Not bad. Not bad at all. If AMD keep this up then my next CPU, that I intend to buy in 2019, will be an AMD R7 3700X. Until then, my delided i7 4790k will have to do the job.

Note that you may be forced to switch sooner if a smeltdown bug exploit goes wild. Intel board partners are for the vast majority not providing motherboard updates for older than Skylake CPUs so you are not protected at all. Remember that the OS part is completely worthless without the motherboard part for smeltdown so basically, all Intel users with older than Skylake CPUs are sitting on a ticking time bomb (myself included with my Xeon which I will upgrade to a Threadripper 2000 series later this year).

Agreed. Well, I'm still rocking an FX-8350 which has served me well. But I'm finally going to upgrade to the 2700x. But we should see even bigger and better improvements come the true "Zen 2". 7nm is going to be sick.

All games benchmark average on GTX 1080 Ti
    i7-8700k (stock) = 10 fps more
    R7-2700x (stock) = 10 fps less
Think about this for a second, what if you have GTX 1080, 1070 or below, the R7-2700x is completely a beast gaming CPU. There won't be bottleneck at all, so why are you saying R7-2700x is not as good as 8700k for gaming? That's a mislead.
Also, while the R7-2700x has more cores/threads and annihilated the i7-8700k in productivity benchmarks..
There is no question here that the R7 is a damn good CPU!

very nice video, there is only one caveat I think you should have included in your video regarding warp stabilizer. to say the 8700k out performs ryzen in this task is a bit misleading. it is true that with one instance of warp stabilizer, the 8700k will outperform ryzen, however warp stabilizer is a effect that processes in the background allowing you to continue working while processing, or activating multiple instances of warp stabilizer. the 8700 k may have a marginally faster analysation time, but ryzen will be able to analyse twice as many clips at the same time making ryzen effectively faster in practical application.

the weird thing is i3-8100 was matching the R7 2700x in some cases
and very close by few frames in some cases too
so that still not worth to spent double the price
specially with the come of the 70$ only i3-9100f cpu
who beat up that R7 2700x in gaming and in single and dual core performance as cpu.userbenchmark test says .
im actually confused what to buy now sine i know that the new Intel 9th generation are that strong
i know that R5 3600 is much better then even most of R7 models and most of intel cpu's but its not available in our country and not gonna be for a while cause of some new government regulations and rules they gonna apply on electronic products shops
so the only cpu's left in our area are 9th Intel generation and ryzen 7 3700x which too expensive and waste of money
for someone who need to do like small montages in Adobe pPro from time to time and most of time doing graphic design

Thanks for the review, very informative.
I have preferred to use AMD solutions over Intel as I see Intel using its market share to push out the competition. Presently I have an AMD FX-8350 and recently ordered the Ryzen 7 - 1700, I find that the 1700 has what I need for a mix of work related issues and Gaming play. Also the price deference in the US is a little deferent then what I have seen in the EU. For instance the Ryzen 7 - 1700 is going for $229.99 While the 7 - 2700x is going for $370.00. The deference between the two is not worth the price increase for me.
So while I would like the Ryzen 7 - 2700X I’ll settle for the lowly but functional Ryzen 7 - 1700, it’s still a better and faster system then what I presently have and I do trust the longevity of the AMD products.
Thanks again for a very good and balanced review.
    NV

AMD and Intel's process widths are not measured in the same way and are in no way shape or form directly comparable. AMD 12nm is about equivalent to Intel 16nm though Samsung would call it 8nm. Why? Because all three companies measure their process in very different ways. Samsung devalue the currency of process shrink by measuring direct data path only. Intel have been the most honest by labelling their process as the minimum space taken up by data-path and the required surrounding area required to keep data paths distinct. When talking about the NM processes of various fabs we are not comparing like for like. Intel's current 14nm is in fact considerably tighter than AMD's new 12nm. AMD would call Intel's 14nm process 9nm or thereabouts. Samsung are just chancers. This reminds me of the old Wattage days with home hi-fi systems when Amstrad and others adopted "PMPO" (Peak music power output) and suddenly claimed 200 watt amps that were in fact about 15 watts measured in honest old "RMS".

