@@Werollwithbestplus To put the battle of Cannae in perspective, imagine if today, the US military lost 33 million soldiers, dozens of congressmen, and the president all in one battle. There were even accounts of roman soldiers being killed in the battle of Cannae, and were so tightly packed that they were still standing up, even though they were dead. Also, the Apinnies are hardly the Alps. Not hard enough to traverse to cause a meaningful increase in an army's attrition or desertion rates.

With this in mind, 1 talent of silver (1200 ounces or 1093.75 troy ounces) is currently worth around $24,370 USD (1093.75 x 22.28 USD/troy ounce). So, 4400 talents are about $107,228,000 USD.

You were seen as a weirdo and sometimes a liability if you werent racist, because back then, it was safer to be racist than to not be. It was already easy to die and you would only live like 40 years max on average, so the rule was: If you dont know what it is, its probably bad for you. And the native tribes of Europe fought each other as well. Rome just was stronger, so it was more of a threat.

On your guy's point of "if you understand, do you agree?", me personally, no. Understanding doesn't mean you agree, its a thing of understanding the reason but not agreeing to the action.
I understand that Hamilcar is mad at the treatment of his people after the First Punic War, Id be mad too if I fought tooth and nail for my country only to lose, but at the same time, being me, I disagree with taking violent revenge cause I dont believe revenge or violence are good responses to the vast majority of things.

Strange considering he wasn't black himself, anyway Rome destroyed him in the end and won all the punic wars, before and after Hannibal.

Romans are the basic of modern western values and civilization, all american continent countrys to most europeans country (russia included ) have romans influent in their coltures. So hating the romans for what they did more than 2000 years ago is illogic for me , like only 200 years ago from napoleon we started to think ( and not in all countrys ) we are all humans on this planet. For most of history if you were diferent ( not only skin colour even just have a diferent religion , languege or diferent accent was enoght to start a war ) like 120 years ago in europe existed child labour in mines. ( and with child, i mean 10 years old girls and boys , just like in 2023 africa because yes in the most poor country like in the African continent still today exist child labor ) just to explain how even in the most rich continent 120 years ago thinks that today in most rich country we consider inumane was pretty normal.

yeah, everything must be put into that time's context, especially morality. If we look at it with the modern lens there's absolutely no one in history that we would consider to be a good person
