    How can you be negative on a stock cooler that you get for free. With the direct Intel competitor you get nothing......

    • @e1337prodigy
      @e1337prodigy 6 років тому +8

      AMD should offer an OEM version, no cooler for those wanting to fit their own. £15-30 cheaper hopefully?

    • @Ronny999x
      @Ronny999x 6 років тому

      e1337prodigy yeah i hope they bring out a tray version. But sometimes in the past the version with cooler was cheaper for some reason...

      What rubs me wrong the most... Is that some fuckwit reviewers are benching these Zen+ chips with their box coolers... And the Intels (or even box cooler-less Ryzen 1000)... are benched with stuff like Corsair H150i PROs... FFS, are they for real? So many garbage reviews....

    • @e1337prodigy
      @e1337prodigy 6 років тому +3

      He is using an aftermarket cooler. Also give them a break, it takes time etc to test/write up; as he said and other reviewers have said there are so many bios updates which will likely give different scores etc. Give it a few weeks and you will probably see some reviews coming up with aftermarket coolers. However if you watch some other reviews you will find these chips are quite limited on air/water.

    There is one very good reason to buy the new Ryzen. Last year I had no chance to buy the AM4 platform and only now I am starting to save up for it. The refreshed CPU's are much more appealing to me. The dynamic boosting is especially appealing to me, as it is essentialy a power-efficient, manufacturer-approved oveclocking. I am confident about saying that there is a big market of people who are still using DDR3-era computers like me.

    Not sure what you mean by "you need the new motherboards". I have an X370. Worked immediately and solid. Game speed wise? This gets the same scores as my old i5 7600K. Last years most popular game processor. Also... at stock settings the 1600X sits at 3.7 GHz under load. This 2600X sits around 4.1 GHz and sometimes a bit higher. In fact they work on the B350 too. You just have to update your BIOS before swapping the CPU.

    I would agree with Michael Gusevsky regarding the cooler, considering it`s free and you could buy probably a much better one for 25$. Intel doesn`t give you even the choice!

  • @AC_Milan1899
    @AC_Milan1899 6 років тому +7

    Ridiculous, the cooler gets good money on eBay even if you don't use it. It seems like money doesn't matter to all the reviewers. £50 difference is a big amount. Intel can't touch the value proposition offered by AMD.

      Same thing I've come to understand from most other reviewers. Am confused by his very explicit statement opposite what all others are saying. Glad to see some one else questioning/confused by his statement as such.

    • @whelpthereitis2577
      @whelpthereitis2577 6 років тому +2

      At least so far, it appears that until refinements to the BIOS for 470 are made there is some but very little improvement, for now. Comparison videos, like those done by Gamers Nexus and Bitwit tend toward this being the case. However, I am on the hunt to gain as much knowledge on the facts as possible. In this case I'm not sure if KGT actually tested this information or just read it off the paperwork.
      Evidence is pointing to the 370 being a perfectly fine option if the builder already has one. If building a new system then obviously go directly to the 470.

    • @kevinroberts781
      @kevinroberts781 6 років тому +4

      Agreed. At this time we need more info. What I'm seeing at this point, if you already have a b350/x370 then no point buying a x470. Even the bios update for the x370 boards seem to support higher memory speeds just like the x470's.
      Power phases on the x470 may be better optimized for the 2000 series?
      XFR2 is baked in to the chip. Many reviews show it working fine on the x370 boards.

    • @kevinroberts781
      @kevinroberts781 6 років тому

      StoreMI is actually Enmotus' FuzeDrive www.enmotus.com/amd and it works on 300 series boards. It's just free with the x470.

  • @whelpthereitis2577
    @whelpthereitis2577 6 років тому +2

    Confused by your claim the 470 is mandatory. Every other reviewer says opposite and you really didn't offer any evidence why. Please test again and deliver back. This truly is a question I am looking for a solid answer to and your statement/claim has thrown a monkey in the wrench to everything else I've learned.

    • @maydaygoingdown5602
      @maydaygoingdown5602 6 років тому

      It's due to if you want to be able to take advantage of features of newer cpus coming out up to 2020 you need a 470.
      The non 470 boards will accept the newer cpus such as 2800X etc but you won't be able to utilise extra features like bandwidth increase etc, everything to do with memory and cache etc.