Wow, fantastic video! I just found your channel on accident, but I was so impressed with the review I subscribed! One question though: did you actually run all those tests yourself, or are you compiling data from other sources to make these charts? (Not judging if you did, I was just genuinely confused about how one man could have so many CPUs lying around.) I have never, ever seen anyone pair a 2200G with a 1080 Ti for CPU performance testing. The 8700 k is still the king in gaming and very few people actually put the Ryzen´s potential on workload to good use. Buying a new CPU because it does well in productive environments to sit and game all day is rather silly. If you are at 1440p like me then it all matters squat when it comes to gaming, a new more powerful GPU is all that matters if you bought a top line CPU within the last 4 years, AMD or Intel. My 6700k 4,9 ghz will last me another 4-5 years if it doesn´t crumble, clock speeds are dead in the water. Very few reviewers fail to remind their viewers of the high resolution trap, most gamers I know of don´t need a new CPU. It´s baffling to think that the pentium 4 reached 5 ghz 11 years ago and we still linger there.

    • @asdfomfglol
      @asdfomfglol 6 років тому

Pentium 4 reached 5 GHz 11 years ago. So what? The IPC improvements have come pretty far since then, otherwise you´re free to see benchmark comparisons all over the place, mate.
And yes, of course the GPU´s the most important part for gaming.

No clue how your OC 2700X gets higher ST score than stock, which should hit around 180 +/- 2 points, not 175...

Hi, Thanks for the vid. I have a B350 mobo, and I dont want to upgrade to an x470 or any other board, but I do plan to upgrade my CPU to the 2700X. While I am currently overclocking my Ryzen 3 chip, I dont plan on overclocking the 2700X, as I dont deem it necessary. In this video you mentioned that you expect performance issues with a 2700X paired with a B350. Could you please elaborate. I believe there may be more than a few people wanting to know what you meant by that.

Here when I compare my bench with CINEBENCH_R15 I get 1780 1800 my clock set to 4.0ghz with the default cooler, I think it run pretty good for this board.
I don't have get any problem in 1 month for now.

Do I plan to upgrade? That depends on the $, not the latest chip to drop. But I am very favourable towards AMD 2700 or the X model, and a new X470 motherboards. There is every likelihood that I won't have a grand & a half to spend on a new desktop in the next 12 months, so that makes the Ryzen 3000 series a very real possibility....
I do want a half TB M.2 drive or larger, I do want at least 32GB of RAM, (I have that much in my current 6700) and I have a GTX750Ti, so I'd want something a bit bigger & faster than that.
Do I NEED any of this? Not really... About the only thing I ever see now that gets near full CPU duty cycle, is when I try to boot all dozen guest virtual-machines at the same time, which I hardly ever do.
Let's look at the gaming and the video. I do spend roughly an hour a day playing a flight simulator, (FlightGear) but the 750Ti is not even at a trot for that. Nothing else I do asks a whole lot more of the video than that. If I dropped a modern first person shooter on there, things might be different, but I'm a 55 year old grand father. I don't need GTAuto to show me what chatting up hookers is like - I can remember it. Like the driving, it's probably more fun to do in real life, but it's a whole lot safer to do in a video game....

Small gap between parts on gaming benches. Also, I didn't see a reference to memory speeds. Is this another of these benchmarks that have the Intel parts running 3600 and the Ryzen running 3000? I seen some of those "tests" and even then the 2700x was either right with or ahead of the 8700k.. although the CAS wasn't listed at all. I have no idea why some actually post video reviews with comparisons between asymmetric setups. Especially when the same memory kit can be used in both systems.

Curious, why would you assume that I'm testing different memory speeds across the tested CPU's?
The memory used is 3200MHz C16 across *all* CPUs, unless stated otherwise (for the G4560, 2200G, i3 8100 etc.)

Or I could just keep my Gigabyte B350 Gaming 3, buy Fuzedrive and a 2700x and hope that board can handle the boost clocks?....IDK! Lol.

