    For me it is Carnival. Few Imp differences left out, The side blinkers show the cameras in the dashboard, Have better HDA System, Second row removable (which you can't do in Sienna), The Tailgate doesn't have protection in sienna (so if somebody hits, the rare door would not open, The 3rd row doesn't stay in place down according to siennachat forums, Dated infotainment, Glorified Hubcaps, not alloys) on top of this 10K difference (1yr wait + 6 months wait for the 2nd Key fob) on the MSRP without even adding the Dealer markups where carnival and available everywhere now. this is even without counting the interest cost on that 10k or the port installed options which are very low cost, for lot of price. Both have Dual injection engines which eliminate the carbon buildup. For Uber or MPG focused only, then Definitely Sienna, for all others Carnival. As the fuel saving would not break even after 10yrs also. I love Toyota but in this case, Would go for Carnival.

    I'm figuring for me it makes little or no difference cost wise which one I buy. For the miles I drive in a year its going to cost me $500 a year more for gasoline in the Carnival. So with a $7000 difference in the price it will take 14 years to break even. In 14 years I'll be 90 years old. Chances are if I'm still alive, I won't be driving at that age and/or driving a lot less. I am assuming that both vehicles will last that long. Depreciation won't mean much to me then if I'm still here. As far as AWD goes, I don't need it because being retired I don't have to go anywhere when it snows. Besides the supermarket is only one mile from home. I don't see a problem. No AWD one less thing to maintain or repair. The weight of that V6 engine over the drive wheels should provide all the traction you need with Michelin Cross Climate tires.
    Carnival is the winner in my book. My only concern is reliability long term.

    • @RustyZipper
      @RustyZipper 7 місяців тому +1

      I agree 💯 But honestly how many miles will you put on it by the time you hang up the keys? Not enough for any new vehicle to become “unreliable.” I imagine you’re not driving the standard 12k miles a year assuming you’re retired and just occasionally running errands. For you I would recommend driving them both and buy whichever you prefer. I think it will make no difference financially, depreciating, reliability, etc.

    I own the Carnival SX in Flare Red. Your vehicle is interesting because it doesn't have the "dentist chairs" as I call them, which are standard on the SX Prestige. Those and the sunroof(s) are the main differences between SX and SXP. There are some other minor differences like heated steering wheel is only on SXP and full LED headlamps.
    Mine is a 2022 with 47k miles on it. It has been a great vehicle. I get closer to 30 MPG on the road. It has great "get up and go" whereas the Sienna barely gets out of its own way. Finally, you didn't mention the KIA warranty...5 yr 60k bumper to bumper and 10 yr 100k powertrain. Toyota doesn't come close to that.

    Carnival. Almost half again more cargo volume are you kidding ha that’s embarrassing for the sienna sorry. Traditional V6 and automatic vs hybrid and cvt. A warranty almost twice as long. 10 less miles per gallon but considering it’s over 10k less expensive, you will never make that money back in fuel savings in the sienna. Also Toyota really got lazy in the fact their infotainment screens are just slapped on the dash. This is coming from a 21 Corolla owner.

      I would like to see more videos on the proof that all-wheel drive is" huge ". I'm sure it helps in certain situations. One video I watched made a point that should you really be out in a bad snowstorm with your family? Does all-wheel drive only help you if you were stuck in the snow or does it help on ice?
      Since all-wheel drive vehicles will use more gas than front wheel drive? For the majority of time you are out. Are you benefiting from the all-wheel drive? Well I would like a vehicle that has it? In my shopping for a larger vehicle, I'm still on the fence as to if it's helpful in some situations or helpful in all situations compared to just front wheel drive with some traction control features? I've seen 4x4s in ditches so I don't know if it's a be-all end-all. I would like to see you more tests side by side with the same vehicle and same ride height on the same roads to really know how much better or-wheel drive is. There must be a reason Kia has held back putting it in when they have the systems in their other cars. The rumor is 2025 models. May offer at least all-wheel drive if not hybrid.

    I've driven a Sienna for the past 13 years so that was my first choice. Then, the pricing / availability realities hit. I live in a huge metropolitan area, yet there are only 3 Siennas available with a starting MSRP under $50,000. That means buyers have little leverage since someone else is waiting in the wings.
    I bought my Kia Carnival EX for just under $41,000 and the only add-ons were the premium paint color, floor mats & wheel locks. No market adjustments or forced "appearance / VIP" packages. I'm now a low-mileage driver living in the south so AWD and hybrid fuel savings aren't worth a large premium for me as they might be for others. Hopefully, I've made the right decision, but only time will tell.

    Hybrid comes with a price. Power. Sorry. For this size of a vehicle, I want adequate power. Sienna doesn't compare to the Carnival. The Sienna has dated technology. Look at the infotainment. It looks like it's from 2015. And you put it in reverse and look at the graphics. It looks like it's from 2010. Sienna has the AWD which is nice, but not necessary. I put snow tires on mine and it works so much better. Plus it'll stop better than the Sienna. Minivans are about comfort and storage. Tech is also big but not important to all. For me, the Carnival checks all the boxes. I"m paying $50K, I can afford the gas. What I can't afford is a lack of power when I need it.