  • @Synthematix

    This cpu cooler is better than ANYTHING intel have EVER made, it looks beautiful when lit, and never, repeat NEVER buy anything from gigashite, well they are just that, shite. sensiMI works on x370 you dont need an x470 board at all. and UUrgh, that gigashite uefi is absolutely HORRID

    1pc Twitch streamers (who don't already have a 6 or greater core CPU) are the ones who stand to gain the most by getting the RYZEN 2700X
    The only reason I purchased my 2700X is because I'm done streaming in NVENC at 6k bitrate (the cap on twitch for affiliates) and want to upgrade to an x264 stream without using a 2nd machine or paying out the wazoo for a 1950x equivalent.
    The reason I didn't upgrade previously was because I was new to streaming, and wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it enough to upgrade from an average looking NVENC stream to a higher quality x264 one.
    Now that I know that I enjoy streaming enough for it to be worth the upgrade, I'm going for the 2700X... it just makes sense, and I'm finally ready to upgrade from my i7-950 (it sure lasted me long)
    If you already have a relatively recent/decent system, and are video editing, or doing AVE stuff.... the seconds in rendering time aren't substantial enough for the upgrade... And if you make media for a living you should be waiting for the next Threadripper , if you stream on UA-cam... you have a higher bitrate ceiling so NVENC might be the better option... If you're recording game-play you shouldn't be using x.264 anyway (you should be recording with NVENC.)

    Love the video! This will be my ryzen upgrade and I was wondering...I noticed hwmonitor said your ram was 2133 but you said xfr makes it run 3400 does that mean I don't need to worry about buying the most expensive faster ram?

    • @KitGuruTech
      @KitGuruTech  6 років тому +6

      Leo here - I'll need to pick my words more carefully in reviews. The RAM defaults to 2133MHz but as it is rated at 3400MHz that extra speed is enabled by setting XMP in the BIOS. You don't need (or want) mega fast DDR4 with Ryzen but should go for 3200MHz or 3400MHz that is compatible with your motherboard. Precision Boost 2 and XFR2 relate to CPU core speed(s)

      3200 MHz CL14 is the sweet spot for Ryzen (and according to the videos so far that applies to both generations, although you'll want tighter sub timings with the second generation if you can't get higher frequency then 3200 MHz)
      Honestly 3400 MHz isn't worth the extra money if you can get good enough sub-timings with something else.

    • @scottstamm7022
      @scottstamm7022 6 років тому +1

      Team Group makes really good RAM at a affordable price! I bought their Deam Dark Pro kits. 3200MHz at C14 (14-14-14-31) and it was plug and play.

      @Luredreier 6 років тому

      Sounds pretty decent. =)
      Mind you, when I'm talking about sub-timings, I'm not just talking about those numbers you mentioned, those are all timings.
      Sub-timings are all the hidden stuff that we usually don't see but that are made available to us in the UEFIs of the AM4 motherboards.

      A cooler Master 212 costs US$30 so $60-70 sounds way off base. If you want to use the bundled cooler then clearly it is a bonus. If you do not it is irrelevant. As for being a shill, that's a fairly daft thing to say.

    Just a quick question Leo (to which I can probably guess the answer); basically I'm skint, but need to build a new 4k editing / programming rig "on the cheap". As it will have to be my sole machine, at the moment, It will need to do a spot of gaming too, but we're talking KSP & the odd (usually disastrous) foray into World Of Warships, etc not super heavy stuff at mega frame-rates. Currently, I can get bargain basement 1700x's (or even 1800x's) , for between 50 - £100 cheaper, (new), than a 2700x (I.E. 2600 money - which I'm actually seriously considering, too, - I really am that skint!). I'm also looking to purchase second-hand chips to drive the costs down further.
    Should I go with the older first gen Ryzen's or fork aout the extra on Gen 2 (my guess is "yes", I can buy a bigger SSD, more memory, or better GPU / PSU with the savings)?
    Many thanks in advance!