And for single threaded performance this is not a true IPC test, but rather a Max Frequency IPC, there's a big difference between the two.
And what's the "objective" when using gta5 (a shitty old 3d engine) a badly optimized old game, and PUBG a HORRID optimized game that was a broken mess from launch time until now, with glitch and crash galore?, especially since there are dozens of well made new games to choose from.

My 2700X at stock speeds running Prime 95 for one hour maintained 60C. I am using a custom watercooling system, so definitely better results vs. the stock cooler 😎
Also, I was able to run 4 x 8GB sticks of Corsair DDR4 RGB memory @ 3333Mhz. However, 3466Mhz failed. I will have to test 3400Mhz using manual settings in the BIOS as there is no SPD provided for this speed step. I used an X370 AsRock Fatal1ty Professional Gaming motherboard.

A 240mm AiO isn't any better than the biggest Notcua fan tho, why risk buying something expensive with more parts that can and WILL fail when you can achieve the same result with air cooling?
After 4 years with liquid cooling and various failure points (leaking swivel fittings, leaking radiator from EK and a failing pump) and a whole lot of wasted money when the radiator had a leak; 1000w psu, mobo, r9 290x, pci-e ssd and fx8350.. it's safe to say that watercooling is a waste of money.
So unless you have money to waste on new parts when something goes wrong, just go air.

AMD may have taken over a larger part of the CPU market. However intel is not complaining because it is selling very well too. What is restricting them sales numbers is GPU and memory prices. If your main focus is productivity, well you don't need much more than the cheapest 4Gb video and 8gb RAM for your multi monitor set and spreadsheets. If you are paying someone to run a desktop, pay for AC to keep the box cool, rrunning and comfortable, more productivity cheaper works. AS for a 2700 or a 8700, well until memory and GPU gets a LOT more reasonable Optimus Tech can keep talking and I will keep listening. I will continue gaming with the 5 year old system I have.

i5-8400 is the overall king at price/performance when it comes to gaming at any resolution! But I love that AMD is so competitive these days. Can't wait to see what the R7 2600 ends up being. It'll likely have similar gaming performance to the R7 2700, assuming similar clock speeds with 2 fewer cores, but can they beat the i5-8400 price?
I bought the i5-8400 for my main rig 4 months ago, as I wanted to primarily balance gaming and Adobe workloads. Adobe CC software doesn't currently take full advantage Hyper Threading with a 6 core chip in most cases, so the i5-8400 still is fantastic for editing RAW photos.
On the flip side, more cores may be more future proof, but I've gave up future proofing long ago. Just sell your platform and buy new when you need to, future-proofing is over priced! :P

I WISH people would start testing in 4K. Yes I UNDERSTAND 1080P shows the CPU performance more. Obviously! But I have a 4K monitor, and I am considering if I should "side-upgrade" or not from my 4790k! (Please also start testing more all the way back to sandy bridge, as IPC hasnt gone up much since then, there has been little reason to upgrade, but still makes it easier!) This video wasn't as useful as I had liked, but you make good content, keep it up!

Was your Intel test bench patch for Spectre and Meltdown ? The x470 comes already patched via BIOS...other test sites are showing post patch Intel systems at lower performance relative to 2700x. There are also variables still in play with memory...some memory brands, due to sub timings, perform substantially better on x470 than others...Geil in particular was well below competing memory brands when tested on x470 and it appears even within brands there are performance differences...

Could you specify the number of threads used by each games in your benchs ? Of course if you put a 8 core mulithreading beast in front of a 4 core clock speed beast, the second will always be seen as better "for gaming" in (old) titles limited to 4 thread like GTA V, while the results for games with more threads like Watch Dogs 2 will be much more different.
Mostly when knowing that recent titles are using more and more threads than old gen AAA games, you could argue that the said CPU is more future proof for gaming than the other.

I read it's for controlling/syncing the RGB lights.
This feature shall only be available for 'preinstalled' fans. The others shall be controlled by the mainboard somehow instead. But if you have one of these USB-programmable ones there is a program by Cooler Master in which you can set your preferred settings.
Thanks to this USB-RGB standard you may sync even through some different manufacturers (if compatible) and therefore save yourself from getting *insane*.
I think you can sometimes even change the light depending on it's measured temperature on some devices who do support USB-RGB.
