Thanks for the shout out, but you give me way to much credit! Definitely not full time like yourself. With that said, we have a saying for those out in my area. The struggle is real! It takes an independent soul to take the outdoor life on. You are definitely a person that conquers obstacles. Mad respect!
I give all of you who can sustain this lifestyle mad respect….. Rather you reach out for a little help or not. The Alaskan lifestyle is not for everyone. Be proud and keep doing what brings you all happiness.
You are amazing . 🇨🇦 I enjoy your videos .
I’m a seventy seven yo widow living on forty acres in the mid west. Have a fifteen year old Polaris 6x6 with a dump bed that gets be about anywhere getting my own wood. I use electric chain saws that are lighter for me to use. Sometimes I really don’t care for company for a long time and try to be as self sufficient as possible. have a very reliable handy man that is reasonable and actually shows up when needed which is not very often maybe once a month. I also use firewood to heat and keep over a weeks worth on the back porch that was so handy when we had the ice storm a few days ago. Take care out there!
Yeah, I’ve learned the hard way that seeing / talking to no one for months at a time. Is not as good I thought. I don’t need a lot. But I need some! Your amazing. No man is an island. And we’re only human. Bummer. Right?😉🤣 I’m friggn proud of you and I don’t even know you. Impressive 😊
I live solo and alone in Interior Alaska also. One thing I have learned in my 15 years of living this lifestyle is that we need others, we need community.
I have been living a remote life for over 40 years. The very 1st thing I do in the spring is get all my firewood in for the YEAR. My wood stove burns at least 8 months of the year,24/7. Without firewood I would not be able to make it. I get it 1st thing just in case through out the year I should break an arm or leg and wouldn't be able to get it. The smallest Of problems Put you dead in your tracks. Everybody can use a hand now and then for help that's normal. All we can do is,as much as possible by ourself. You're doing good give yourself a pat on the back.
Your living free. Now that's a life worth living!
Girl, you're doing what I wanted to do, many years ago. When I came out of high school, I wanted to go to Alaska to live. I had a lot of skills (thanks to my parents) and I probably would have done well. However, life had other ideas and that dream never was able to be realized. Now, being a senior senior, I know I couldnt do it. Too many health issues and a big family😂Although they are all adults with their own lives, I still wouldnt want to be 3000 or miles away. I enjoy your videos and watching you tackle life, your way. I live rural and as simple as I can. Raise most of my own food and just enjoy doing what I can. May God continue to bless your life.
You handle the cold sooooo well with no coat or gloves. I'm convinced you were a Polar Bear in a past life.
My dear, Dick Proenneke lived in a one-room cabin. You have a massive home and other structures. My best friend's husband was crazy about the Proenneke story. He was fascinated by his life. He walked many miles every day for hunting, picking berries, etc. Some of the food came to him by plane. You got this girl, hang in there. :-)
The outtakes are real for sure… birds and squirrel rat us out 😂 great video. Excellent editing.
Especially ravens and jays.
Kenai did really good in his boots!! Love the outtakes!!🤗
Love love love Kenai! ❤️🐾❤️
Living remote and solo is a frightening thought for most people. I do quite well with the lifestyle.
Thanks!
I would love to live in such a beautiful and remote place, but know that I don't have what it takes (health reasons) to manage a homestead....this is why you are a SHERO to me and many like me 💗. You have done so much at the cabin! Remodelling takes time, even when resources are readily available. Sending hugs and blessings to you and Kenai. BTW, you don't talk too much, your videos are balanced and spot on ✨✨✨Keep up the good work friend!
Same here. She's amazing.
If it is a ermine he is chasing Norwegian roof rats.
It doesn't matter where you go in this world, when you step into rural living, you're going to need to find creative ways to make yourself comfortable and to survive. It's part of the process, and just about anyone can do it. It's that process of using one's creativity to create a unique lifestyle that is "pure luxury" to me!
I love Copper River Basin, and, Copper River Red Salmon.
I'm grateful I can see what you're doing.
Fireweed, so wonderful and the Lights.
I personally love hearing you talk, explaining all your hopes and dreams. You do so much! Incredible. Val C 😊
Love the Kenai Klips.........what a fun pup you have. Looking forward to your next video already. Thank you for sharing.
I also love the old-fashioned way you do your dishes that’s what I do too. I use cotton hand towels to wash and linen towels to dry. I only use a scrubber broom stick material and do that with my cast-iron that Has to be done that way, but I don’t use sponges or any types of modern implements to clean or care for my house. Everything is very vintage and old. I love that you’re doing that. It’s also helping you environment..
I like your videos just the way they are. I like how you explain your lifestyle and the plans that you have. Everything takes time and planning and finances. Living off grid is hard work, especially in the winter months. It requires a lot of energy and time just to get the daily chores done and only then can the other non-essential things be attended to. It can be difficult for some to understand what it is truly like to live out this dream. Thank you for sharing your experiences...