    When I upgraded from C2D 8400 to i5 3350p, I got more than 100% CPU processing power (higher clock speed + 2x more cores). Last few years the RAM prices increse has disuaded me from upgrading my PC, though I am now considering a B350 motherboard with a Ryzen 2600x as a substantial processing power improvement for my workload. Increased game performance is something I expect too, though if I can have over 100fps then its good (75Hz monitor).

    Unless you lived under a rock, 2017, for someone like myself who has a 4790K, brought nothing to the table in terms of gaming except for the 1080 Ti.
    I might, or might not, be tempted by the Ryzen this year, or just wait for the 7nm versions next year.
    I also have a sneaking suspicion that AMD is holding back a 2800X for when Intel brings out it's newest incremental offering for this year.

    Actually most manufacturers ended up bringing all the boost features to x370 boards that had adequate vrms. The only difference between the two is x470 comes with a storemi license, which is a rebrand of fuzedrive that only works on ryzen anyways.

    Great review.
    I'm building a new AMD-based water cooled system and am up in the air which processor and motherboard to use. I'll being doing a lot of math intensive work using CAD/CAM which is a mixed desktop/cloud app, Blender, other 3D programs generating large meshes for 3D printing. Gaming is focused on realistic simulations which are also math intensive.
    The 2700x seems pretty ideal for my needs with either the X470 AORUS or ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero MB.
    But, I don't need the air cooler (waste) and at $330 US the chip seems pricey when U can pick up a Threadripper 1900 for $399 and related MB such as the TaiChi, ASUS, AORUS (TR), etc. for about $200 more, but spread out over a 5 year period.
    Typical back-and-forth with a new system.
    If anyone reads this and has a recommendation it is surely appreciated.

    If you have lots of money, build a new computer every year and ONLY use it to play certain games then go Intel/Nvidia. If your use a computer for ANYTHING else then the only choice is AMD.

    It is titles like these which make people think," Oh this gen is no better than previous" whereas the reality is it easily does 4.2GHz out of the box and has great XFR boost as well as boost in efficiency as well as memory support.

    Are you testing with latest april meltdown and spectre v1 & v2 patches and latest bios? New patches seems to be showing some performance hit on Intel system ,
    Anandtech is getting very different results from all other reviewers who are not applying new patches.
    What do your take on the new patches?

    Hi Leo. Enjoy your videos. Question: why do you have a thing against the grooves on the cooler heatsink? Seems to me that they increase the effective contact area when filled with TIM shouldn't they? The noise of the cooler being an issue I can understand, but the grooves, not so much unless it's just an aesthetics thing.

      No. You need a dedicated graphic card with the Ryzen 2700X. Can of course be something cheap. Intel CPUs comes with a integrated chip (iGPU)

      Ryzen 3600 got newest architecture and maybe 5-10 fps more in games, I'd pick 2700x for futureproofing and extra cores. Kinda no brainer for me.

    It would be interesting to see this CPU on B350 chipset. AMD promised we can use new CPU on "old" motherboards. How much we lose exactly?

    • @OmniMontel
      @OmniMontel 6 років тому

      Darko Sola I don't personally own the new processor yet but from the reviews I have seen you are losing xfr2 and a little bit of over clocking headroom. Short version the upgrade from ryzen to ryzen 2 isn't so great as to make most people rush out spend the money for a new processor though everyone agrees that it's a decent advance. So from what I am hearing you see about 8% of an already questionable from a value standpoint gain.

    • @DS-pk4eh
      @DS-pk4eh 6 років тому

      I have Ryzen 5 1600 and I am very happy with performance increase that I got from my previous CPU. If I change though, it would be for R2700 as it has more cores, so when making my builds(compiling), I could shave off some minutes from it. So question is, would I lose a lot staying with B350 chipset?

    • @OmniMontel
      @OmniMontel 6 років тому

      Darko Sola the increase of 2 core and 2 virtual core is compelling especially since you should get a decent amount of extra clock speed by staying with the same motherboard you loose a little bit especially off of xfr as it doesn't manage incoming power as well, but in general from what reviews have said it's not a significant amount.

    • @qiyuxuan9437
      @qiyuxuan9437 6 років тому

      Darko Sola What B350 board you are using, the main problems with B350MB is the VRM, if your board have the same kind of VRMs on the asus ROG B350 you should be fine.