      @JonMoralesLA 2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah but at what price? The Sienna is more expensive to begin with and then add on the dealer markups of $6-7k in my area, plus you can’t get one for at least 6 months. On the used market the Siennas I’m seeing look very beat up and the cheap plasticy feel of the interior really shows at 40k miles. It would take 7-10 years to recoup the extra cost of a Sienna vs a Carnival.
      Carnival interiors are really a world apart from the Sienna or Odyssey. Kia’s Highway Driving Assist is excellent and makes a big difference in daily, rush hour, freeway traffic or long commutes.
      The Carnival has a quieter cabin as well and performs better when fully loaded especially on any type of graded roads like driving in the mountains.
      The value proposition goes to the Carnival. Crazy because the Sienna MPG was supposed to make it the value proposition. But that’s not how it pans out in reality with it being so much more expensive.
      I also hate the Prius Prime look of the Sienna…truly awful.
      I would go with a Carnival or a Honda Pilot. The Oddysey is even more of an abomination in the looks dept than the Sienna. So much so that my wife refuses for us to get the Odyssey based on the looks alone. Honda needs a refresh.

    Another video said sienna you can't take the seat out due to airbag and other power features. Not that you can't take it out but that then you have to do a lot more work. If you want to remove the rails and fool the airbag sensor. With the carnival. Supposedly you can't remove the seats on the EX model for similar reasons. But the lower trim levels of the carnival can easily remove and replace seats.
    If the Kia was better stocked in the US I would definitely go with that. Yes, Toyota has reliability and testing as the carnival only came to the US in 2022. However, the Kia warranty is good and the starting price is less. 2025 may have some large changes for Kia of what they're offering so if you can hang on maybe it would even be a better value. It's hard to say if they will have to do the same thing. Other vehicles have done when they go hybrid and shrink the cargo space down. For example, the Chrysler Pacifica is great with their stow in the floor seats. But if you go hybrid you can't store the second row because they put the battery underneath that section. They have the second largest cargo with seats folded or removed to the Kia carnival, but they're pricing is high compared to their reliability score. Probably not fair to compare the carnival until people have used it long enough to know about reliability. For the person who mentioned that Kia has had issues with fires, not with the carnival. As far as I know. You can't base one vehicles defects on the entire brand.

It's very hard to find videos of people testing minivans in the snow comparing front wheel versus all-wheel drive. My neighborhood is always the last street to be plowed by the township. When it’s really bad, it could take a couple of days. In order for me to get to the main roads, i would need to drive about a mile. Yes, 4WD can still slide on ice. I’ve encountered many times where it’s harder to get out of a rut with only front wheel drive car. With a 4WD…I just plow right out. Nothing more than 6” of snow of course. Sometimes you just have to go to work during bad weather (not with the family).

    I saw another review of Sienna…a 2023…that revealed the wheels are chromed plastic. Doesn’t sound durable, at all. Also, there is essentially no back bumper on the Sienna, so back door more likely to be damaged.

    • @RustyZipper
      @RustyZipper 7 місяців тому

      I actually prefer the plastic hub cabs versus aluminum rims. My g/f has an ‘18 Rav 4 with the steel wheels and plastic hub cabs. It’s actually the best of both because the steel is very durable and easy to mount / dismount new tires without cosmetic damage. Here in NY the salt eats everything after a few years. It’s far cheaper and easier to replace just the plastic hub cabs when they get curbed or nasty looking.

    • @RustyZipper
      @RustyZipper 7 місяців тому

      As far as the back bumper pretty much any damage / accident nowadays will require an insurance claim. It’s all in order to reduce weight / costs, every freaking thing is brittle plastic underneath

    The Sienna will last forever, but MANNNNN does Toyota lag when it comes to technology. In a couple years, it'll look absolutely ancient. I also don't like that they really haven't done a ton with the body styling over the years. Yeah, there's more swoops on the side, but overall it still reminds me (too much) of the styling on my 2011. I like how Kia is much more aggressive with the technology and features like the dual moon/sun roofs. I feel really loyal to Toyota, because they've never steered me wrong, but I can see myself going to Kia or Hyundai next, just because the Toyota's feel dated. Also, the hybrid drive train kind of scares me. I really like the 'oomf' of the V6 I've got in my 2011, especially compared to our Odyssey, which has no 'oomph'.

      I agree, and that's why carnival, not the best name. By the way, name their vehicle and MPV not minivan. Multi-purpose vehicle is getting us back to where we need to be. And this reviewer keeps using the word boxy as a negative. That's a plus in my book. I'm looking for a vehicle to expand my balloon show but I'm not ready to do a transit van as I only want one vehicle. But I didn't want a soccer mom car because I won't be home hauling people and be taking the seats out. So this kind of rules out the sienna. Well, people have removed the seats and emulated the airbag. There's a whole process, especially if you're going to remove the rails. So if I did want to take people along it would be a pain to put the seats back in. I'd rather have Kia do something like the stow in the floor seats of the Pacifica but if I have to take seats out I would still go with the carnival as one would get 145 cubic feet and the sienna he shows. Seems like it loses headroom with the lower curved back and everything I've read is you don't gain 50 cubic feet of space Even if you do removethe seats.
      The next closest vehicle in cargo capacity is the Pacifica and the seats don't have to be hauled around. But the price of that vehicle is higher which is odd considering the reliability ratings are impressive and a lower factory warranty. So even Pacifica used seems higher priced than buying a carnival new. However, there is an issue of Kia supply in the Northeast in December 2023 which is making my decision harder or maybe some would say easier. But I definitely think the sienna looks like a soccer mom mobile and it's a shame that they shrunk it down after 2020.

I have an ‘11 Elantra that I bought brand new and it’s been a good car as long as the engine doesn’t blow up or it gets stolen. Otherwise I’d keep it. I will never purchase another Kia / Hyundai product again. You also have to factor in the price of fuel. Right now here in way upstate NY it’s at $2.87, which is the lowest I’ve seen in years but this summer was at $3.99 the whole time. I’ll never justify the extra cost because I don’t drive beyond average. But I don’t need to Justify, I’m 42 years old and completely debt free. The van still has plenty of pickup and although the paint is looking dull and marked from all the road time, when cleaned up, it still looks great.