Maybe wait to do your ceiling until your son comes out so that you'll have a "spotter".
If you have so many projects to do when family visits the time goes so fast and parents want the kids to look forward to visit not work
I love the look & smell of Cedar wood & helps keep moths away & supposedly mice. ??? Good choice Alone!
Hi, Alone! I’m super excited for the completion of your bathroom. I can wait though, as I know it takes time as a one woman team. I love your channel and especially love when you shoot your videos in the cabin. I’m older and wish UA-cam was a thing back in my day. Videos like yours may have changed many things about the vicinity of my life. Of course those of us who prefer seclusion and isolation know we cannot live life without asking for a helping hand at times. I completely understand your point of views. I can do months without human interaction and I’m ok with that. 😂 Please be mindful about how much you share with others. So what if they think you have another behind the camera, let them.
Have you ever thought about having a or some helping hands come out and stay on your property in exchange for hunting your land? Maybe you know someone who is a skilled carpenter (in the lower 48) and you can barter with them.
Your outtakes are comical….. love them.
Good luck you and Kenai stay safe..
Your a wonderful fur mommy!
You can use shingles for anti-slip and/or a finish with sand in it or rubber treads Alex says. If only we lived closer, Alex is one of the best carpenters.
Kenai is sooooooo happy with his garment(s).
That hose drain from your tub can water your garden in the summer❤
Hello from Arizona. It's been a bit since tuned in . My mom has passed away and now it will be HELLO FROM OREGON COAST. ITS NOT BEEN A GREAT past 6 months but am here now taking over mom's house.
Condolences on the passing of your
Mom. 🙏
Sorry about your loss. Hope the next 6 months are better than you can hope for. God bless you
So sorry for your loss 💞
Sometimes it's nice not to feel alone sometimes❤
Dick Prenoki was a legend . I love watching his videos from long ago . My Dad used to watch his documentary every time it came on TV . Would love to live like he did . The hunting and fishing and surviving was very educational . I also loved watching him feed the birds out of his hands . Love your videos also and can't wait to make it to Alaska to live my own adventure lifestyle . Stay Safe and Stay Warm up there in God's Country .
Ms. Alone, thank you so much for posting your video's. I live precariously through you. I'm from Ontario, Canada. When I was 21, my best friend and I moved to Vancouver Island. Best 2 years of my life! I know its not as remote as you by any means, but your channel has flooded me with so many memories, and regrets! Thank you so much for being your authentic self and letting us into your life! (hugs from Canada) Sorry, but not sorry LOL
You are a rock star my friend because you accomplish so much on your homestead. You are an inspiration. So excited to see Kenai has a coat and boots. Take care my friend and stay safe. 🥰💕🐶💖
There's also Mushers Secret paw protector - a wax you put on to protect dog's paws.
Hi Alone! Its always nice to know if you need to ask for help, you have people to lean on. Uugghh now a ermine in the house! Little stinker! Kenai looked so cute with his new orange coat and his boots on! So excited to see all your plans for your home come to life! Another great video, excited for the next one!
-Paula & Jason
Kenai seems very appreciative. You seem very adapted to Alaska and yes. We all require help at times. Don’t fret that. We’re not invincible.
Hi Alone, you're amazing. You don't talk to much. I love the projects. You will get them done in time.
You answered the one question I had about how you were going to drain the tub. We got 10 inches of snow here in Tennessee and we are trying to get back to normal. No mail for 2 weeks nor garbage pickup. Schools and most businesses closed. It was days before we could even get out of our driveways because the temperatures dropped down to zero and stayed very cold for at least a week. This was not normal for here. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
# We LIKE to HEAR the Squirrel's & Birds : )
Kenai is such a ham! 😆♥️
You truly inspire me, my friend! I had to laugh when you were beeping at the birds. I was putting up new feeders yesterday, and I was telling all the birds about them as I did it. 😂😂 The chickadees and nuthatches were watching me, and they jumped right on the new feeders as soon as I walked away. 😊 Kenai looks adorable in his boots! I bought some grippy boots for Ruger because he was slipping on our wood floors. He looked humiliated the first time he wore them, but he's used to them now. 😁
❤
I remember the documentary…excellent and fascinating!
I enjoyed his voice…the way he explained what he was doing, planning to do, etc. Such a great documentary ❤
Good Day miss Alone !!! A support network is vital in remote areas. Good to have people to associate with. The price of a cooper tub convinced my sister to go with a claw foot & it looks nice. I've been alone most of life. Never married. 1 daughter. I do have some friends here. Great video , waiting to see completion of bathroom & tub.
We can’t wait to see the countertops
You are so a mazing woman !!! I love-it all yours videos !!!
