. If I get contacted by some kid who had a dumb accident he could luckily at least walk away from but fucked up my car in the process, I'll try to be cool and work something out... But if someone does something like that and tries to shirk responsibility, I think they need to be reprimanded somehow. I feel like maybe Ian and I aged in different directions or something, idk
I mean I don't like the tone of how people are saying shit about dumb kids being dumb kids either, but at the same time I agree with your pov too, kids fucking shit up in the neighbourhood is both predictable but is also something that has to be curbed as they age/mature, and doing damage like that to a car can be pretty serious for a lot of people. Like yeah you gotta keep your cool and remember that its just a dumb kid, but there needs to be some resolution. With the bumper it looks like it could probably be put back on, so really a good 'punishment' in this case would just be the kid helping you fix it, so they have to give up some time for doing some stupid shit, and maybe they'll do their stupid shit in some place else where such outcomes don't occur next time.
@@AbeYousef I can tell you that bumper cant just be put back on. Not to mention the fender has to have been damaged aswell. Also just putting on a new bumper is hard when where it mounts/attaches to it going to be ruined. Plus they also hit the other vehicle. Wouldn’t insurance cover that? I don’t think Ian’s defending it, I think he’s more or less saying he’s just a kid dude. And these people are acting like horrific crimes are being committed. When it was an accident. Accidents happen. The kid almost died lol
Bro that is hilarious they said “he stole a pack” and someone commented “pack? That’s a gas tank” and someone really responded with “and that makes it okay? Stealing is stealing.”
“Who’s crime is it” I don’t think you know wtf you’re talking about dubbz. Hitting the car by mistake then staying and calling someone he may have gotten away with it but because he fled the scene it is most definitely a crime.
Imagine not understanding that wreckless driving, without a license, on an unregister vehicle which is not road legal on a public roadway and then fleeing the accident is not a crime but multiple crimes.

Yes. In most of these examples, the homeowners are justified in their displeasure. Either their property or their neighbour's property has been damaged. However, what Ian is rightly pointing out is the high-and-mighty, righteous passion that many of these boomers are burning with in those comments. He's making fun of how over the top their responses are: They grabbed one shred of moral superiority and now act as paragons of justice. It's the whole "kids these days" and "I want to see a manager" mentality rolled into one. 100% file a police report, 100% seek compensation. However, just because you're justified, doesn't mean you have to be a prick about it and make it a commentary on the state of society and the bad parenting skills of America.
It feels weird becoming the boomer but I guess I've just outgrown these videos. If I woke up and saw some kid's had taken the bumper off the front my car while playing on their 4 wheeler then I'd be pissed and I would fully expect their parents to sort it out. I've got enough bills already before worrying about the cops giving me a fine on my way to work for my busted up car.
If it makes you feel better, I've only just entered adulthood and I echo your sentiment whole-heartedly. There's a difference between recognizing it was a mistake and not seeking any compensation for the damages.

How did he justify something that didn't happen? You see it as hit and run but that implies the person in question planned such a crime when it was clearly an accident also easy to tell by their reactions. You are not winning a small claims court or anything of the sort by putting it up as a hit and run thing. That's an instant loss regardless of how you view things. Does that mean they should be scot free? No but correct labeling is very important when dealing with legal shit. He was only commenting on that.
Ian: Kids in their 20s wrecked my car to oblivion and ran away but the total amount of happiness in the world has increased so is it really a bad thing?
nah i think he was pointing out the pretty unikely assumption that this was intended. and instead of people also being at least a bit concerned for this idiot they think he willfully smashed into the car flying off headfirst. he probably assumes it is obvious that it was still dumb and destructive, just pointing out the weirdness in response.
