Twice named prime minister of Great Britain, he is best known for forging alliances with the United States and Soviet Union to defeat the dark regime of Hitler and Nazi Germany during World War II. And, did you know, he was also one of the most famous whisky drinkers that ever lived?

    Love when you go into the history of a cocktail. I love when Aaron hands you a cigar and you talk about the days when you smoked at the old bar. Need more of these. Always a great day when you post a new video. Always learn something new. Cheers Bruce, Aaron and Viv!

    Almost a whole hour and nobody has made the joke yet, so I guess I get the honor; I always thought Churchill's favorite drink was a glass of scotch, raised in the general direction of France.

    Terrific video Bruce!! I am a huge history buff and I have read a lot of Winston Churchill and he sure loved his cocktails!! he was quite an extraordinary Prime Minister. He had his eccentricities and flaws but then don't we all?! Lol! I didn't know he loved the Churchill but I should have known! This is his drink! But wow why did he choose that lousy red label for a cocktail? Well it's okay but there was and is better brands to choose from! I shouldn't be a whisky snob! Lol! I love your introductory info in the video! First rate and always super entertaining! Hey, I can picture the old days when you smoked in the bar you worked in and left the cigarette while preparing cocktails! 🙂Things have sure changed haven't they?!! At 58 a lot seems so different now! Thanks for the new video!! I look forward to them! Big treats! Have a lovely weekend Bruce and I hope all is well!! Cheers!! 🙂

    Found you guys while searching youtube to see if anyone had made a Churchills Courage cocktail as served in the present day at the Ritz in London. I tried one, and found it to be very smooth and nice, I can find the ingredients, but not anyone who can convincingly mix one.
    Perhaps a challenge for you over 2024.

    while you cinnanom stick ist smoking away mix
    half an once of cold brew coffee ( you could try coffee liquor), a quater once of maple sirup, and one and a half once of whisky ( i used rye) in a shaker (ice yada yada, iam talking to a master) add a daysh of agustura,take away you cops glass, chill it and then strain your cocktail into glass, drop you still smoking cinnanom cigar (usaly you have to re light it^^) in and well you got yourself a churchills breakfast

    Churchill would’ve drunk johhnie walker because he drank it with soda water which was a common practice amongst British soldiers in the colonies in Africa and India because of the water quality.
    It’s like the Gin and Tonic originated from the fact water mixed with quinine was a common treatment for malaria by British troops in India, the old tonic water was far more bitter then current tonic water and gin made the mixture palatable while providing some disinfection

    I do not drink alcohol because I am a muslim. But it makes me curious, is scotch a brand of alcoholic drink, or a specific kind of alcoholic drink? Are there any several brand of scotch? And what makes scotch different to whiskey and gin?

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  Рік тому +1

      Scotch is a specific kind of whisky that contains a malty flavour since malted barley is the primary component. Kilning with peat gives it that distinct smoky flavour. There are countless brands of scotch produced in 5 distinct regions of Scotland - Campbeltown, Highland, Islay, Lowland and Speyside. Each region offers different qualities and characteristics of the spirit. From the smoky essence of Islay malts to the sweeter flavours produced by Northern Highlands, everything from production methods to soil, climate, water, and sunlight, will influence how the whisky smells and tastes. The real magic happens as the whisky ages in oak casks. As it develops it becomes smoother and more complex in taste. It becomes full-bodied, featuring a longer finish. The whisky also gains flavour from the cask itself, which is often treated with spices and other flavourings to enrich the whisky further.
      I hope this short explanation helps you understand a little more about scotch. Cheers!

    Churchil was a drunk with nightmarish vissions of power... Red Label is as good as Scotch gets, if you like that malts, smoke, bitternes.