I believe that knowing your people is key, especially when you are off grid in cold weather and homesteading. Nothing wrong with asking for help. Dick’s documentation was excellent. I’d help you stack the wood, it’s a fave chore of mine.
Take good care of the ermine, they hunt mice. 👍 I sent you an e-mail with ideas for a copper watertank over the wood stove in your bathroom.
Not having a support network down where I was at definitely played a part in why I left. I'd met some of the neighbors but I didn't have time to build a friendly relationship with anyone there. It wasn't a big reason, but it was a reason for sure. That's also why I decided not to look for land down there, I'm going to stick to where I have friends already. 🙂
Hi Matt! It can definitely be hard to get things done when you're the only one around to do them. And making friends up here can sometimes be hard too. I have heard people say that they tend to not get close to people until they have been in the area for several years for fear that they will just leave due to not being able to handle it here. I think your decision is a wise one. 🤗
Everyone has a comfort zone, a lot need family and friends with constant interaction and nothing wrong with that, why the trucking community has such a large turn over because being in a truck 30-60-90 days out with 5 days home it gets harder and harder to get back out there after home time is up. I hung in for 16 years to pay off my home and property but once done I took a huge cut in pay to drive local but that was just fine as now I am home every night and weekends off 😊 I would rather be homeless than get back out to driving OTR, but that first year I lived in my semi and saved every dime to get my place as I put all my stuff in storage so that would be my only bill and cell phone, I got a puppy so when I was talking to myself I had 2 eyes looking at me … yeah I needed my sparky so I wouldn’t loose my mind being alone and in that truck 😂
Hello Alone and Kenai! Love his mew jacket and bootsies. He fid well with the shoes. Stay warm and safe!!
After your baths in your tub you could use that bath water to wash sheets & towels & blankets, coats... Bigger type laundry & use some to mop floors & then drain water from tub & then douse the clothes in tub with rinse water & then drain & leave clothes laying in tub for awhile to let more water keep dripping out.
LOL love the out-takes! No man -or woman- is an island, as the old saying goes. Dick Proenneke, though he travelled, had visitors, deliveries, etc. still managed to impress and influence many to take on his lifestyle. Hell always be an icon. I love your videos, Annie. 👍😎🇨🇦🐾🥇💫👌👒🛁🔥
Best wishes on getting your work completed. God bless you
Thanks for providing a bit more insight into 'Alone' in Alaska. BTW, your outtakes are great.
You are going you have friends that help which we all need at times to be honest you have pretty good be safe and wish the best you know what life is in the crazy lower 48 states so you got it 😀👍🍷🔥
Thank you for the video Alone.I enjoyed it as always.Im glad you got some dry fire wood.
It is nice to have a support network. Having to buy wood where you are, has to be expensive. Knowing what you know, do you wish you had bought a smaller cabin?
Good question John. When I built my home in 2019, I built a relatively small home in todays standard. I heat with firewood, and the house is well insulated. Glad I didnt listen to those saying I needed to build bigger. Firewood is crazy expensive here these days also. I always buy raw wood in the spring, its cheaper. I stack it in my garage (uninsulated, metal roof, gets hot in there in the summer) and let it dry over the summer, ready to be used after Christmas the same year.
Great video!
You're a brave. I respect your spirit.
You have such good reasoning for all the answers to peoples questions. Some of the questions are not appropriate or the people have no clue about living alone. I’m scared for you (I can’t stay alone, even with my Winchester and Glock), but you have security handled. Oh boy silly inappropriate question🤣🤣 I think the booties are great. I’ve read that after 10 min, dogs feet start to freeze. Our area was negative 35 below for a week ( Chicago) and my dog absolutely loved to play and run outside with his toys. Go figure. Stay warm and safe.
Well you don’t have many people around but your definitely not lacking animal friends or visitors I should say. Lol 😅. It’s always something. ❤. Take care Alone. I hope you have a great week. Wonder what friend the next few weeks will bring? 😬. Hopefully a nice sweet one that won’t cause trouble! ❤
I loved all your video, Kenai is very a sweet pup. The outtakes at the end, I think we could be kin, lol.
Proud of your videos
I have beautiful cedar bedroom furniture my mom bought it when she graduated high school she is 86
I feel like it's a good thing to acknowledge that in much of life we need one another. Not to say you can't survive on your own (not just you, everyone) but there might come a time when they need you... and that's ok. You're literally one of the most self sufficient humans I'm personally aware of. You put me to shame, every day.
I have grip tape on my stairs. It works great. I got it at the hardware store. It helped out my dog tremendously.
Not many get to live their dream. You're doing an amazing job! Thanks!
I used sandpaper-type grip tape on the vintage steep wooden stairs at my old cabin. I have big feet so it helped me quite a lot. Amazon probably sells it.
You should be able to ask the post office to hold your items and tell them you don’t make it in as often
I CC always look forward to your videos and truly admire your grit and determination! Can’t wait to see the bathroom. My childhood was much like you’re living now. We carried water from a well or spring , Mom collected rainwater for laundry, we did dishes the same way you do and carried wood or coal for heat. I have wonderful childhood memories!! Love hearing your future plans but my favorites are your cooking and building videos and I LOVE the kitchen counter you’ve built. Great job!
I was laughing at the outtakes again. They are always funny.🤣Kenai look's mighty handsome in his outdoor gear. Whenever you need help just ask for it, there's nothing wrong with that. Take care and God Bless you and Kenai always
Just wanted to say that your hair looks fantastic!
Dodge is so smart, it is beautiful were you live. Thank for showing us around. I just happened to run across your videos. I'm from arkansas ..
Howdy "A" glad to see u! Im gonna watch it NOW! 🤗 I'm thinking:) "I'll be baaack"
okeydokey? ✌😎
I hope that you are sponsored by Alaska because the information that you had given is worth its weight and goal for anyone who like myself is considering moving to Alaska I currently live in California. I thank you and I hope Alaska sponsors you for giving us such priceless information. Thank you.
LOL!! Need to teach Kenai how to stack wood!! Jk. I tell my boy he needs to go get a job. He just wags that tail and does the ‘pet me, pet me” thing. I had read that Praeneke had a brother who worked at Disney and that is where Disney’s nature films started and came from, so he had lots of outside contact. Not taking anything away from him, he still lived a very interesting and hard working life, just as you are doing.
Thank you. I enjoyed it!!
Have you considered using paint "sand" to coat the stair treads. It works especially well in stopping a slip on slick stairs. You simply purchase the sand in a hardware store and stir it into the paint. I did a wooden ramp entering a tool shed about five years ago and the sand is still stopping the slips.
Your hair looks super cute 👍
Make sure that what you stuff in those crevices doesn't rust. Copper mesh is a good alternative. A lot of wildlife removal services use copper mesh and then an expanding foam. The foam keeps animals from pulling the mesh out. The mesh keeps animals from chewing through the foam. They work together to keep pesties out.
Can't wait to see your projects underway ❤
Thankmyou for sharing your updates about projectsbat the cabin. So glad you are using 100% Tung Oil. Great choice. Get the foot back to 100%, before starting any work on projects. Wonderful things collected from the post office box. Looks like the cost and the botties were a great choice. Those outtakes are very cool. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia.
I've seen some Amish homes that heat their water by having the copper water tubes around their wood stoves or the firewall. The on demand propane 8s great for the summer when the wood stove isn't running or electric is once again out.
Always like watching your videos. Something I have noticed when you're out in this cold weather stacking wood...why can't we see your breath? Just wondering😊
Abe Lincoln said: Chop your own wood, you'll warm yourself twice.
Being in relative good health is a very important factor in residing alone in a remote region. 🤗. No claustrophobic issues in that cabin-!!!😉
I always wanted to live in Alaska I love hunting and fishing I was born in Kentucky and I've hunted in many states camped out west to
I love Salina Alsworth channel
As much as I have dreamt of living on my own away from others, the truth is, we are social creatures, and we need one another to make it through life.
I own a farm and have a lot of freedom and room to do most of what I want.
Like, streaking across the yard to my pool.
I'm happy with what I have.
Great stuff honey 👍😃✌️🇺🇸💪❤️!
Awww. Sweet Kenine. I just want too hug and kiss sweet face.
Have you considered buying a cheap/used saw mill set up? If you did that, and considered changing from cedar to whatever tree material is available on your property (or close by that you could source) you could then possibly find someone close enough by to help you with milling some wood to finish the inside of your cabin with and it would likely work out to be MUCH less expensive, and you'd also have better flexibility in accessing that material instead of trying to schedule someone to deliver massive amounts of it over long distances. You could have a helper work with you to handle the biggest logs to cut them down to more manageable sizes for you to work with when you are trying to work alone. I'm a contractor in New Hampshire myself, and I'd be happy to help you devise some kind of plan if you want to look further into an idea like that. You are doing great though no matter how you go about it! Impressive
You stay safe my friend,
you are doing great im jealous beautiful place
I was going to say red squirrel, they’re a pain at the camp in Michigan
Very impressive young lady!
Its okay to talk to the birds. Just dont act on what you think you heard from them.
You are a SuperWoman!
He’s being a normal dog .
I had an orange reflective jacket for my dog .
I want an A frame cabin. I believe that will prevent climbing to remove the snow on the roof.
I want the big fryer you show, I live off grid and heat my water on the stove. The one you have is not in the link. Thanks
Amen thats hard work by yourself
